These are the size needles I used for this pattern. If you generally knit large, they will likely be perfect. However, if you are one of those blessed knitters whose gauge matches, then please take time to gauge. You may well need to use size 3 and 4 needles. BO = bind off sts = stitches MC = main color, lt. purple CC = contrast color, dk. purple CC2 = second contrast color, white NOTE: In this whimsical sweater each piece is different. The front has an off-center button and a slight V-gap at the bottom. The two sides of the front are different colors and the back is blocks of all three colors. It is also designed to be knit quickly. Thus there is no collar and no finishing bands added. When the five pieces are knit, finishing is adding the button, sewing the seams, and weaving in the ends. Back With rib needle and MC, cast on 58 (64, 70) sts. Establish rib pattern (K1, P1) and k 5 rows Row 6: inc 6 sts evenly across [64 (70, 76) sts] Begin color pattern in stockinette This pattern is called Ready 4 Adventure, so rather than giving exact instructions for making the pattern exactly as I made it, my challenge to you is to create your own color pattern on the back. If you want to go with triangular blocks similar to what is noted in this pattern, then: Row 1 (RS): K 48 (51, 54) in MC, k 16 (19, 22) in CC Now over the next 40 or so rows, gradually increase the number of stitches with CC and gradually decrease the number of stitches in MC until you have about 20 (23, 26) in MC and 44 (47, 50) in CC. In the next RS row, add CC2 in between the two colors and steadily increase the number of stitches in CC2, while commensurately decreasing the number of stitches in the other two colors. I decreased the MC more slowly to make a kind of peak at the shoulder. The quicker increase of CC2 on the other side (often over two sts) And then to mix it up a bit, closer to the top, add back in CC. When the piece measures just under 10 (11, 12) begin 2 rows of seed stitch. BO in seed stitch. The seed stitch is the collar in this pattern. Right Front Using MC, cast on 21 (24, 27) sts K1 P1 ribbing for 6 rows Begin stockinette st. For each row, the 4 stitches on the button side will be in seed stitch. At the same time, begin increasing stitches on button side until you have 47 (50, 53) stitches and are at pattern Row 39 or about 6 from the beginning. Continue in stockinette until piece measures just under 10 (11, 12) begin 2 rows of seed stitch.
