EPA drafts new coal plant rules
BY SUSAN HYLTON
World Business Writer
Federal regulators are drawing
a line in the sky for new coal-red
power generation plants.
The EPA released draft rules
Friday as part of its efort to con-
trol climate change. New-build
coal plants would have to meet a
1,100-pound carbon-dioxide stan-
dard for each megawatt hour of
power, which industry ofcials say
is impossible to achieve without
carbon-capture technology.
Industry ofcials say the tech-
nology isnt commercially avail-
able yet, and could be so costly
that it may discourage the con-
struction of any more electricity
plants powered by coal.

American Airlines and US Air-
ways want to know why the Justice
Department approved other airline
mergers and are asking a federal
court to release the relevant docu-
ments.
In a ling Friday with the U.S.
District Court in Washington, D.C.,
American parent AMR Corp. and
US Airways asked Judge Colleen
Kollar-Kotelly in their antitrust
case to order the Department of
Justice to give up documents relat-
ing to mergers going back as far as
the 2005 combination of US Air-
ways and America West.
Each time, DOJ issued press re-
leases explaining that, after careful
consideration, it had determined
that the merger would enhance
competition in the airline industry

Indeed, the amount of hand-

recoveries
often lead to
deep downturns. Remember the
post-9/11 rebound that turned
out to be built on easy credit and a
home-loan fever that was unreal-
istic and unsustainable? That was
followed by the worst recession
since the Great Depression.
This time, we have soaring prof-

Lined up: iPhone ritual
BY ROBERT EVATT
World Business Writer
F
riday was the sixth time
Apple released an iPhone,
but Tulsans still lined up
outside stores across the city to
get them.
As usual, the biggest gather-
ing by far was at the Apple Store
in Woodland Hills Mall, where
well over 150 people formed a
line stretching out the distant
mall doors to pick up either the
more advanced iPhone 5S or the
less expensive, more colorful
iPhone 5C at the stroke of 8 a.m.
The rst customer in line was
Amanda Gammill, who said she
arrived at 7:15 p.m. Thursday.
Gammill, like many people at
the store, wanted to ensure she
was able to get the right combi-
nation of color and storage, es-
pecially since Apple Inc. didnt
allow pre-orders of the 5S. The
company now allows people to
reserve the 5S online.
For Gammill, the choice of a
gold phone was personal.
Ryder Herring passed away
in March of a brain tumor, and
we wanted to get a gold iPhone
to remember him by, she said.
Gold is the color chosen to hon-
or those with childhood cancer,
and we heard Apple was low on
gold phones.
Gammill said she and her
husband, Jonathon, passed the
night outside the mall watching
TV shows via Netix on their
iPad and trading turns running
to nearby spots for restroom
breaks.
By 7:15 a.m., Apple employees
Malorie Revels, 3, waits in line with her father, James Revels, in front of the AT&T Wireless store at Tulsa Hills Shopping Center on Friday, the rst day
of iPhone 5S and 5C sales. Revels said he arrived at 10:30 p.m. Thursday and that Malorie was dropped of about 5:30 a.m. to wait with him.
