Tecnologa) INTRODUCTION Computers are very useful for drawing and modifying plans. We are going to use a computer application called AUTOCAD for designing plans of an object. Autocad is a vector graphics program because it is based on lines, points, shapes and equations that are determined by coordinates which represent the elements of drawing. We can differentiate between vector graphics program and graphic design programs, the first is used for geometric objects and the second is used for photographs and coloured images. The most important characteristic of vector graphic programs is their PRECISION.

CREATING A DRAWING (FOLLOWING THE TEACHERS INTRUCTIONS) BASIC INSTRUCTIONS 1. Creating layers Using layers (2D surface that is positioned over another one), is important to organise our drawings. The first step is to identify the layers that we need and their characteristics (name, colour, width of line and type of line). Now we are going to create the following layers with our teacher: EDGE, AUXILIARY, DIMENSION,AXIS,TEXT Then select the layer we will work on

2. Using coordinates We have to locate the initial and final points of each segment using coordinates @x<degrees

3. Drawing lines Select the EDGE layer Drawing the first line: LINE ICON, COORDINATES @45<0 Drawing all the lines. If we make a mistake, we can MODIFY the drawing (select the line that you want to delete, and then click on the eraser icon)

4. Cut off option (HERRAMIENTA RECORTAR) We can remove or delete by cutting. We have to indicate the limits of each object and then cut off the surplus parts by clicking on them.

5. Dimensioning (BOTN DCHO BARRA HERRAMIENTAS DIBUJO o pull-down menu Y OPCIN ACOTAR )

Select dimensioning layer Now we have to indicate the type of dimension line we want to use (horizontal, vertical...) Finally, we have to include the dimensions by selecting the end points of the line and separating it from the drawing.

6. Create a visual effect : pattern and colour When the drawing is finished, we can colour the different surfaces to create a realistic visual effect. Select the DRAWING pull-down menu and click PATTERN OPTION

7. Writting text We can include notes and text by clicking the drawing menu and text option

DRAWING AN OBJECT- ACTIVITY 1 We are going to create a drawing using autocad. Look at the picture below:

How many layers do you need? (think of layers as individual workspace than you can hide from view, if you add a new layer, the layer is added to all the file, but if you add an object to a layer, it is added in the current layer ) Inserting a layer:

1. Click on the layer bottom. 2. Create a new Layer. 3. Type a name for the layer in the Name box. (eg. EDGE, DIMENSIONS...) 4. In the set layer. 5. Set line. 6. Click layer.
