How a Church Fails Without a

Viable Small Group Ministry by Floyd

1. Sitting in rows and looking at the backs of

people's heads, getting a monologue sermon - even
though it's a great sermon - is not going to grow a
Christian. (Even if they have perfect attendance). God
never planned for us to grow that way. He wanted us to
have interaction so that we would know and be
known.
2. No matter how enthused the new comer is, in six or
eight months he will disappear if he hasn't identified with
a smaller group: an adult cell group, a music group, an
athletic team, a parents' group or Bible study.
If he is not being cared for and caring for somebody else,
he's not going to be a vital part of the church for long.
3. People are going to be very frustrated if they are
not allowed to exercise their spiritual gifts. If it's only
a superstar pastor on the platform and all the lay person
has to do is warm the pew and pay the bills, he's not going
to be alive, vibrant. Serving people are happy people.
Small groups enable people to use their ministry gifts.
THE POWER of Relationships
Thoughts borrowed from Purpose Driven Church with minor additions

Relationships are the glue that holds a church together. Friendships are the key to retaining members.
More friendships a person has in a congregation, the less likely he or she is to become inactive or leave.
While some relationships will spontaneously develop, the friendship factor in assimilation is too crucial to leave to chance.
You can't just hope people will make friends in the church.
You must encourage it. You must plan for it. You must structure for it. You must facilitate it.
You must have a viable, active, caring, sincere and vision-filled Cell Groups all over!

Think relationally. Create as many opportunities as you can for people to meet and get to know each other.
CONSIDER THIS: The amount of time a person spends with other members at a single forty-eight-hour retreat is
greater than the time they will spend together on Sundays over a year. If you are serious in wanting to see relationships
develop quickly in your Cell Group, District Congregation and Church --- TAKE EVERYBODY ON A RETREAT
or a CAMPOUT!
Although retreats may happen only 1 to 2 times a year, the power of the WEEKLY Cell Meeting will surely encourage
and facilitate relationship building effectively!
