When should I do this?

What should I do if I am having issues with this?

After the Full ClearCase 8 client is installed and new views have been created the user should review this tutorial to learn about common ClearCase operations. Seek assistance from your IA or a senior developer on your team before contacting Business Intelligence. Please do not put a ticket higher than P3 for these issues. Direct the ticket to Common Business Processes team, with screenshots of the issue you are having and a detailed description.

Accessing Files
1. Click on Start.

2. Go to Windows Explorer (Under Programs > Accessories)

3. On the left-side navigation, select the M: drive

4. All of your views should be listed as folders in the M: drive. If the views are missing then it means that they have not been started, and in that case you should run the cc_startview.bat file. If you have not created this file follow the link below for instructions on how to do so http://hdqfsweb.psc.uss.com/bi/commonbusinessprocesses/qa/CC-CQ8/ERP/Creating_ClearCase_Views_for_ERP.doc

5. Navigate to your view in the M: drive. Right click on the view folder of your choice and then select ClearCase > ClearCase Explorer

6. Once the ClearCase Explorer window opens, navigate to the file you wish to display using the expandable folders on the left. The contents of the file you select will appear in the main area. Double click on the file you wish to display, and Windows will automatically choose the associated program to open the contents of that file.

7. File version information is shown in ClearCase Explorer under the column titled Version.

ClearQuest Activity
In order to successfully edit files (called a check-out) you must have a ClearQuest activity created and assigned to yourself. Skip this step if you already have a ClearQuest activity to work with, or else you can use this information to update your existing activity, if needed. 1. Launch ClearQuest for Windows Client

2.

Fill in your USS network credentials, and select USSW2: USSteel_userdb_Wave_2 from the database dropdown. Then click on OK

3. In order to create a new activity, use the arrow dropdown next to New ADT_Defect button on the top

4. Then select an appropriate activity type from the pop-up menu

5. Once the Submit window appears, fill all of the mandatory fields and then click on OK

Note: The ID field is the main key with which you can conveniently search CQ activities. 6. In order to search for an existing record, in ClearQuest for Windows Client, go to Edit menu and then select Find Record

7. Once the Find Record window appears, check the Search All Record Types checkbox and then type in the ID number you are looking for

Note: You only have to type the numbers after USSW2 in the ID and can skip all preceding zeros as well. For example if the ID was USSW200012345, you can only type 12345 to find that record. 8. Once the record is displayed, you can click on Actions and select Modify to make any changes to that record, if needed

Check-Out
A file must be checked out before any changes can be made to it. 1. From ClearCase Explorer (please see the directions in Accessing a File to open ClearCase Explorer), use the expandable files on the left to navigate to the file you wish to check-out.

2. Right click on the file to be checked out and click on Check-Out.

3. Click the arrow for the drop-down menu under Activity to select the ClearQuest activity that will be associated with the check-out. Then Click OK.

4. A green check mark next to the file indicates that the file is checked-out.

Check-In
After the file is checked-out and changes have been successfully tested, the file must be checked-in to save these changes. 1. From the ClearCase Explorer window (see directions in Accessing a File to open ClearCase Explorer) you can navigate directly to the file you wish to check in. If you do not know the absolute path, right click on the view, and then click on Find Checkouts.

2. The Find Criteria window will appear. Ensure that the Include Additional Folders, Search only for you checkouts and Search only for checkouts in the current view options are selected as seen below

3. Once the list of checked-out files loads, select the file or files you wish to check-in. Multiple files can be selected by pressing the Ctrl button while clicking on the file names. Then right click and select Check In

4. The Check In window will appear. If you are checking-in more than one file, click the Apply to All button. If you checking-in one file, click OK.

Undo-CheckOut
If you have checked-out a file and do not want to save the changes, you will perform an undo-check-out to revert to the previous version. 1. From the ClearCase Explorer window (see the directions in Accessing a File to open ClearCase Explorer), you can navigate directly to the file you wish to undo-check-out on by using the expandable folders on the left. After you have located the desired file, go to Step3. If you do not know the absolute path, right click on the view, and then click on Find Checkouts.

2. The Find Criteria window will appear. Ensure that the Include Additional Folders, Search only for your checkouts, and Search only for checkouts in the current view options are selected as specified below.

3. Once the list of checked-out files loads, select the file or files on which you wish to undo-check-out. Then right click and select Undo Checkout

4. The Confirm Undo Check Out window will appear. If you are doing an UndoCheckOut for more than one file, click the Yes to All button. If you are doing undo-check-out for one file, then just click Yes. If you wish to save a copy of the modified file, check the Save copy of the file with a .keep extension checkbox.

Version Tree
Version tree is used to compare the current version of a file with its previous version. 1. From the ClearCase Explorer window, navigate to the file you wish to use by using the expandable folders on the left.

2. Right click on the file to compare, and then click on Version Tree.

3. Additional information can be seen by hovering over the node representing the version of the file. You can also right click on a version to compare it to another version, if needed.
