MASTERS PROJECT
HAPTIC NAVIGATION
Mission: Design and prototype a creative wearable
artifact that augments and extends the capabilities
of the human.
Background: Worked with Microsoft Research
Asia, and a satellite school at USTC, my team did
heavy benchmarking, need-finding, and constant
prototyping with the use of ARDUINO to explore
various possibilities in the wearable field, including
smart facemasks, emotional health tracking, and
smart condoms.
ROMU: Our final implemented product, ROMU,
is a new wearable product designed for seamless
pedestrian navigation. The slim-profile armband
will guide you to your destination through a series
of turn-by-turn instructions in the form of intuitive
patterns of vibration. All you have to do is input
your target location in the accompanying Android
app and the haptic signals are transmitted to the
armband via Bluetooth.
