ARCHAEOLOGY, SCIENCE, AND "THE FLOOD"

DOES ARCHAEOLOGY AND SCIENCE SUPPORT THE FLOOD STORY ?

"......And Jehovah saw that the wickedness of Man was great on the earth, and every imagination of the thoughts of his heart only evil continually. And Jehovah repented (felt sorry) that he had made Man on the earth, and it grieved him in his heart. And Jehovah said, 'I will destroy Man, whom I have created, from the earth .......But Noah found favour in the eyes of Jehovah." (Genesis 6:4-8)(ASV)-BibleGateway "As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man." (Matthew 24:37,38) (NIV) -BibleGateway "All these events happened to them as examples for us. They were written down to warn us, who live at the time

when this age is drawing to a close. (1Corinthians 10:11)(NLT)-BibleGateway "The Arrival of the Son of Man will take place in times like Noah's. Before the great flood everyone was carrying on as usual, having a good time right up to the day Noah boarded the ark. They knew nothing-until the flood hit and swept everything away. "The Son of Man's Arrival will be like that" (Matthew 24:37-39)(MSG)-BibleGateway

What does science say about the flood ?

"We have 330 million cubic miles of water on our planet. At the present time, there is 70 billion gallons of water for every person alive. If the earth's surface was absolutely level, everything would be covered by 8,800 feet of water." -- Book (The Effects of the Flood) p.22. "This is the position, held by many thoughtful scientists, that a great water catastrophe occurred at some earlier time, which devastated the earth and produced our present geologic, geographic, and climatic conditions." -- Book (The Effects of the Flood) p. 14. "Fossil-bearing rocks, from all strata levels, reveal that a worldwide warm climate once existed everywhere on the planet, even in what is now Arctic and Antarctic areas. For example, because of widespread coal and petrified wood deposits, we know the Antarctic once had an abundance of vegetation and large trees. It also had palm trees and other tropical plant life." -- Book (The Effects of the Flood) pp. 26, 28. "There is no doubt that a remarkable change in climate occurred, resulting in our present cold climates. It was probably caused by the loss of water vapor in the earth's atmosphere. Scientists estimate that a worldwide water-vapor blanket must have covered our planet in ancient times. This deflected the sun's rays, so the entire globe was evenly warmed. But, at the time of the Flood, water poured out of the skies and burst forth from the earth. As a result, the vapor cover was in a great measure lost and the underground watering system closed down." - - Book (The Effects of the Flood) p. 28. "Before the Flood there were probably only broad rivers, with possibly a few seas. The enormous concave ocean basins we now have were not needed...because of the immense amount of water on the earth's surface, it was necessary for the sea basins to sink and the continents to rise otherwise there would be no dry ground anywhere" -- Book (The Effects of the Flood) pp. 28-29. "Very high up in the theoretical column of rock strata we find the Mesozoic, which includes the Triassic, Jurassic, and Cretaceous. In these levels we find the dinosaurs. Apparently reptilian in nature, many of these

were gigantic creatures. They died as a result of the Flood...... they were suddenly destroyed all over the earth.... Scientist are puzzled why there is a dividing point in the sedimentary strata, below which are the dinosaurs and above it no dinosaurs. This line is referred to as the K / T boundary." "A provocative recent discovery may provide additional insight as to the cause of the disappearance of the dinosaurs. One major short-term effect was a rapid cooling after the Flood...their sudden disappearance from our planet cannot be explained." "As with many animals, the dinosaurs apparently gathered into groups in time of danger. The rising waters of the Flood finally overtook and buried them beneath water and sediment. Today, we find their bones in so-called "dinosaur graveyards." "The entombment of such vast numbers of these large creatures demands a terrible worldwide catastrophe. Tell those you meet that the dinosaurs are enough evidence of the Flood and another denial of evolution." "As the layer [cut out of a New Mexico hillside] was exposed, it revealed a most remarkable dinosaurian graveyard in which there were literally scores of skeletons, one on top of another and interlaced with one another. It would appear that some catastrophe had overtaken these dinosaurs, so that they all died together and were buried together." -- Edwin Colbert, Men and Dinosaurs (1968), p. 141. "In Wyoming, dinosaur bones were found "piled in like logs in a jam." In the Dinosaur National Monument in Utah and Colorado (the Morrison formation of the Jurassic), over 300 dinosaurs of many different types have been dug out." -- Edwin Colbert, The Age of Reptiles, p. 141. "Innumerable bones of many fine skeletons of dinosaurs and other associated reptiles have been quarried from these badlands, particularly in the 15-mile stretch of the river to the east of Steveville, a stretch that is a veritable dinosaurian graveyard." -- Edwin Colbert, The Age of Reptiles, p. 141.

Whether Science proves the existence of the Flood or not Christ indeed believed that it happened and taught people to that effect. In fact Christ likened his return to the days of Noah. Indeed he taught that as a world of mankind was destroyed by a flood, so would a world of mankind be destroyed by him, when he returns to the earth. He gives a warning to that effect 30

"Then, the Arrival of the Son of Man! It will fill the skies--no one will miss it. Unready people all over the world, outsiders to the splendor and power, will raise a huge lament as they watch the Son of Man blazing out of heaven. 37 "The Arrival of the Son of Man will take place in times like Noah's. 39 They knew nothing-until the flood hit and swept everything away. "The Son of Man's Arrival will be like that. (Matthew 24:30,37,39) (MSG) -BibleGateway
