Rationale:

HVAC equipment is a major user of electricity. It usually accounts

for a large share of the electric bills paid by most companies.

This course endeavors to enable participants to gain the

knowledge on how to design, analyze, operate and maintain the
Ventilation and Air-conditioning (VAC) systems in improving the
efficiency of HVAC and CHILLER plants.

Focus will be given on how to reduce energy consumption for HVAC systems
without significant capital expense and without sacrificing on occupant
comfort or process requirements.

Objectives:

At the end of the course participants should be able:

 to diagnose and solve common HVAC and building systems problems

that leads to higher electrical consumption.
 to understand how the elements of an HVAC system interact with
other building systems to provide cool indoor air in an efficient and
cost-effective manner.
 to gain an understanding of the basic energy prices and costs and to
understand the energy flows (and wastage) within a facility

Target Participants:

The course is most useful for:

 Building managers and business owners

 Facility supervisors & engineers
 HVAC consultants, contractors and designers
 Maintenance and operations HVAC personnel
 New graduate engineers
 Others who want to gain a better understanding of energy
conservation in heating, ventilation and air-conditioning
applications
About the Lecturer:

Rosendo “Rosen” B. Sanchez, BSME (U.P.), PME

BACKGROUND:

Rosendo “Rosen” B. Sanchez is the Principal Consultant and Design Engineer

of RBSanchez Consulting Engineers, Inc. and RBS Engineering Technologies.
He specializes in the design and consultancy of HVAC and Chiller systems and
technologies with emphasis on Energy Efficiency in Commercial and Industrial
Projects.

He graduated as Cum Laude in 1979 as BS Mechanical Engineering from the University of the Philippines,
Diliman, QC. He also garnered 1st Place in the Mechanical Engineers Licensure Board Examinations in
1981.

A Professional Mechanical Engineer, he is a practicing Mechanical Engineer and Design Consultant. He

has been featured in the media in TVs on the Scaffpro engineering, and in the Philippine Daily Inquirer
issue of Sept 21, 2008 as well as in Arabic newspapers in Dubai on his engineering HVAC design work
contribution to the world’s tallest building – the Dubai Burj Tower.

AS AN HVAC DESIGN ENGINEER AND CONSULTANT:

Currently his company holds various works on Mechanical Engineering consultancies such as HVAC
and Fire protection design and consultancy services, equipment commissioning services, energy
measurements and verification services and chiller system operating service contracts for
commercial and industrial mechanical systems.
He also serves currently as the HVAC Consultant to TRANE PHILIPPINES INC, MEINHARDT PHILS INC,
among others. He also has served as design consultant to various special projects of PILIPINAS SHELL
PETROLEUM CORP., MANILA COATS INC, TOYOTA MOTORS PHILS. INC, KRAFT FOODS, INC.
PENN PHILIPPINES INC., DELMARINE INC., TMSP CORP., AVON INC., among other companies.

LAST BUT NOT LEAST, in 2006-2007, he also significantly contributed to the HVAC design of the
WORLD’S TALLEST BUILDING - the internationally renowned “BURJ DUBAI TOWER” PROJECT which
will also host the first and only luxurious Georgi Armani Hotel in the world.

In this project, he was selected after intensive screening by a team of international consultants. He served in
official capacity as the HVAC DESIGN MANAGER for the DUBAI BURJ DEVELOPMENT project under
HITACHI-VOLTAS-ETA JV Company (this is the MEP Design-build company under Samsung as the
General Contractor).

He led the crucial HVAC Design Team and managed the large pool of multi-racial HVAC engineers and
draftsmen to produce constructible detailed designs for this massive and technologically challenging
engineering project. He is the official HVAC Engineer and signatory of all the HVAC construction drawings
of this expensive project.
AS LECTURER AND RESOURCE SPEAKER:

Engr. R. B.Sanchez has also served in many occasions as a LECTURER and RESOURCE SPEAKER.

He held regular and scheduled three (3) day courses on “Improving Energy Efficiency in HVAC
Systems” at the U.P. NATIONAL ENGINEERING CENTER (NEC), University of the Philippines, Diliman at
various times.

He also served as the lecturer by invitation from various companies and institutions:

INSITUTE OF INTEGRATED ELECTRICAL ENGINEERS OF THE PHILS. INC. (I.I.E.E.) on “HVAC Energy
Savings Techniques”, Sta. Rosa, Laguna. RESOURCE SPEAKER FOR “EQUIPMENT OPTIMIZATION
TECHNIQUES”, sponsored by ENERGY MANAGEMENT ASSOCIATION OF THE PHILIPPINES (ENMAP),
held at MERALCO Foundation, Inc., Ortigas Ave (2005). ENERGY EFFICIENCY, HVAC ECONOMICS,
New and emerging HVAC Technologies, etc. on several occasions including one done for the
YUCHENGCO GROUP OF COMPANIES in RCBC Corporation Building, Makati City. RCM- “RELIABILITY
CENTERED EQUIPMENT MAINTENANCE” for the WG&A SHIPPING EQUIPMENT SERVICES OF
DELMARINE CORPORATION.
