Introduction
Please take a few minutes to look through this Operating Guide so that you become familiar with your Audio Connection Box and how to control its operatation. It is recommended that your Audio Connection Box be used when the ignition is turned on and the engine is running. If it is used at other times, care needs to be taken to avoid draining the battery. This manual assumes that the Audio Connection Box is already installed in your vehicle. For assistance with installation please refer to the installation guide. Regarding the general use of the media player, related software like iTunes and your cars entertainment system please consult the related operating manuals. If you need any assistance in using this product, please contact your Renault dealer. The illustrations, technical information, data and descriptions contained in this publication, were correct at the time of going to print (June 2006). Introduction
Audio Connection Box supports all iPod generations correct at the time of print (June 2006) including the rd th 3 & 4 generation, iPod Photo, iPod mini, iPod nano and the Fifth Generation models. rd 3 generation iPods cannot be charged with the Audio Connection Box.

The compatibility of all USB devices is not guaranteed.

Using the original CD Changer

Is your iPod player up-to-date?
Before you start, please check your player Firmware, and make sure it is upgraded to the latest version available. For iPod firmware visit http://www.apple.com/support/ipod. Renault only guarantees correct Audio Connection Box functionality with the latest version of firmware. We recommend setting up playlists on the player for easier navigation of music with the car radio or steering wheel controls. To do so, please check the corresponding operating guide.

Devices and priorities selection


Audio Connection Box automatically detects the iPod and the USB memory stick when connected to the interface and selected as a source. When both iPod and memory stick are connected USB has priority. To select the iPod, disconnect the memory stick and AUX in. When both iPod and AUX IN are connected, AUX IN has priority.To select iPod, disconnect AUX IN. Warning, if the AUX IN extension remains connected, the iPod will remain paused. When both USB and AUX IN are connected, to use AUX IN, disconnect the USB memory stick.

Playback control
Select CD Changer as a source on the head unit to start playback of the selected source device. To do so, select the CD changer as a source by pressing the source button (A) on the radio headunit. Display shows then TRCD For commands please refer to the following table. Due to the different charactericteristic of the playback devices (players), there are slight differences in operation. See device specific sections for details.

Track number can range from 01-99 with 3 digits. Above, (i.e. 104) the first digit will be displayed for 1 second (1) and then replaced by the second and third digit permanently (04). Folder or Playlist number can range from 1-9 with 2 digits. At the numbers 10,20,30 (i.e. 30) the first digit (3) will be displayed for 1 second and then replaced by (0 or nothing) permanently. At the numbers i.e. 11,12,13 etc., only the second digit will be displayed (i.e. 14) it is 4. When the iPod or the USB stick is removed or ignition is switched off, actual playback position is saved. USB player can playback most of the popular file formats, like MP3, WAV, OGG and WMA.

* USB Mass Storage Class are devices that the PC can recognize as an external storage without using any special driver or application software. (Check with the device manufacturer that your USB device conforms to the USB mass storage class). # Unsupported formats must be converted to FAT16 or FAT32 Using an unsupported USB device can result in abnormal playback or display of the audio file. The type or condition of the USB device can also determine if it will operate correctly (even if you use a USB device conforming to the above specs)

iPod Operation
Connect the iPod to the Audio Connection Box via the docking cable (see index 4, page 24). Turn on the radio, and select CD Changer as the source. The iPod will rd start to play the previously played song. 3 or later generation iPods will display the Renault logo and a warning message for a few seconds (except iPod Shuffle). Deselecting the CD Changer source or switching off the radio will pause the iPod, it will then turn off automatically after few minutes. During playback the Track# data is transferred to the radio display, whilst the song information (Album, Artist, Track Name) and playback status appears on the iPod screen, surrounded by the iPod user interface header and footer. Do not operate or connect to the Audio Connection Box or devices while driving. The OK to Disconnect message indicates that you may disconnect the iPod at any time. When reconnecting the iPod to the interface, the radio display might show wrong information compared to the iPods. To resynchronize, press NEXT, followed by PREVIOUS on the radio (see index H&I, page 28) Warning : if the iPod battery is fully discharged, the Audio Connection Box will not be able to playback any tracks or charge the iPod battery. (Connect the iPod to its own charger).

AUX IN Operation
All track, play and CD# controls are inoperable, except Pause which will mute audio (while AUX IN connected device carries on playing).

Specification
x Normal playback is not guaranteed when a cable other than the USB compatible cable is used. Connecting a cable whose total length is longer than 1.5M can result in abnormal playback. When using a USB card reader, be sure to put a memory device into the reader before connecting it to the USB receiver. Normal operation and power supply are not guaranteed for some USB devices.

Troubleshooting
You cannot switch your radio to CD changer mode: 4. Check cables to make sure everything is tight. 5. Reset your iPod by first turning off, push and hold the Play button on the device. Press again the Play button for few seconds to turn on the iPod. 6. Consult with your installer or contact your local Renault support centre. You cannot control the iPod from the radio: 3. Make sure the firmware on your iPod is the most recent. For updates please visit www.apple.com/ipod. 4. Reset the iPod. On the click-wheel of the iPod, push and hold the centre button and the Menu buttons simultaneously. On the 3rd generation models, push and hold the Menu and Play/Pause buttons until iPod reboots. (Resetting will not erase your music, it will only restart the operating system). iPod does not turn on: 4. Verify that the iPods battery is not depleted. 5. Turn off both your car stereo, and the iPod before inserting the cable to the interface. Power on your radio and select the CD changer source. 6. When both iPod and AUX IN are connected, AUX IN has priority.To select iPod, disconnect AUX IN. Warning, if the AUX IN extension remains connected, the iPod will remain paused. iPod battery does not charge: 5. Check all connections. 6. Make sure that charge control function is not turned off (see Setup section). 7. Connect the iPod to a computer to see if it will charge from there. rd 8. 3 generation iPods cannot be charged by Audio Connection Box. iPod does not respond after disconnection: The radio may have been turned off when disconnecting. Wait 5-10 seconds or reset the iPod. iPod goes to iPod menu after connection: The iPod was not in play mode before connection. Start playing. Playlist cannot be selected: There is no playlist on the iPod or playlist is empty. Only 5 iPod playlist number can be displayed: The 6th or higher playlists can be selected from the iPod menu but the CD number can go only to 5 on the radio display. USB stops reading: 3. Remove USB. 4. Re-connect USB. USB does not read file: Check file is legal and not corrupt (this can be done on a computer). Interface does not read USB: Fit USB and wait for 1 minute. (some USB sticks take a long time to initialise). NO CD message shows on the radio display after USB connection: With iPod shuffle and slow USB devices the initalization can be much longer than usually.
