Letter of Motivation: Prerna Desai

4G LTE, Cloud Computing, Downlink speeds up to 50 Mbps with DC-HSDPA, 3 D in your living room, Streaming Multimedia, Ipad, Facetime, Wireless Motion Sensor in 3D... the wireless mobile communications area couldnt get any more exciting than what it is at present or could it ? Research Analysts rightly predict that the world tomorrow belongs to Information technology and I want to be a part of it. My specific goal in life is to acquire a doctorate in information technology within the next 6-7 years. Considering that Career opportunities include research and development of technical systems, this program is an important milestone in my quest for a doctorate degree. Academics have always been a strong point in my life. Having excelled throughout my academic life I graduated with my Bachelors degree in Electrical engineering with distinction. On graduation, I worked in Wipro as a software engineer on mainframes for Lucent Technologies AG Communication Systems after receiving a 3 month on the job training in Phoenix, America. I then worked in a research group on Intelligent Wireless Networks for Huawei Technologies through Future software. After a stringent technical interview, I was recruited by Philips Software India for their Mobile Communications Division. I underwent a 6 months rigorous training program in the Philips Excellence Centre, Le Mans, France. I worked on a SMS concatenation development feature in the Service Provider Module which has been defined and incorporated into the ETSI GSM 03.40 specification. The project involved intensive reading and understanding of the GSM standards, preparing project specifications, coding, testing, integration and then maintenance support by providing correction patches on raised errors. I was also involved in a research project on UMTS for Hewlett Packard in Espoo, Finland through Trigyn technologies. Having been bitten by the Entrepreneur bug, I took over my family business, Supreme Technologies, a power solutions provider and a registered dealership for Cummins, India and was able to successfully head a business expansion. I then took a break for a few years from my career to raise a child here in Germany, but I never lost sight of my end goal which was to study further in my field of interest. I am an intuitive and imaginative problem solver with a solid foundation in analytical processes, teamwork, and problem-solving skills. I believe that my work experience has afforded me with a sound basis for further research studies. I have kept myself abreast with all the latest developments in the mobile and wireless telecommunications areas by continuously reading whitepapers and journals online. I also regularly view relevant university online webcasts and webinars as well as read open courseware from reputed universities like MIT and Stanford. I am drawn to the CME masters program because of the school's recognition of the central importance of learning management skills along with technical as well as practical expertise. I am profoundly influenced and impressed by the program

because of feedback from alumni on the university website and the fact that CME has been awarded by DAAD as one of the best International Master Programs in Germany. Having lived in Germany from the past seven years, I hope to serve as a bridge between the new international students at the campus and the university and help them get accustomed to the different environment here. I look forward to being a part of this accredited program and hope to contribute to the school's strong international alumni network.
