Peningkatan Kemajuan Profesional (PKP) Pernyataan Masalah (Problem Statement): I have been in the front line of teaching Chemistry for 21 years. For different topics in Chemistry, I use different approaches. I have tried many strategies (mastery, guided-inquiry, discovery learning, collaboration, small group activities) in the teaching & learning of Chemistry for my students with the use of various types of teaching aids like transparency, TV Pendidikan, use of Interactive CD-ROM and CDC Teaching Courseware, searching of resources from Internet. Students were given opportunities to conduct experiment for investigations and learn about experimental procedures and skills in handling apparatus. I also give them opportunities to construct their own knowledge after I have learnt about Constructivist Learning Environments; however I find that students are not so ready in this type of approach. Most of my students (from rural schools) are the average and the below average group as the higher achievers have been selected to go to residential school or premier schools. Generally they have weak foundations in science, and not so motivated, and they need a lot of guidance in learning. With the transformation in the Science Curriculum and efforts from Ministry of Education to promote the use ICT in the teaching and learning, we are still far from the target in the implementation of ICT in the classrooms. The Ministry of Education have spent billions of on providing hardware, software and training of teachers. The problem lies with the lack of knowledge on ICT among teachers and ways to integrate ICT in the teaching and learning. Only a small number of the teachers were fortunate to attain ICT courses conducted by the various divisions (BTP, BPG, JPN) and collaboration with others (BPPT, Telekom Smart Schools). Thus it is important for the trained teachers to share their new gained knowledge when they return to their respective schools. Inhouse training should be conducted with the collaboration from the school resource centre and teachers trained in ICT and educational technologies. Objektif (Objective): 1. Plan in-house training for the teachers with the collaboration from the school resource centre and teachers trained in ICT and educational technologies. 2. As the coordinator of school resource centre, plan activities for the students through extra-mural activities, e.g. Computer club, Science and Mathematics Society. 3. With the training received, to lead by example, I try to inculcate whatever I have learned in this course and implement in my class. I also like to share my knowledge (preparation of teaching aids, lesson plan, technical aspects on conducting lesson in the computer laboratory) with my fellow colleagues. 4. To encourage students to explore the Internet for resources, prepare assignments with the use of MS Word (for reports), MS PowerPoint (for presentation), and MS Excel for chart and table). 5. For professional improvement, I hope to attend more courses on ICT that incorporates multimedia, animation and 3-D such as creating video and flash to further enhance my knowledge to prepare teaching aids.

Internet CDs from MOE / BTP / CDC 1. I hope to share knowledge with all chemistry teachers on how to integrate ICT skills and how to use available resources and integrate them into their teaching plans through inhouse training. I will select suitable topic in the syllabus and conduct lessons integrated with ICT. I will encourage students on the use of ICT in their reports and projects work (e.g. assignment as in PEKA).

1. To give teachers that have low literacy in computer skills an insight into how to use ICT in their lesson plans, inhouse training / plan courses on basic computer literacy MS Word, MS PowerPoint and MS Excel, Internet Access. 2. The school resource centre provides the literacy support and facilities for the teachers to access and get technical assistance. 3. With the collaboration of Senior Assistant of CoCurriculum, organise competitions among students (extra-mural activities, e.g. between clubs or societies) to prepare project using ICT format to further instil the interest of ICT among students. 4. To ensure all related ICT resources and facilities are well maintained.

1. Teachers that have low literacy in computer skills will be able to use MS Word, MS Excel and MS Power Point in their T&L preparation. 2. Teachers that have low literacy in computer skills will be able to surf the Internet and use search engine like metacrawler, google, yahoo to search for T&L materials. 3. Teachers can prepare teaching aids with ICT tools and use it in their classroom. 4. All teachers and pupils are savvy about the use of ICT in learning and teaching. 5. Students prepare their assignments and project report (using ICT tools) and teachers evaluate these products digitally. 6. Students take part in the various competitions that applied the use of ICT.
