Prosperity Through Soil Care

Conventional cultivation can have devastating effects on
soil.

Hillsides are able to capture the rainwater avoiding run-off.

Chemical and natural feritlizers are absorbed and filtered through
the soil and to grass roots.

With traditional cultivation techniques, soil is often ploughed

several times to create a fine seed bed and control weeds.
This will expose soil particles to erosion from wind and
rain, destroy humus and result in severe breakdown of soil
structure.

ROOT
CAPPING
H 2O

Repeated passes by heavy tractors and equipment lead to soil

degeneration and to the formation of almost impenetrable
layers of compacted soil (hard pan) below the surface.

Two permanent pastures cut the same day. The first picture is regrowth after 7 days as you
would expect it. The second photo was cut and photographed the same time as the first.
The difference being it was aerated the previous autumn with one of our machines.
1. The picture below shows compacted soil.
Horizontal compaction lines in the soil make it
hard for water, slurry and oxygen to penetrate
to the roots, starving them of vital nutrients,
resulting in poor grass growth.

The grass is a good week ahead of the non-aerated pasture. The roots are deeper and the
pasture has got away quicker.

2. The middle picture shows the same soil straight after aeration.
The soil has lost its shape, is loose and friable. Vertical fractures are now
visible and any water, slurry and oxygen can travel around the roots.
This fracture can only be achieved when the ground is hard or dry and
only our machines are heavy enough to penetrate the hard soil at speed.

3. The last picture (below) was taken from the same pasture, approximately 3 weeks after aeration.
The root structure has improved and fresh root growth is searching
deeper.

Livestock grazing, combined with these factors, contributes

to soil compaction/ hard pan formation. Hard pans can
develop at any level in the soil and will constitute a barrier to
water and oxygen entry and will prevent deeper, healthier root
growth.

THATCH LAYER

When soil is compacted and a hard pan forms; helpful soil

microbes and earthworms are reduced or eliminated, pastures
dry out faster, become waterlogged quicker and plant growth is
restricted; resulting in lower crop and pasture yields.
The AerWorx Aerators blades will penetrate and shatter the
hard pan without exposing the soil to erosion.

It works in all soil types from sandy to heavy clay to rocky

from flawless hayfields to rugged terrains.

Relieve soil compaction and root-bound sod. Stimulate grass

roots to grow down, resulting in greener, thicker grasses.
Receive nutrient by turning ground into a sponge, absorbing all
rain, fertilizer or natural waste applications. Avoid run-off in
hilly terrain. Extend the life of your fertilization time period.
Save time and fuel increase grass yield and stocking rates!

6 Reasons W hy You Should Aerate Your Farm

1. Aeration gives water and nutrients better access to the root systems
of your forage. As the tines of the aerator penetrate, twist and exit,
they create an easier means of getting vital elements to the roots of
your plants. The more nutrients that water can take to the roots,
the more productive the pasture can be.

2. Aeration reduces fertilizer costs. Aeration can cut your fertilizer

costs up to 35%.
3. Aeration enhances the use of manure on pastures. Many farmers
use manure from poultry houses as fertilizer for their pasture.
When combined with aeration, manure can become an even more
important element of forage production.

4. Aeration reduces soil erosion. When water hits a pasture, it will

either run in or run off; and when it runs off, it takes part of the
soil with it. Aeration allows more of the water to run in.
5. Aeration enhances the outcome of no-till planting. As more farmers
adapt the practice of no-till planting, many are discovering that
aeration prior to planting yields better results.

6. Aeration is effective in a variety of soil types. When a farmer is

faced with a rocky soil, a sub-soiling tool is often found to be
useless. With the unique rotating tine system of the aerator,
rocky soil is not a problem. It allows producers who do not have the
ideal soil environment to still take advantage of aeration benefits.
