CREATIVITY
Yearbook Club
I intend to take part in this club which has the main purpose of designing and creating the 2011-2012 school yearbook. I will be working in collaboration with the publication coordinator Mrs. Natasha Ntlhasinye and the yearbook team. This CAS activity will take place for the entire 2011-2012 academic year of Machabeng College in which I will be attending regular meetings every Thursdays during lunch for the one year period. As an active member of the yearbook team, I intend to be involved primarily in proof reading, editing and designing of the yearbook and through this, not only do I hope to learn how to deal with the different responsibilities that comes along with this activity, but I also hope to develop my skill of working as a team.

Photography
I plan on attending the photography club every Thursdays from 3PM to 4PM. This CAS activity will also take place for the entire 2011-2012 academic year of Machabeng College. In this club I will be effectively guided by Mr. Varun Khandare (who has 5 years experience in the field of Photography) as I take up the new skill of photography at a professional level. In detail, I will be using my own creativity and imagination to capture photos of aspects that I find interesting in and around the grounds of Machabeng College. Thereafter, I will keep a collection of these photographs and will hopefully keep a blog where I will post photographs on a monthly basis. Through this activity, I expect to increase my awareness of my own strengths in the field of photography at professional standards.

ACTION
Taekwondo
Taekwondo is a skill that I will be learning in which I will definitely be physically active. I intend to regularly attend Taekwondo lessons every Mondays from 4:30 PM to 5:30 PM for the whole of the 20112012 academic year of Machabeng College. I will be taught by the Taekwondo Master and at the end of my training with him, I hope to have learnt with enough competence many of the defense skills of Taekwondo. More so, I expect that the regular lessons of Taekwondo will help me remain fit. This CAS activity will be a new challenge for me as it is a skill that I have never indulged in previously, thus it will also teach me on how to successfully overcome my challenges as I fulfill my expectations at the end of this CAS activity.

Model UN
The Model UN is made up of a small group of intellectual IB students who aim to represent the actual UN organisation in the local community. Much like the actual UN organization, the Model UN holds meetings at a regular basis in which important world issues such as poverty and global warming are addressed and there are plenty of debates and discussions that are put into account during the meeting. I plan to be actively part of the Model UN by attending the meetings held by the Model UN organization and will take part in the many activities that the Model UN will organized such as debates and discussions as mentioned above. I aim to be a keen member of the Model UN for the entire academic year of Machabeng College 2011-2012 and during this period I hope to engage with issues of global importance which will help increase my awareness of what is happening on other parts of the world. Furthermore, I also hope that through the Model UN I will learn to handle more challenging roles in presentations and debates.

SERVICE
Queen II Hospital
Seeing as my future career is based on dealing with ill patients, I have decided to voluntarily help the local hospital in Maseru: Queen II hospital. I will visit the hospital on a monthly basis in which I will spend a minimum of 1 hour at the hospital whereby I will be aiding as well as attending to the patients in different wards in the hospital. Through this voluntary service I hope to develop my helping and caring nature and I also wish to observe, learn and understand the implications of working in a hospital as my future career of being a doctor is based on that. Moreover, I expect that my trips to the hospital will enable me to reflect on my experiences that I will have when in contact with the patients and staff of the hospital which I will then make a record of in a journal.

Assisting teachers in Maseru English Medium Preparatory School (M.E.M.P.S.)

This is a new activity that a group of IB1 students have initiated, of which I am a part of. This CAS activity involves us as IB1 students in helping the teachers in a nearby primary school: Maseru English Medium Preparatory School. To be precise, I will be assisting the students from grade 1 to 6 with their reading and writing skills and I will also actively attempt to motivate the children in their studies. This activity will take place every Fridays from 1PM to 2PM during the course of the 2011-2012 academic year of Machabeng College. Through this project, I aim to not only learn to work collaboratively with the students and the teachers, but I also hope to have an amazing learning experience from the children as well.
