Description of Electrical Fire Risk Assessment

Annual risk assessment/inspection could be enough but frequency can be shortened, i.e., semi-annually (or depending on the use of the area, introduction of new materials, equipment, appliance, and increased traffic of people). Connected loads to a branch circuit must not exceed the total allowable wattage for that circuit (as defined in the Philippine Electrical Code). Physical condition of the wiring system or apparatus should show no sign of insulation damage, embrittlement or cracking, does not pose eventual conductor shorting or metallic casing/body grounding, and no indication of overloading such as insulation color change or burnt smell. Operational functionality tests were carried out to check performance of wiring system, apparatus or equipment under normal conditions. These did not involve short circuit test or the like. Housekeeping or regular cleaning to prevent build-up of combustible materials (in the forms of dusts and materials that may be brought-in by birds and rats) Method of inspection is ocular (other methods may involve thermographic surveys to identify hotspots, usually done annually) Some assessment criteria are not applicable (n/a) to some risk area and as such is indicated. The procedure in this electrical fire risk assessment approach was developed by JGP 2013.
