I know teachers who rely on them #ukedchat I do some focused marking with the child beside me. I explain my thinking, they get immediate feedback...But it takes lots of time #ukedchat @dailydenouement Spread out deadlines between classes and try to mark within 24-48 hours of submission. Stops mountains piling up #ukedchat #ukedchat also teacher mark deeper and less frequently, peer assess more often @Westylish #ukedchat we are trialling #edmondo with our yr 3 to 6 pupils @DameBradburys Effective feedback must be specific, simple, descriptive, & focused on the task. #ukedchat @simonwithey @jackieschneider #ukedchat Definitely, &inform planning, too. Technology is ideally placed to enable feedback from peers as well as outside school #ukedchat Does everyone get pupils to traffic light their work and set own targets on first drafts? #ukedchat @dailydenouement 3 weekly cycle. Interesting to see how they interpret my feedback! @dailydenouement The only summative assmnt shld be final exams of the GCSE/A level. Circulating to help #ukedchat @SteveThursbyMA @dailydenouement I agree comment first grade when comments acted upon #ukedchat I prefer to use the term feed forward as it implies that something needs to follow the marking #ukedchat #ukedchat RT @KasiaFKemp: @dailydenouement @ukedchat give examples of what you're looking for. The key to peer assessment is giving students the correct language and structure or else it becomes meaningless #ukedchat @dailydenouement put comments in the margin - makes students turn page and you see students reading comments. #ukedchat @TeacherTweaks @kevbartle #ukedchat I do this too. My feedback sometimes resembles this: "EBI: 2 & 8" @singhdasa: MT my son- messy, untidy, poor punctuation, but fantastic content ignored by measuring criteria#ukedchat @Andyphilipday I think many forget that it's about learning over time rather than within lessons. #ukedchat #ukedchat RT @KasiaFKemp: we use steps for success with must, should and could statements to aid independence and challenge. @dailydenouement #ukedchat Marking shows me gaps or misconceptions for groups/individuals. I always plan with those in mind .@dailydenouement @MrMPritchard I only grade end of unit assessments. I talk about grades with oral responses in lessons #ukedchat @dailydenouement Start by having clear goals or success criteria and focus all marking on that #ukedchat RT @toppsines: @Jivespin #ukedchat ooohhhh love it! @Andyphilipday absolutely. It turns into a tick box thing that you are made to do rather than essential for learning #ukedchat #ukedchat without accurate assessment of where children are, you can't plan lessons. Is grading work the biggest barrier to student improvement? See the results from my in-school research http://www.edutait.com/?p=590 #UKedchat @MrMPritchard @dailydenouement excellent idea get other students to do your marking and they learn at the same time. #ukedchat Feedback should be in the form of a Q, not an instruction.Ss not only HAVE to respond, but it asks for a better quality f response #UKedchat @Grevster73 agreed. There is a learning curve for everyone #ukedchat @Jivespin #ukedchat yes, I use marking ladders for writing, my Y2/3s might find mark schemes a little tricky! Put together in book to show progress #ukedchat @syded06 @dailydenouement #ukedchat - absolutely agree @dailydenouement have seen some fantastic work by @burdonsteve on feedback using tech - realy time savers! #ukedchat @rpd1972 @daviderogers - & to plan for effctve fdbck needs a deep awareness of 'progress criteria' in yr subject. @Andyphilipday @daviderogers #ukedchat Yes, very real need to know where chn should be and how to get them there. #ukedchat If lesson focus clear, learners highlight where they have demonstrated achievement; mark against detail then overview. @Andyphilipday @rpd1972 agree - subject knowledge and knowledge of your curriculum is vital #ukedchat @with_ict @dailydenouement #ukedchat I like this: focused marking on 1 aspect of criteria. Good for MFL (you could correct everything!) Does feedback / marking have a place for consideration for pupils in transition from primary to secondary? #UKEdchat Where is the burden? #ukedchat Love the idea of older chn marking younger chn's work. Wonder if it would work in primary... Y6 marking Y3 for example? Provide three things to improve and explain how. When work is resubmitted- only comment on the changes&provide three more targets #ukedchat #ukedchat don't forget #EducatingYorkshire @channel4 tonight at 09:00pm @rpd1972 That would be good, as it gives pupils a greater sense of 'writing for a purpose' #UKEdchat @MrMPritchard @dailydenouement agreed! A writing lesson where poor spelling is the comment is my pet hate! #ukedchat Ask for work sent electronically- mark in one colour redraft changes in a second colour #ukedchat @davidErogers @jmfcuk can see that- although for primary maths it is superb! #ukedchat Teaching Ss to celebrate each other's positives is more difficult than fault finding #ukedchat #ukedchat mark to a success criteria, allow children access throughout lesson of how to reach next level and mark to this @rpd1972 ...And also a great sense of responsibility for the Y6'ers to look out for things that they should be doing. #UKEdchat Great idea. @WhiteDebs @jmfcuk top point. That's about knowing your context and curriculum. #ukedchat How do we help students become more effective peer

assessors? I'm not sure I get it right. #ukedchat I haven't had a chance to sit down and relax once this week? School is hectic!! Anyone e,se feeling more pressure? #ukedchat #edchat #teach @ukedchat #ukedchat Yes, I think I feel some action research coming on! Would be valuable for both ages of pupil I think. RT @JamesJMatthews: #ukedchat In Jersey we now send books up from Y6 to their new secondary schools. Books are continued until half term. We should focus on developing Ss ability to ask provoking Qs as part of peer assessment #ukedchat #ukedchat if they haven't achieved what was wanted, marking tells the this and lessons should allow sufficient time to edit and try again! I keep my feedback kit in a big Lego box because we are building on progress #ukedchat @JamesJMatthews Is that quite simple/easy to manage? #UKEdchat @dailydenouement We are trialling literacy feedback stickers with key features of a good paragraph listed to identify www & ebi. #ukedchat .@dailydenouement practice, clarity of the success criteria and time. That makes the best peer assessors! #ukedchat So, in the last 10 minutes, any key ideas you'll take away from tonight's discussion? #ukedchat @marind_anim @pivotalpaul I often write a piece and get them to mark and assess me- creates a safe environment to destroy my work! #ukedchat @dailydenouement I think that is tough, as there are many also personal factors in play #UKEdchat Teaching Critical Thinking in Psychology http://bit.ly/1aWJYPz #psychat #psychedchat #psychology #criticalthinking #MSc #teaching #ukedchat RT @stephen_j_duffy:The weakest area in schools around #esafety remains staff training. I am definitely going to use the 6th form essays in folder & rewrite for revision technique suggested earlier #ukedchat @marksalts So that's what others think looking in - is that what we really want? Teaching as a trade rather than a profession? #ukedchat IDEA-OLOGY - introducing projective and psychometric tests http://bit.ly/1a7Esp5 #psyedchat #psychat #criticalthinking #ukedchat #teaching @dailydenouement #ukedchat Key idea for me... Definitely going to try marking between year groups! @dailydenouement #ukedchat by ensuring they understand the criteria that they are assessing against. RT @JamesJMatthews: #ukedchat We have a good internal post system! Y6 teachers post them off to respective schools during last week of term "@coachtonymee: @susanbanister been discussing peer reviewing on FA Advanced a Youth Award last few days." >definitely worthwhile #ukedchat The #UKEdchat survey results are being revealed tomorrow, exclusive to our e-bulletin subscribers. #ukedchat already planning yr 11 marking yr 10 next week. Great idea. Give 4 students marked work and 4 sets of feedback on strips of paper. Students have to work out which feedback matches the work. #ukedchat @dailydenouement: So, any key ideas you'll take away from tonight's discussion? < Yup. #ukedchat is great CPD. @dailydenouement They may fear that they're not awarding peer the right 'mark'. Encourage them to see it as 'kind, helpful advice' #ukedchat @mrpeel Are the pupils less likely to know each other? #UKEdchat @MissHorsfall I'm a big fan of this sort of thing and will start doing it more formally in future. Cheers.#ukedchat @ukedchat yes, that would be great. thoughts for 10s <-Love the idea @dailydenouement personal, specific & SMART. Me too, definitely going to try this too! @missumb If used in the right way they are amazing #ukedchat Pupil becomes the editor for another pupil for a written task before teacher marks. Editor must be confident work is good enough. #ukedchat Self evaluation on video- pair work- one films the other as an interview (teacher or student written Qs)&submits video 2be marked #ukedchat #ukedchat RT @murphiegirl: FiSH feedback is simple but very effective. We're coming to the end of tonight's #ukedchat but thanks so much for all your contributions. Hope it was useful! #ukedchat Really enjoyed tonight's discussion. Sharing across the key stages is such good CPD. @RachelOrr Could be adapted as "post-it " marking? #ukedchat Peer review approach, work not written on. Students writing test questions and answers for other students to show understanding of what they've learned. #ukedchat #ukedchat - just to clarify. I love my job. Most teachers I know work incredibly hard BUT we don't do enough to challenge sloppy & poor TBC I think so too. Lots to learn! RT @rpd1972: #ukedchat
