White papers and academic reports share several similarities: Both white papers are text driven. Authors of white papers and academic reports present findings and evidences through the reports in order to promote an idea or principle. Both the white paper and the academic report are meant to be authoritative. The work should be able to face scrutiny and critic by its respective readers. Both the white paper and the academic report are expressions of ideas and principles to solve a certain question, query or ambiguity.
