English Language 3 My Animal Friends World of Self, Family and Friends By the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to a) Listen to simple stories and fables and recall the names of animals in the story. b) Read and understand simple paragraph c) To speak about details about the animals. d) Construct simple sentences independently

Learning objectives :

1.7 Listen to and enjoy stories, fables and other tales of imagination and fantasy and predict outcomes, and draw conclusions at a level suited to the pupils ability. 2.5 Talk about the people, places and moral values of the stories heard,read and view ed in simplelanguage. 3.3. Read and understand phrases, sentences, paragraphs, and whole texts. 4.4 Construct simple and compound sentences with guidance and independently.

Background Knowledge : Previous knowledge on animals and the use of adjectives , verb, nouns(home) action and sound.

Learning Activities : Set induction (5 min) 1. Revise names of animals and describe characteristics of wild and tame animals according to the shown pictures. ( to categorize animals and recall previous knowledge) 2. Identify animals which can be pets. ( to identify and give reasons) 3. Describe the characteristics of animals by features, movements and sounds and allow pupils to guess and name the animals. (previous knowledge, intergration with the science subject)

Presentation (5 min) 1. The pupils are then to spell the names and pronounce the names with the correct sounds. ( to recall knowledge and stress on names by correct spelling and pronounciation) 2. Teacher talks about her pet. Teacher describes her pet. Teacher explains how playful her pet is. Teacher explains how important is her pet as a friend. Teacher says she loves her pet very much. (Scaffolding - Introduction and explanation about the role of a pet to human beings) 3. Pupils talk about their pets. And how they play with it. Basically using the same simple sentence formation as the teacher. (recall from listening skills and produce by speaking skills) Animals and home -enrichment 4. Pupils and teacher describe animals as pets and how useful they are to their masters. ( to conclude and confirm knowledge from the lesson) Practice (5 min) 1. Teacher provides reading materials for the pupils to read. 2. The reading materials are about animals as pets . Production (10) 1. Pupils are asked to choose an animal they want as a pet and give relative reasons for making their choice. 2. Pupils are to write a short passage about 30-40 words on their pets featuring external features, sound, actions, their home and all other relevant information in a time frame of 10 minutes. (using the given reading materials as a guide line)

3. Pupils are to draw their pet animal and label the body parts.

Closure (5min) 1. Pupils sing a song based on Old Mc Donald had a farm change lyric to Old McDonald had a pet 2. Teacher prepares the song and produces it on writing for pupils to sing according to the lyric.

PETS Maria lives in Taman Jati . She has many friends there. All of them have pets. Maria has a cat, Shalini has a dog,Siva has a rabbit.Daniel has a hamster and Mei Ling has parrots. A dog lives in a kennel, hamsters and parrots live in cages while rabbits and cats live in special baskets made for them. They love their pets very much.they often play with their pets.
