Job description:
Department of Archaeology & Museums
The Department of Archaeology and Museums is the custodian of the
nation‘s rich cultural heritage, which includes both movable and immovable
cultural property. The Department is charged with the responsibility of scientific
study, logical interpretation, proper preservation and meaningful presentation of
ancient relics. Conservation and preservation of Archaeological Sites and
Historical Monuments also falls within the responsibilities of the Department.
Presently the Department of Archaeology & Museums has 392 protected sites
and including 6 World Heritage Monuments, 10 National Monuments and 13
Museums under its administrative control.
Job identification:
The Department of Archaeology and Museums invites applications from suitable
candidates for appointment of a Project Director on Contract/Deputation basis for an
initial period not exceeding two years which will be extendable further till completion
period on yearly basis after evaluation of their performance for implementation of the
project namely “Preservation and Restoration of Rohtas Fort, District jhelum (A-World
Heritage Site)”

Job summary:
Powers:
He shall be delegated full administrative and financial powers commensurate with the
level of responsibility imposed on him and the size of the project given to him for
completion as laid down under Para 7.3” Appointment of Project Director of P&D
Division’s Manual 1991”.
Duration:
2 years this may exceed till completion date.
Salary:
Pay package (Per Month all Inclusive Re. 75000/-) (5% Annual increase up to maximum
Re. 90,000/-).

Director General appoints him.

Duties and responsibilities:


• Planning, scheduling and implementation of the project:
a) Preparing condition report of the monument reflecting the damages/defects observed
in the monuments, critical analysis of the damage to diagnose their cause(s) /source (s),
possible measures for implementation at the site, evaluation of the strength of the
existing structures, evaluation of the need for repair. Selection of the most exacting
treatment in accordance with the internationally valid principles of conservation,
implementation of the repair works, repair procedure adopted, expenditure incurred and,
result of the repair works including reasons of their success
b) Maintain record of the prevailing rates of materials and the laborers of various
categories.
c) Prepare budget proposal for securing allocations in accordance with the approved
financial phasing of the project.
d) Prepare annual Cash Work plan of the project keeping in view budget allocation r4 p
as aid down in the approved pc-l.
e) Preparation of detailed estimates and requisition of materials and laborers.
f) Calling, opening, scrutiny and approval of the tenders.
g) Participate in contract- negotiations.
h) Issue work/supply orders to contractors.
i) Resolve disputes with the contractors and laborers.
j) Carry out development works as per relevant Pak. PWD specifications and in strict
accordance with good engineering practices.
• Monitoring controlling and evaluation of the project:

a) Keep proper record of the project for presentation to the Department of Archaeology
and Museums and the Ministry of Culture.
b) Monitor the progress of the project with reference to financing.
c) Prepare and monitor expenditure statements.
d) Ensure accuracy of accounts matters.
e) Analyze and present monthly and periodical project reports.
f) Coordinate with internal and external auditors and monitoring teams.
• Ensure completion of the Project on time, within the approved cost
and up to specification as mentioned in the approved PC-I.
iv) Keep the Department of Archaeology and Museums and the Ministry of Culture fully
informed of the project status, cost, timing and prospects and also about the likely future
problems.
• Prepare and submit Annual Report of development works dully supported with
before during and after conservation photographs of the monuments to the
DOAM by 15th July each year.

• Take responsibilities in case of failure of the project for any reason and
embezzlement of project funds, by any members of the team. .
Duties according to the working conditions:
Carryout conservation work departmentally.
 Guide and supervise the project staff.
 Define duties and responsibilities of the project staff within one month of the date
of assumption of charge of PD-Ship of the Project
 Ensure that the problems contributing to the decay and deterioration of the
monument are properly identified and eliminated taking appropriate measures
 Ensure that conservation work is done with traditional material6 and techniques.
 Ensure that the co work fully meets the antiquarian and technical requirements.
 Ensure that the conservation works done under the project do not harm the
monument neither now nor in the long run.
Ensure that the conservation works would last for 03-04 centuries or. even more.
Job specification:
Qualification:
Essential : be(civil) or MBA / lums or master degree in archaeology /museology /
anthropology /history /geography/sociology /classical languages such as Persian ,Arabic
Sanskrit ,Hebrow ,geek Latin and Aramaic /2nd class bachelor’s degree in architecture
preferably with the subject of planning and urban development.
Preferable: be (civil) with MBA from IBA / lums.
Experience:
Minimum 10 years experience in archaeology or in project management with reputable
private Government organization
Preferable: at least 10 year experience in archeology or in management of conservation
of monuments and sites /building construction project
Skills and abilities:
He must have good writing skills.
He must have good communication skills.
He must have good report writing skills.
He must excellent presentation skills.
He knows Computer skills

Only train or experienced personal are require for this job
