Currently the fast-growing municipality of Nacka (Stockholm, Sweden) lacks a strong city core and efficient public transport. By analyzing the processes that a new metro line would bring, the strategy was proposed to identify the city core of Nacka and consider different options of densification. Vrmdvgen road converted into the city venue should link Sickla Kpkvarter with Nacka Forum to form a continuing city core that provides the mix of functions and raises the density.

EXISTING SITUATION

REPLACEMENT OF PROPOSED KAI TAK TUNNEL

PROPOSED FUNCTIONS

Kai Tak area in Hong Kong - enclosed and separated by highways. By accepting it, urban planners should design more vital connections and pedestrian crossings. While developing Kai Tak area, major future problems caused by newly planned tunnels and elevated highways were faced. These problems lead to segregation of area and boundary with no possibility to cross it. Master plan was prepared using the guidelines for existing urban fabric, prevailing wind directions, compositional axes, view channels. In this project it was suggested to deal with existing situation and use unusable space in between the highways. In this case, public space should be equal or even bigger than transport space in order to increase public space value.

CIVIC CENTRE CHISINAU

Although Moldova is the poorest country in Europe, Chisinau is famous for being the greenest city in Europe. The place for a civic centre was chosen because of intensive traffic junction which became a boundary to the extension of a green belt along the river. This problem was solved with a new connection between river and lake, forcing water flows between those two and creating channel system as well as new public spaces under the busy viaduct. Art gallery, outdoor cinema, auditorium, daycare, playgrounds were introduced. All the surfaces modelled with slopes make it easier for disabled people to reach the space under. Public transport stop was integrated in this civic complex in order to achieve better accessibility.

ABROMISKES BARN
During my work practive, I was assigned to the project of reconstruction of Abromiskes (Elektrenai, Lithuania) manor barn, which is the part of historical complex, established in 19th century. The place is also known for the fact that Napoleon spent a night there on his way to Vilnius (capital of Lithuania) in 1882. Although the complex of historical buildings means a lot to community of Abromiskes, the current situation shows that buildings of this manor are basically ruined down and in dangerous state. This barn was included in the Lithuanian Culture Heritage list. This was the reason why the reconstruction project of this object became even more complicated. Unfortunately, barn burnt down to the foundation few years ago so every detail of construction structure and decor must have been restored from old drawings and pictures. After reconstruction this building was given to community. SUPERVISORS: Rimidijus Pikutis, Valdas Svedas EVALUATION: Pass / Pass UAB STATYBOS KONSULTACIJU IR PROJEKTU BIURAS, VILNIUS

Terrain of the site defined the design of the school volume. For this reason inner spaces were separated in different levels. Each classroom has an exit so classes could be held outside. Common space on inner terraces was defined by different function, character, scale and space - it is a place where teachers can communicate with students and a place to learn and play.
