First Junior Clerk, October 2004 to June 2006 A common law set with (at the time) 32 members of chambers spanning crime, family, landlord and tenant, employment and civil practices. Duties I reported to the senior clerk and helped mentor another 2 clerks. There were 4 clerks in total, the senior clerk, 1 st Junior, Fees and Junior. Responsible, together with the senior clerk for the pro-active management and development of members practices. Acted as senior clerk in his absence. Individual practices were managed by one-to-one meetings together with Practice Group meetings, which I organised and attended. Receipt and entering of Briefs and Instructions using the ACE Infinity computer system. Entering hearings, trials, conferences, site views etc in the diary. Liaising with list offices of relevant courts to avoid clashes and optimise the availability of members. Agreeing fees for hearings, trials and providing estimates for the drafting of paperwork. Regular review of the aged debt and following up with both instructing solicitors and the Legal Services Commission where necessary. Marketing duties included working with the teams to come up with ideas for talks to be given to our clients; ensuring that our target solicitors were invited and further ensuring materials were drafted in a timely manner for each event. Sat in and engaged on pupillage interviews. I was given responsibility for the management of pupillage applications.

Chambers of Simeon Maskrey QC, 7 Bedford Row 1st Junior (Civil and Family Team) July 2002 to September 2004 Recognised as one of the top 30 sets at the bar. 18 silks and a total of 87 members spanning, crime, family, PI, clinical negligence, JR, commercial and employment. Duties I reported to the Senior Civil and Family Clerk. There were 3 Criminal Clerks, 2 Civil and Family Clerks, 2 Fees Clerks, a Chambers Administrator and a Chief Executive. There were also 3 post clerks. I entered briefs and instructions onto the ACE Infinity computer system. Where instructions were not sent for specific counsel I would discuss with the solicitor appropriate counsel having regard to workloads, expertise and the ability to complete the work within required timeframes. I agreed fees on hearings, conferences and paperwork. I would often be required to liaise and reassure those instructing where paperwork was late or chosen counsel was unavailable for hearings. Practice meetings were held by me and the senior civil and family clerk on a one-to-one basis. I and the senior civil and family teams would also have regular meetings to identify where action was needed with regard their promotion to our clients and new opportunities.

Chambers of Kerim Fuad QC and Marion Smullen, 1 Inner Temple Lane 1st Junior, January 1999 to May 2002 A 31 member criminal set of chambers within The Temple. Duties Reporting to the Senior Clerk. There were 4 clerks in total: the senior clerk, myself, a fees clerk and a junior clerk. I was jointly responsible for the diary planning for all 31 members of chambers I entered briefs and instructions using the ACE Infinity computer system Liaised with court listing officers to avoid clashes and optimise the availability of counsel

Together with the senior clerk held meetings with members to discuss concerns over future engagements and practice direction. Chambers of David Barnard, 33 Bedford Row Junior/Second Junior Clerk, June 1994 January 1999 A common law set of chambers with some 30 members. Work undertaken by members included crime, family, civil, employment and landlord and tenant. Duties I reported to the Senior Clerk. There were five clerks in total: the senior clerk, 1st junior, myself, a fees clerk and a junior/post clerk. I would receive and enter briefs and instructions using the ACE Infinity computer system I would, following agreement from the senior clerk, agree fees for hearings and paperwork. I was responsible to ensure that all briefs and instruction were entered correctly and in a timely fashion, ensuring any relevant dates were entered into counsels diaries. Attend Crown Court T-Parties when required. Liaise with list officers to obtain best dates and timings for our members. Attend the RCJ to fix hearings and lodge documents where required. Accompany counsel to court if needed.
