P19.10 Assessment of the Philippines renewable energy resources to mitigate and adapt global climate change Carlos Miniano Pascual(1), PM Pasion(1), I Acebedo(2), F Yadao(2), N Aguinaldo(2), E Pascual(2 (1) Mariano Marcos State University, Department of Agricultural Engineering, Batac, The Philippines (2) Affiliated Nonconventional Energy Center (ANEC) Accurate renewable energy (RE) such as solar, hydro, wind and biomass resources data are important to assess resources to mitigate global climate change and for the proper sizing and life cycle cost analysis of RE systems technologies. Knowledge of the spatial distribution of the RE resources allow for more cost effective design and operation of RE systems for meeting requirements for RE systems. The goal of this task is to develop RE resource assessment for the Philippines that incorporates and builds upon current understanding of the spatial distribution of the resource using 1-km resolution Global Map, Philippines constructed using data from the Digital Chart of the world (DCW), GTOPO3O elevation data, and International Steering Committee on Global Map (ISCGM) database. A graphic user interface visual programming linked with ArcView GIS, mobile mapping systems architecture, interface with long-range alternatives planning system software, other georeferenced energy resources will be presented. Efforts to create a cadre of expertise on geoinformatics professionals and students, conduct of advance collaborative research projects, symposia, and partnerships with local and international and inter-agency collaboration in the Philippines with ISCGM and others for productivity, sharing of resources, expertise and excellence in space technology will also be discussed. This assessment provides data that researchers, planners, developers and investors can use to help establish successful business activity RE technologies that can be adapted to mitigate climate change in the Philippines. The use of geographic information system (GIS) and global positioning system (GPS), satellite remote sensing (SRS) and internet mapping on RE sources and systems, as well as other geographic features of Global Map database are emerging dynamic decision support system to share statistical data, information and knowledge among stakeholders on geographic areas and related RE policy issues which could be shared in the world wide web. The combined use of SRS, GIS, and GPS with graphic user programming language has proven to be a very valuable and indispensable geoinformatics tools for gathering, organizing, easy retrieval and storing geo-referenced data for subsequent analyses and retrieval. Case studies are presented to demonstrate the use of such Global Map DSS.
