B.Tech/B.E holders and Section B passed candidates can get a degree in additional branch of engineering through AMIE examination. They can appear for AMIE examination at any center and when they clear certain number of subjects they get another degree in engineering !!

B.Tech/B.E holders (even freshers) from recognized university, no mark restriction.

Procedure
Step 1. Become an 'Associate' member. To become an 'Associate", download, print out and fill "application form to become Associate". Step 2. Seek help from any 'Supporter' known to you to verify your photograph and signature. A supporter is normally a senior AMIE/MIE/FIE holder who will introduce you to the engineers community called the IEI (Institution of Engineers, India ). Step 3. Pay fee of Rs 2600/- as DD, drawn in favour of "The Institution of Engineers (India)" payable at Kolkata. This is the fee for registering as an Associate. Step 4. Apply Section B Registration. The application form is downloadable. The filled up form along with fee of Rs 3000/- is to be sent to Head Quarters, Kolkata. This is the fee for Section B registration. Step 5. Apply and appear for Section B examinations. This step is applicable only if you want to take AMIE in a branch different from your B.Tech/B.E branch.

As B.Tech/B.E holders, the number of subjects and the syllabus they need to study to get an additional degree depends on three factors.

1.The engineering branch in which they already B.Tech/B.E 2.The engineering branch they choose in AMIE 3.The optional subjects they select in the choosen branch in AMIE As general rule, all B.Tech/B.E passed candidates will get complete exemption from Section A. They need to clear Section B subjects only. In Section B also, they will get exemption of those subjects (or its equivalent subjects) which they already studied during their B.Tech/B.E course. As a rough estimate the maximum number of subjects they have to appear is eight.

Duration
AMIE examinations are conducted in every June and December. In one chance a student can appear for a maximum of 4 subjects. If a student has to clear 8 subjects in Section B, he can clear all these subjects in two chances i.e, in one year.

Lab and Project work


In Section B a student has to do project work and laboratory experiments. The project work is to be carried out under the guidance of Project Guide allotted by IEI. Complete instructions on this shall be intimated to the student from IEI. In project work, a student do not have to fabricate any "projects" as in conventional way. A student who cleared at least 5 subjects in Section B can do project work and laboratory experiments. List of candidates registered for May / June and November / December sessions for project work and / or laboratory experiments shall be available on website in last week of May and November, respectively. The list will indicate the name and address of the project guide and / or name of the college / institute for laboratory experiments. In addition, all such candidates shall be informed by ordinary post with due information to their project guide and / or the college.

IMPORTANT POINTS TO REMEMBER


No acknowledgement is sent regarding receipt of examination form / registration for Section B / application for project work / laboratory experiments. However, membership numbers of all eligible applicants for registration of Section B are made available on website a week prior to Summer / Winter examination. For candidates applied for registration of Section B, separate identity card shall be issued. For any examination-related enquiry, students are advised to send the mail only at exams@ieindia.org. Please do not send exam-related enquiry to any other e-mail ID.Efforts are made to reply queries as fast as possible. However, in certain cases, it takes time for verification.
