Value for the Week: Commitment We show commitment by completing tasks fully.
Book WeekWhat a great week it has been. Stu Duval started the week off on Monday. He was entertaining and very talented. Following his storytelling to the whole school, Stu spent time with the senior classes. These workshops focused on key ideas to use when planning and writing stories. Character and Costume day on Tuesday brought out some fabulous outfits. More pictures are on the website. All staff and students dressed as their favourite book characters and had to present to their classes and school. ICT SurveyThank you for the responses to the survey. If you have promised me your survey you still have time, the more comments and feedback, the better! I am talking to you Mr Poynter! I will share the general findings of the survey in a later newsletter. Fordell Cross Country was a success. Not only were we blessed with a beautiful day the effort and determination on display really made me proud. Our Value last week was Pride and doing our best it was pleasing to see the our students display this value. Parent Conferences are coming up next week, 17th and 18th September. Notices went out during the week. It is an excellent opportunity to hold a conversation about your child/s learning, celebrate successes and work towards next steps. Mathex was last night! What a great night for Fordell School. Congratulations to all the teams for their positive attitude and achievements. Well done Mr Reddish on leading this group of high achieving students. Book Exchange was a huge hit nearly 200 books were swapped! All sorts of pre-loved books were exchanged. It was a bit of a stampede but lovely to see students so fired up about books.
House CompetitionBig Book. Each house made a big book. Their books had to have a story and pictures. The judges are Room 3, so the book had to be engaging and interesting for them to read! Books will be laminated and placed in Room 3.
Three Things that Really Annoy Me (An unassisted writing sample by George Reddish) Many, many things in my life annoy me. In fact, I have hundreds that make me cringe. But the top three put me in a state of apoplexy, or make me want to find a club and start beating myself with it. As I said, there are hundreds of reasons I could strangle someone every time I see it happen, but here are the top three. Have you ever done something out in the public eye with a tons worth of adults around you? Well, I definitely have. And one thing I cannot stand is when an adult whom you dont even know tells you off. This makes me cringe. Half of the people who get at you are old, grumpy, fat and dont have their own kids to tell off so instead they get in a fit over something youve done. Secondly, I despise waiting in line for a chairlift, or anything else that is slow. Fat, sweaty, inexperienced men and women push you around. Does anybody want that to happen? Well, it gets worse. The closer you get to the front, the more impatient everyone gets. Imagine this youre casually waiting in the line, edging forward every few seconds and slowly pushing in through the gaps. Then an obese, stink-drenched oaf comes barging past, crushing anybody else in their way, gradually knocking everyone onto their backsides. Well, that is what my life is filled with. The last item that drives me to utter torment is slovenly table manners. Take this for example. The person opposite you at the dining table has a mouthful of custard and ice cream stuffed in their face. Then someone cracks a joke and the person opposite starts laughing. Spittle flies everywhere from his trap, including all over your food. Next round. Food disembarks their gob and lands exactly where you dont want it to go your face. Next you see brown slop swishing around in their pie hole and you get ready to get splattered again. As you can tell, I dont get annoyed over things that easily, but there are some things in this world that I could definitely live without.
We had our first Grandparents Day on Wednesday which was amazingly well attended. The children loved showing off the school. Thanks to all who helped.
The Mighty Writers from Room 3 Mars is a red planet. The Sun is red. Venus has a volcano. We cant live on Mars. By Niko Saturn is a very cold planet and I would take some socks and a hat and an ice block and some gloves and some slippers! By Andrew When I go to Mars I will take some food, some water, a lot of ice and lots of chocolate. I will take my space suit, a rocket, a banana, an orange, a tin of cookies, a lunch box and a drink bottle. By Coral Mercury is the smallest planet. The Sun is really close to it and it is very hot because it is near to the Sun. I dont want to go there because I would sizzle like a sausage. By Jaeella I finally got on Mars. It is hot and I have got sunblock.
Room Four have been working hard on their posters. Rebekah is busy cutting out some pictures of planet earth to go with her interesting facts. These projects have taken a bit of time with the students having to use research and presentation skills.
