QUESTION 2 a) There are several factors which can affect the cost effectiveness of either new or existing systems. Identify and explain TWO computer related factors and TWO external factors which can cause a deviation, either positive or negative, in the cost effectiveness of a system. When determining the priority for implementing any amendments to a system consideration must be given to a number of factors in addition to the amendments desirability to the user. Describe SIX factors which need to be considered. 8

QUESTION 4 a) An Insurance Company is 90% dependent on its Management Information System. In the case of system failure, a manual fall-back system is not possible. Describe and discuss the alternatives available for the company to exploit during a major system failure. Explain the importance of using encryption codes in the world of e-commerce, giving suitable examples. i) Describe the characteristics of a novice computer user. ii) Draw an example of an input screen to be used by a novice to capture his/her personal details for a bank loan application.

Read through the information below regarding ABC Exclusives and then identify and classify accordingly, the possible threats to the Information System of ABC Exclusives. ABC Exclusives The main building, which houses the entire computer network, is situated on the banks of the Monsoon river. ABC has numerous business sites for everyday operation. Personnel, working for them should undergo personality tests but these procedures are not always implemented. The surrounding countryside is very dry, but subject to some thunderstorms.
