Shri Sujit Dasgupta joined Geological Survey of India (GSI) in the mid seventies and continued with the organization till his superannuation in 2010 from the post of Deputy Director General. He has worked in different fields of earth-science including geological mapping, geotechnical investigation, seismotectonics, earthquake hazard studies etc among others. With his strong geological background he is a resource person on the geology of northeast India and Burma. He was awarded National Mineral Award in 1988 by the Government of India for his contribution in the field of geosciences. After completing the International Training course on Seismology and Seismic Risk Mitigation in 1993, he took up the assignment of compiling the Seismotectonic Atlas of India and its Environs which was published by GSI in 2000. This is an important document being utilized by all major construction project authorities in India. He was associated with the post earthquake surveys in the aftermath of the 1997, 2001 and 2004 earthquakes in India and was editor of the GSI publication on the 2004 Sumatra-Andaman earthquake. He was a member of NCSDP, CWC for more than a decade. Since 2004 he attended and contributed in UNESCO sponsored all the workshops (RELSAR: Bangladesh, 2004; China; 2005; Thailand, 2006; Bhutan, 2008 & Iran, 2011). After leaving GSI he was associated with NHPC for one year (2011) as Consultant for their Burma (Myanmar) Hydroelectric projects. During 2012- 2014 he is extending his expertise as Consultant to different hydropower projects towards preparation of PFR/DPR on earthquake & engineering geological problems. Relevant Experience among others: 1. Resident Geologist for construction stage Upper Kolab Hydro project, Orissa during 1980-81 2. Preliminary stage investigation for Ramam stage V project, West Bengal & Sikkim during 1981-83 3. Power House pit & foundation mapping- Doyang Project, Nagaland, 1992 4.
