ArcGIS License Manager REQUIRED UPDATE FOR 9.3

The copy protection mechanism for the ArcGIS Desktop 9.3 Concurrent Use product lines (including ArcGIS Desktop, ArcView (Concurrent Use) and ArcInfo Workstation 9.3) has been upgraded to use the FLEXnet Publisher v11.4 software. The ArcGIS 9.3 License Manager (FLEXnet Publisher v11.4) upgrade provides three major improvements: 1. A version of the FLEXlm license manager supported by Macrovision 2. NIM005965 - ArcGIS License Manager does not work on Windows Vista. 3. NIM003635 Remote Desktop connection breaks the License Manager. Important: We no longer use the FLEXlm v7.0 Licensing system used with previous versions of ArcGIS. You can continue to use your existing hardware key and license file with the new ArcGIS 9.3 License Manager. You will no longer be able to use your existing license server for the ArcGIS Desktop 9.3 Concurrent Use, ArcView 9.3 Concurrent Use, and ArcInfo Workstation 9.3 products. The License Manager that shipped with these products at 9.2 can only be used for 9.2, and prior 9.x, products. The license manager that ships with ArcGIS 9.3 can be used for 9.3 as well as for prior released 9.x products. When using the 9.3 LMTOOLS GUI, you will see a Borrowing tab. Note that license borrowing is not enabled for the ArcGIS 9.3 release. We plan to enable this feature for a post 9.3 release. New ArcGIS 9.x users Simply install the ArcGIS License Manager, available on the ArcGIS Desktop 9.3 Concurrent Use product media on any one of the supported platforms, and use it to serve licenses to the ArcGIS Desktop 9.3, ArcView 9.3 (Concurrent Use) and ArcInfo Workstation 9.3 products. Follow the Installing the License Manager topic below to install the updated license manager. Existing ArcGIS 9.x users Uninstall all previous versions of the ArcGIS 9x products, and the ArcGIS License Manager software. Then install the ArcGIS License Manager available on the ArcGIS 9.3 Concurrent Use media on any one of the supported platforms. Use the updated ArcGIS License Manager to serve licenses to ArcGIS Desktop 9.3 Concurrent Use, ArcView 9.3 Concurrent Use, and ArcInfo Workstation 9.3 products. Then follow the Installing the License Manager topic below to install the updated license manager. Migration: Using the old and new version of the ArcGIS License Manager simultaneously To avoid disrupting your production environment, you can setup the ArcGIS 9.3 License Manager on a second machine. This will allow your existing ArcGIS products to continue working as they currently are, and the ArcGIS 9.3 products to operate using the updated 9.3 license manager. For Windows machines, each license server will require its own hardware key and corresponding license file. For UNIX machines, only a new license file tied to the machine's hostid is required. Installing the License Manager Windows 1. Uninstall any previous versions of the ArcGIS License Manager and the Sentinel Protection Installer Hardware key drivers from Add/Remove Programs. 2. Save the license file received from ESRI Customer Service to your license server.

3. Plug in the USB or Parallel Port key. 4. Run the License Manager install from the DVD and follow the instructions. Please submit a request for your ArcGIS Desktop, or ArcInfo Workstation 9.3 license file and hardware key at service.esri.com, if needed. If you have any questions or issues concerning licensing; Domestic customers contact Technical Support at http://support.esri.com, or call 888377-4575 or 909-793-3774. International customers should contact their local ESRI distributor
