Honeywell, Yokogawa, ABB critical for smooth running of the plant as well as Emergency Shutdown Systems like PLC (Programmable Logic Controllers) critical for safety of the plant. The maintenance of these systems requires detailed knowledge of the software as well as hardware parts and ensuring full functionality and availability is essential. Nature of jobs for maintenance of these control systems are detailed as below: 1. Checking healthiness of power supply to the processors, I/O cards, marshalling cabinets, communication modules, network switches etc. 2. Checking healthiness of the I/O cards for any error/ failure and ensuring replacement of the same. 3. Checking healthiness of input/output barriers, trip amplifiers, relays, patch cards, signal processors, Cabinet Cooling-fans, Taking of backups of application software/project etc. 4. Modification of logic as and when required for these systems. 5. Assisting in Annual Maintenance Contract Jobs (AMC) with the vendor.

04 of 07 c) Instrument workshop: Nature of jobs at instrument workshop is detailed as follows: 1. Maintaining a schedule for preventive maintenance of all the critical instruments, approximately 1000 nos. 2. Overhauling and repair of control valves, shutdown valves, by checking all the parts and accessories and replacement of any parts if found damaged. 3. Testing of instrument at the workshop before actual installation in the field to ensure proper functioning. 4. Pressure testing of high pressure instruments, leak test of control/ Shutdown valves. 5. Report generation, like instrument failure report, history report, calibration report, inventory report etc.

06 of 07 V. MAJOR CONTRIBUTIONS: 1. Installation of no-play coupling in 15 Pressure Swing Adsorber (PSA) high cycle valves online without OEM vendor assistance. Identification and calibration of PSA equalization valves for smooth functioning of the unit. It has improved the overall performance of the Hydrogen Generation Unit of the Refinery and all the interlock logics have been taken in line as the purge gas fluctuation has minimized. Total savings has amounted to INR 1, 89, 80, 000/- per annum. Detailed report attached as Annexure-I Working along with Sri P K Dev ( Senior Engineering Assistant) in a two member team, ensured calibration and commissioning of all 77 displacer type Level Transmitters in MSQU project, within limited time frame, timely installation of which was a major step in the successful project completion. Innovative modification for over temperature safety tripping scheme for four numbers compressors at Wax Hydro finishing Unit (WHFU) at DR by replacing 12 numbers Temperature Switches with combinations of Smart Transmitters and Trip Amplifiers to ensure reliability and trouble free plant operation. Above modification also provided for continuous monitoring and history trending of temperature value in DCS for analysis which was not possible with switches. Innovative modification in WHFU startup override switches for four interlocks by providing alternate hardware key switch arrangement in addition to earlier soft communication scheme. Above modification ensured availability of scheme (which is critical for unit startup and emergency handling) even in case of soft communication failure between plant DCS and safety PLC. Provided for control and monitoring of tempered water vessel at WHFU by installing new Level Transmitter using existing level gauge stand pipe and hooking up the same with one number redundant control valve which was installed but not in use. Above scheme ensured stable control of tempered water vessel level, which is critical for plant operation. Carried out replacement of unreliable float-tape level measurement with latest Radar Level Technology at SDU Glycol Tank. New technology has been observed to be operating without any trouble since its installation in April2011. Provided for alternate fluid path for liquid wax to SDU Filter VAT level transmitter impulse line, bypassing existing path through Rotameter, which was not successful due to high viscosity and congealing nature of Wax. Further, he also suggested and provided for external steam tracing along the fluid path which enhanced the fluidity and ensured free flow of liquid wax. Thermocouple modification at SDU (Solvent De-waxing Unit) compressor in 2007 to eliminate the error arising out of compressor vibration, thus ensuring the measurement of exact temperature by innovative scheme. Installation of needle valve in SDU PSV ( Pressure Safety Valve) for proper isolation of the PSV, provision for which was not provided in the original design, hence ensuring safety while attending these instruments.
