Instruct patient to take without regard to meals because absorption isnt affected by food. 4. Urge patient to avoid cigarette smoking because this may increase gastric acid secretion and

worsen the disease.

Nursing Responsibility 1. Reasess patients level of pain at least 30 minutes after administration. Monitor bowel and bladder function. Anticipate need for laxative. For better analgesic effect, give drug before the onset of pain. Monitor patient for drug dependence. Withdrawal of symptoms may occur if drug is stopped abruptly. Reduce dosage gradually.

Mechanism of Action Bind to bacterial cell wall membrane causing cell death. Bactericidal Action.

Indication Serious lower respiratory tract infection, UTI, skin or skin structure infections.
