Midwifery Modules Level 5 HND Nursing I.

The objective of the module is the acquisition of knowledge towards the maintenance and the improvement of health, the prevention of disease, the fostering of recovery, the restoration of well-being and the recuperation of the maximum degree of functionality of the individual under treatment. natomy. The module focuses on the essential scientific knowledge concerning the human organism, securing the proper diagnosis and treatment of various ailments and diseases. Physiology. The module aims at the acquisition of the essential knowledge for the comprehension of the basic functions of the human body. The module assists students to learn and comprehend the physiological concepts that provide a strong foundation for progression into clinical medicine and stimulates an active lifelong interest in learning physiology and pathophysiology. General Pharmacology. The objective of the module is to enable students to develop a thorough understanding of the process involved in drug action. This includes the mechanisms of drug action as well as the process involved in drug disposition. The content of the module focuses also on the basic concepts of pharmacology, necessary for health practitioners. Microbiology. Theory and Laboratory. The content of the course consists of preventive measures, diagnosis, confirmation of laboratory findings, as well as the monitoring of the progress of the disease. The aim of the laboratory exercises is the familiarization of the students with the following: Laboratory security Use of basic equipment General microbiological methods of microorganism treatment Quantitative analysis of microorganisms

Sterilization. This is a basic module covering the microbial, scientific, technological, and statistical foundations of sterilization methods. The purpose of the course is to provide fundamental information on the application of sterilization methods in production processes. The module is geared towards the acquisition of necessary knowledge and skills that will enable the student to prevent effectively the entrance of pathogens in the tissues and organs of the patient. Hygiene. The teaching of the Hygiene module is targeted towards the reparation of harmful practices and detrimental habits of personal and general sanitation and hygiene. Knowledge is built on the application of novel practices safeguarding the maintenance and the amelioration of individual and environmental health. idwifery I. The module focuses on the required knowledge that will assist the students in dealing properly with all the stages that precede and follow the delivery.

The contents include the education of the midwives towards the sound treatment of all the pre-peri- and ante-natal phases under normal conditions. Gynecology I. The module examines in depth the physiology of the human reproductive system, some core knowledge which needs to be consolidated by the student. Post Natal care I and II. The module focuses on fundamental knowledge for the maintenance and the improvement of infant and toddler health. Psychology. The module consists of an introduction to general psychology and focuses on the analysis of the psychology of the ante-natal, the peri-natal and the post-natal female. Its objective is for the student to acquire, apart from basic knowledge in psychology, knowledge on patient psychology, essential for the psychological support of the patient. Clinical Placement. Practical application of the theoretical modules at the clinical laboratory of the college and at a hospital.
