Required Materials: A. A 1 or 2 inch 3-ring binder with loose-leaf notebook paper. {graph paper & dividers optional} B. PENCILS!!!!! are required! No pens allowed in class. C. Calculator (Casio fx-115ES PLUS or better) {approximately $15.00} Classroom and Behavioral Expectations: 1. All math work must be written in PENCIL! Papers turned in written in ink will NOT be accepted. 2. Homework Assignments are given almost on a daily basis (this may include weekends). Homework will not be graded or taken up. It will be checked for completion at the beginning of each class period. For each completed homework check, you will receive a BONUS POINT on the next quiz/test. You will be given a Homework Sheet that covers

review topics some weeks that WILL BE GRADED because it is not new materials. These will be given on a Monday or Tuesday and are to be turned in on a Friday. 3. Other Graded Assignments will also be given from time to time. It is extremely important to complete these assignments in a timely manner as well, showing all work necessary to complete assigned problems. CREDIT WILL NOT BE GIVEN for assignments that do not show necessary work. 4. QUIZZES will be given almost every week. These quizzes may be announced or unannounced, at the teachers discretion. 5. TESTS will be given at the end of each unit of study or as the teacher feels necessary. 6. NOTEBOOKS are required. All work will be retained there. I may grade them at random, so it is in your best interest to stay on top of keeping it organized and complete.

7. Journal Writings will be completed in this class from time to time. 8. All students are expected to adhere to the honor code. CHEATING will not be tolerated. Students involved in cheating will not receive credit for that assignment, and parents will be contacted. 9. Progress Reports will be issued every 4 weeks. 10. A Final will be given at the end of each semester that will constitute 15% of your average. 11. Electronic Devices (cell phones, CD players, mp3 players, ear pieces, blackberries, etc.) should not be visible in the classroom. Electronic devices also need to be on silent, vibrate, or off. If the electronic device becomes a disturbance or is utilized in the classroom, the teacher has the right to confiscate it.

Make-up Policy: Students are responsible for making up work missed. ALL makeup work must be completed within 3 days of an excused absence before or after school. Class instructional time will not be used to make up work. You must make arrangements with the teacher to make up tests and quizzes after school. Work not made up within this time period or missed during an unexcused absence will be recorded as a zero. Projects have to be turned in on time regardless of the situation. There will be a deduction in points if a project is not turned in on time. This is regardless of excused or unexcused absence.

Re-do Policy:

All work is a work in progress

Your best is expected; failure is not accepted! All students are permitted to rework assignments for a better score. Students will have a time limit to complete reworked assignments. Students will be allowed to re-do tests to improve their grade according to the following stipulations: 1 1. The test is retaken after school within one week of the distribution of the original graded test. 2 2. The test can only be retaken once. The grade on the retest will be determined as follows: If the student scores 71 or higher on retest, 70 is subtracted from the retest score and the result is divided by 2 and then added back to 70. The resulting answer is the test grade. Example: A student scores 84 on a retest. 84 70 = 14 14 2 = 7 70 + 7 = 77 Thus, the assigned retest grade is 77. If the student scores a lower grade on the retest, the original grade will stand.

All rules of TCHS apply in this class.

August 2013 Dear Parent or Guardian, Welcome. I am excited and privileged to have the opportunity to teach Math III to your child for the 2013-14 school year. I am sending this letter to let you know more about your child's teacher and class. Please sign and return the back page of the course syllabus acknowledging you have read all information. This will count as a homework grade. I am Mr. C. Gay. As a teacher, I will assist all students in obtaining success in their classes, as well as prepare students for the world in which they live. In order for your child to be successful, we must work together. I am asking you to help by checking homework on an average of 2 times per week, checking your childs notebook periodically, asking daily about objectives covered in class, and assisting with making sure objectives are met. This will allow you and your child to help me better assist them in their weak areas. I am available after school for extra help on most days until 3:45 pm and by appointment.
