Maximum Minimum
Notes: 1) 2)

Indoor Air Conditioned (2) 35C (95F) 10C (50F)

Outdoor Sheltered (1)(2)(3) 55C (131F) 0C (32F)

Outdoor Unsheltered (2)(3) 65C (149F) 0C (32F)

"Sheltered" refers to permanent, ventilated enclosures or buildings, or permanently fixed sunshades with a top and three sides. For instruments which dissipate internal heat and are installed in custom engineered enclosures (e.g., enclosures not included in the original manufacturer's temperature certification), an additional 15C shall be added to the above maximum temperatures. An example, for "indoor air conditioned" installation, the equipment must perform at 35 + 15 = 50C. Similarly, for the "outdoor unsheltered" case, the equipment shall be designed for a maximum operating temperature of 65 + 15 = 80C. For the outdoor installations only, the designer can take credit for forced or passive cooling to eliminate or reduce the 15C heat rise. For example, if vortex coolers are used, the heat removal capacity of the coolers may be subtracted from the generated heat. No more than 15C reduction in temperature will be given as credit. The designer shall substantiate his claim by providing the support data and calculations.

3)

4.2

Contaminants Installations shall be designed for operation in an environment with containment levels as defined in the Ambient Air Quality Section of SAES-A-112.

4.3

Humidity Indoor humidity design basis shall be 20% to 80% relative humidity. Outdoor design basis shall be 5% to 95% relative humidity (non-condensing).

Design and Construction 5.1 Fail-Safe Design The annunciating circuits shall be designed to fail-safe. Any single failure or defect in system hardware shall cause the annunciating system to initiate an alarm. Annunciators shall be field proven for at least 1 year. Annunciators shall be initiated by on/off signals, serial data link, dual redundant serial data link, and/or network connection as specified in the P.O. All on/off inputs shall be opto-coupled. All on/off signals shall "open" on fault conditions. All PCB switches shall be consistently set, or programmed, to activate the alarm on an "opening" contact.

Data link communication ports and paths and network connections shall be electrically isolated from the external logic processors. Loss of communication on any serial data link or network connection shall initiate an alarm on the annunciator. The communications interface and software shall be field proven for at least 1 year. 5.2 Standard Annunciator Sequences "First-Out" sequence when specified shall be provided for individual alarm points or groups of points in one annunciator per ANSI/ISA 18.1, Sequence F3A. For specific application requirements refer to Form 8020-815-ENG. 5.3 Enclosures The annunciator enclosures shall be suitable for the area classification specified on the ISS. Indoor annunciator enclosures shall meet the requirements of NEMA 250/NEMA ICS 6 Type 1 or 12 or IEC 60529 Type IP 41 as specified on the ISS. Outdoor annunciator enclosures shall meet NEMA 250/NEMA ICS 6 Type 4, or 4X or IEC 60529 Type IP 65 as specified on the ISS. They shall be sufficiently rigid to withstand normal operation and transportation without damage. 5.4 Mounting If logic modules are mounted separately from the display window, then the display window shall house the nameplate, lamps or LED assembly and wiring terminals. Unless otherwise specified by the Buyer, remote logic chassis shall be suitable for mounting in standard nineteen (19) inch racks. Alarm modules shall be supplied for all windows, including the spares. 5.5 Electronic Components 5.5.1 General All components shall be of high grade industrial standard varieties rated for temperature conditions listed in Section 4. All components and assemblies shall be designed to operate with internal natural draft air circulation with no louvres and no fans. The surface temperature rise of components mounted on printed circuit boards shall not exceed 25C above ambient. If this rise is exceeded, a screen shall be provided to eliminate accidental contact.

5.5.2

Printed Circuit Boards All Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs) shall be coated with a solderable clear epoxy polyurethane resin vanish after assembly, prior to inspection and testing. Individual circuits shall be designed in such a way that the removal or insertion of one PCB shall not affect the operation of other circuits. All PCB's shall be identical and universal in application and specific operating sequences shall be made by programmable switches. All outputs shall be short-circuit proof.

5.5.3

LED Indicators Output state LEDs on PCBs shall be mechanically protected by a clear cover (e.g., Plexiglas) which may also act as an external handle.

5.5.4 Identification Each printed circuit board shall be identified by type number. 5.5.5 Electrical The annunciators shall be listed, labeled, and conform to UL, FM, CSA or CENELEC guidelines. Special wiring requirements shall be as specified in the P.O. 5.6 Display Windows Display windows shall be translucent white unless otherwise specified, and engraved, or laser printed, with black letters. The font size shall be minimum 3.2 mm (1/8"). Each window shall be illuminated by two (2) lamps or LED assembly. The lamps, or LED assemblies mounted behind the display windows shall be easily accessible for replacement from the front without the aid of special tools. A lamp, or LED assembly test circuitry shall be provided for each annunciator. Lamps or LED assemblies shall be rated for at least 5000 hours. Spare display windows shall be provided and be wired and equipped with lamps, or LED assemblies and windows, however without engraving. 5.7 Push Buttons Pushbuttons shall be provided for the "acknowledge", "reset", and "lamp test"or "LED test" functions. When specified, "First out reset" shall also be provided. The lamp or LED assembly test function shall not disable the annunciator.

5.8

Audible Alarm Each annunciator shall be supplied with a relay to actuate a remote common audible signal device, powered by an external power supply, as specified in the PO.

5.9

Relays All relays shall be hermetically sealed with "Single-Pole Double-Throw" (SPDT) contacts.
Exception: Relays with dust-tight enclosures may be used for indoor installations.

5.10

Power Supply The annunciators shall operate from the external supply voltage specified on the ISS. External horns shall be AC or DC powered, as specified in the PO. Supply voltage may vary within the following tolerances:
