The!Learning!Science!Research!Lab!(LSRL)!
Who are we? The central focus of the LSRL is to explore and innovate technologies designed to enhance interactive learning environments and ultimately improve student learning. What are we working on? ! measuring learner engagement and user experience with state-of-the-art physiological sensors ! conducting field evaluations of off-theshelf tutoring systems ! developing best-known-methods and software to manage and analyze large sets of sensory data ! creating learning applications for mobile platforms Who we work with? This research is conducted via collaborative partnerships with experts in data mining, computer science and informatics and is funded by the Office of Naval Research. We also collaborate with the British Consulate, NATO, and UCLA among others.

Intelligent!Tutor!Systems!Project!
Evaluate the effectiveness of three off-theshelf math-based intelligent tutoring systems. Working with: ! Mountain Pointe High School ! Mesa School District ! Phoenix Area Naval Recruits

Social!Media!Project!
Leverage the use of student technology experiences that afford a variety of advantages in increasing awareness and interest in computer science through social media. Focusing a computer science course module on social media represents an excellent opportunity to target girls and teens from lower income families and increase their participation in computer science.

MulAmedia!Learning!Project!
Investigate the role of social aspects of multimedia learning that may impact how much effort a learner is willing to exert during learning and ultimately enhance the amount or type of learning that occurs. Doing experiments to examine the conditions under which pedagogical agents enhance learning.

Learner!Experience!Project!
Explore ways of unobtrusively measuring learner or user experiences. We employ a range of technologies including affective sensors, EEG headsets, and eyetracking hardware. We are currently conducting studies that gather data as users interact with a variety of learning environments.

Mobile!Learning!Project!
Anticipate and explore the possibilities of emerging mobile learning technologies. Preparing educators for the next generation of mobile learning by identifying the affordances of cutting edge mobile devices and effective strategies for using these devices to enhance learning.

AecAve!State!RecogniAon!
ABE: An Agent-Based Software Architecture for a Multimodal Emotion Recognition Framework. Framework to gather and synchronize affective information coming from different sensors and generate data to support thirdparty systems integrating empathetic features.
