Reboot...
PC, laptops, tablets, smartphones and the like have all become part of our everyday existence. The majority of us use them daily and quite a few of us have come to rely on them. For many its to the point where its hard to function without them in our work and family life. Count me in that number. When my computer is acting up, Im at a loss.

So, what are we supposed to do when the computer we rely on starts acting up? What do you do when simple processes take forever and you get warning messages like The environment has become unstable or You are running low on memory? The technologically savvy can offer suggestions that help. They can encourage, First, try this, and if that doesnt work, then also try this. Still, I found that often the thing that helps the most is to simply reboot, that is, shut the computer down and turn it on again. Rebooting doesnt solve every problem, but it does allow your computer to start over new and fresh. . . at least for a while. Isnt it interesting that life is full of opportunities for each of us to reboot? God actually designed us to shut down through sleep at the end of the day so that we can start fresh in the morning. Even our calendar has periodic times for us to reboot and start fresh with new goals and new activities. New Years Eve is a reboot as we take inventory and make new resolutions. Another reboot seems to be Memorial Day or the end of the school year as we direct our attention away from school and to the great outdoors. And, right now weve reached another of our yearly reboots, Labor Day and the beginning of the school year. As we hit Labor Day, perhaps our environment has become unstable because in our attempt to take advantage of the summer months of Wisconsin we didnt get to church as much as we would

have normally. September is time to reboot, as we reassess our priorities and strive to listen to our Savior who has loved us, died for us, and wants to encourage and strengthen us. As we reboot and get into regular, weekly church attendance, Christ does stabilize the environment of our hearts and minds with His Word of peace. Whether summer or just life in general has kept you away from church for however long, its time for a reboot. Or, as we begin the new school year, maybe the error message youve been getting is low memory. Perhaps its that youve been struggling to understand what God has to say to your particular situation in life or what He has to say about the times in which we are living. Maybe our memory is low on what God says about His will for our lives, His love in Christ, why things happen the way they do, etc. Low memory may be the warning message were getting if the last Bible Class we were in was back in our confirmation instruction and its been more than a few years since then. When our memory is low in our relationship with God, then its time for a reboot. Its time to stop and start fresh with new priorities that give way to new schedules. Such a reboot involves getting more and more into Gods Word. We increase our Bible memory by reading Gods Word daily and getting into a Bible Class. In September at St. Marks we reboot our full offering of Bible Classes. So, reboot. Make every effort to join your fellow believers at church services. And, also make it a priority to read your Bible and attend one of our Bible Classes that are starting up again. Christ promises you that He will bless any such reboot that involves greater use of His Word. Christs servant to you, Pastor Jensen

Pebbles from the ROC - NPH Job - Bible Class

Page 3

Pebbles From the ROC... In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead. (James 2:17) First comes Gods grace and the Gospel (Good News) of Christ, our Savior, then faith and then actions or works. We keep this order in mind every day at THE ROC and every day we see how it works. As we proclaim Christ as the only Savior from sin, we rejoice as we see faith in action. How happy we were, for example as seventeen teens (a record) showed up to volunteer at Riverfest with serving soda and how eager they are to volunteer to help spread wood chips at Tivoli Island or cook and serve at Brat Frys. What a joy it is when every day teens from the past stop and share how much they appreciated THE ROC and what they heard and saw there. Thanks be to God for His grace which produces faith which willingly produces works to God be the glory. This year we celebrate ten years of Gods grace on THE ROC. Celebrate with us! Many hours of hard work were put in by so many at the ROC Rummage Sale which again raised close to $10,000 for THE ROC. We were overwhelmed by the many items donated and the many hours given. Some literally gave hundreds of volunteer hours. Thank you so much!

Christian Doctrine - Meals-on-Wheels - Messenger Christian Doctrine: Its Source ... What is the Bible? If you were to give a definition of the Scriptures, what would that be? The Bible is the verbally inspired Word of God. God the Holy Spirit delivered every syllable. Therefore, the Bible is unique: it is without error, and it keeps its promises. Scripture says so itself! Men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit (2 Peter 1:21). Scripture cannot be broken (John 10:35). No matter how many promises God has made, they are Yes in Christ (2 Corinthians 1:20). The Scriptures consist of 66 books, delineated by Jesus himself (Luke 24:44, Revelation 22:18-19). 39 of these books preceded Jesus earthly pilgrimmage; they are called the Old Testament, and were written in Hebrew (and a little Aramaic). 27 books narrate Jesus lifetime on earth and that of his apostles; this is the Greek New Testament. We commonly read these true words of God in translation and we can thank the Holy Spirit for the many faithful English translations available today. Now, if there is a single Bible,

Page 4

why are there so many divisions of Christianity? In part, its that other denominations dont allow Scripture to interpret Scripture. In contrast, the Lutheran Confessions are masterpieces of Bible interpretation. (These are also known as the Book of Concord; they are a series of nine documents written by our Lutheran forefathers five hundred years ago.) All of this leaves us thankful that the truths of Gods Holy Word have descended to us intact. This is especially true of the glorious news of our salvation through Jesus Christ.

St. Marks will be delivering meals the week of October 7-11. If you are willing to help, please call Yvonne at 920-261-8544. Thank you!

The Work of Our Pastors & Others: Baptisms at Saint Marks?

Spanish Outreach... Early estimates have twenty of our Mexican families sending students to St. Marks School. Thats all but one of those with children of suitable age! Continued interest in our fine school has led to a flurry of classes for families. Pastor Walther will likely be instructing three or four families soon. Three of our seventh grade students have finished an extensive summertime pre-communion course. Pastor Dale is helping another to complete it individually. These young gentlemen will, receive Holy Communion for the first time on September 15th. Juana Pineda, herself a graduate of our school, brought three children to be baptized on August 24th. Praise be to the Triune God! Worship attendance has been quite good over the summer. We now close the consideration of Hebrews, James, and Jude. September brings us to the first chapters of Genesis. If youd like the joy of supporting the work youve read about in the previous paragraphs, please consider placing an offering into the box for Spanish Language ministry on your offering envelopes.
