In the whole process of completing the coursework on Technology in Teaching and Learning (EDU 3105), I have gained various of knowledge and experiences in producing a video clip and the web-based learning package. In this EDU 3105 coursework, we are required to publishing a web-based learning package. The web-based learning package is produced based on a chosen theme and the topic selected must be within the syllabus of English taught in Malaysian primary school. In addition, we are also required to produce a video based on the selected theme. Upon received this coursework, it is quite tough for me. This is because I am not the type of person whom has their own blog or web posting. I only get use to social networks that have a lot of users such as Facebook, Hotmail, and Youtube. Besides that, I am also lacking in experiences in producing video as I remembered I had only manage to produce video by using still pictures but not for motion pictures. Thus, this coursework really do help and prepare us, as a teacher trainee to deal the high-tech world today and also to be able to fulfil the needs of the children nowadays. As a first step to start my web-based learning package, I went to the library to search for English textbook. This is because the theme of the web-based learning package is related to the subject that we were going to teach. In the end, I have selected Year 1 English textbook which have the topic of Unit 13: I see colours that I considered as a suitable topic for me to use it in my web-based learning package. This is because mostly young learners are attracted and interested to colours as the world is coloured by various of colours such as red, yellow, blue, and etc. In along the process of producing my own web-based learning package, I have the opportunity to get exposed with new software such as Kompozer, Core FTP Lite, iSpring Free, and Hot Potatoes. Those new software make the production of my web-based learning package become easier. Before starting my web-based learning package, I must search for the suitable template for my webpage and there are many free templates available in the internet. After that, I used Kompozer to add, change or edit my selected template into my desire webpage.

Furthermore, as stated earlier, a video with a time frame of three to four minutes should be produce based on the theme selected. Before starting to shot my own video, I must plan carefully on the plot of the video. It is to keep things organise and runs smoothly. The theme of my video is colours and I planned to introduce colours in a meaningful way by adding in some hand-on activity such as Japanese art of paper folding, origami. Origami gives me an extra idea on my web-based learning package where I could add-on the topic of Unit 6: Pets World for Year 3s learners. However, I did not own a camera to do the recording. Thus, I asked help from my classmate, Chai Xiao Ling to help me do the recording. Recording is the easy part, but not for editing it. Editing the video takes lots of time and patience. In video editing, my friend highly recommended me to use Sony Vegas Pro 11.0 and Corel Ulead Video Studio 11 instead of Video Pad. This is because both of the video editing software is more users friendly. The software provides a number of plug-ins that enables me easily to add-in screen text, transition, and even control the soundtrack added to the video. After I have finished editing it, I render my project into Windows Media Video (WMV) file which compatible with most of the video drivers found in computer and web-based video drivers. My video entitles, Crane Origami with time frame of 4.30 minutes which is 30 seconds exceed from the time frame given. Due to the slow internet connections provided by broadband, my friends and I had decided to went to Blackball Dessert Caf that provides fast WiFi network connections to upload our video to Youtube. The reason for uploading the video to Youtube is due to the embed code needed to inserted it into the web-based learning package. As for the e-Learning page, we are required to provide some exercises by using Hot Potatoes (HotPots). HotPots is an incredible software in creating your own exercises. Variable of exercises such as crossword, matching exercise, rearranging words, and etc can be done easily. Previously, the exercises made to conduct microteaching are by using Microsoft Office Word or PowerPoint which make it boring. In my web-based learning package, I have provided three exercises for my users which are two exercises in the topic Colours and an exercise on Animals.

In the process of making multiple choice exercises using HotPots, I have encounter some problem where my questions struck on question number one only and unable to proceed to the next questions. To solve this problem, I had asked help from my friends. However, they were unable to solve my problem, so I had asked help from my lecturer, Miss Sumitra Kan Fong Kuen for her guidance to solve my problem. Miss Kan patiently listening to my problem and suggested few solutions for my problem, but my problem remains the same. According to Miss Kan, my HotPots is unable to generate a complete multiple choice questions and the problem came from my laptop itself, therefore, she suggested me to use my friends laptop to create my multiple choice questions. Lastly the problem is solved. In completing my web-based learning package, I used up a lot of time in editing and trying to publishing my webpage to the internet. Editing really testing my patience as I have to sit for hours in front of laptop to edit my webpage. Moreover, I am always trying to adding new things such as animated words and falling objects into my webpage. On the other hand, looking at the bright side, as a future teacher, patience is what I needed when I am started to teach in the classroom and we must apply education technology in implement our lesson to make the lesson more meaningful. Besides that, we must always equip ourselves with knowledge. Moreover, in order to make my webpage more interesting, I have added falling objects from http://www.glitter-graphics.com/ in my index and about me page. The addition of the html codes for the falling objects in the webpage was troublesome to me because it unable I to edit my upper menu bar. Failing is not an option as it reminds me in a quote by the famous inventor, Thomas A. Edison, who stated I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work. Thus, I have to redo everything all over again and I learnt that the html codes for the falling objects only to be add-in in the last step. Furthermore, I found out that inserting large amount of still and animated pictures make the loading of my webpage becoming slow. Therefore, I overcome the slow loading of webpage by compressing the still pictures by using Microsoft Office Picture Manage and reduce the use of animated pictures. In this way, my webpage can load faster than before.

In my opinion, this coursework give exposure to us, teacher trainees, to education technology (EdTech) and give an insight on how to create your own webpage. Nowadays, teaching is not limited just on textbooks or exercise books but it must be blend-in technology to make learning process a fun and interesting way. Even though this coursework is tough and time consuming, but at the same time, I gained a lot of new knowledge and experiences that will be useful for me in the world of teaching. In a conclusion, as a teacher, we must practice lifelong learning to equip ourselves with knowledge and keep in touch with the change of the world.
