Arktis introduced the Police Utility vest in the late 1990s, initially as part of a programme to reduce back strain for serving officers. The vest had some success in this regard, but rapidly developed a demand both as a preventative method and as an efficient and reliable alternative to the standard belt order of the time. Wider utilisation led to the company doing its first work in high visibility items. The company now holds numerous tenders in this area, attracting the usual cohort of less effective imitators.

This jacket boasts the newest technologies in waterproofing. The Proline breathable liner provides lightweight waterproofing with minimal effect on the heat dynamics of the smock. The configuration of the continuous storm hood to storm flap provides high neck protection. The ingenuity of this idea has been copied by many companies, but none have yet matched the original design of this Arktis garment.

This lightweight, tight fitting shirt offers a great option to go under a smock, with para midline zips, woollen cuffs and side zips for ventilation, you can adjust your heat loss and recover items from the pockets with ease. This is our topof-the-range item. Trialled in many conditions it comes with the best credentials.

The Antarctica Shirt is a lightweight, simple but effective piece of equipment that is a must have in the colder climates. It is produced using a Wool/Polyester 73/27% mix that provides a degree of warm when wet qualities. It is cut with a long tail to suit active use, and with thumb cuffs to prevent the sleeves from riding up. A Flame Retardant version can also be provided in Olive Green (D192).

The Avenger System is fully waterproof and comes with an integral lightweight fleece lining. The Black version has covert/overt pocket flaps for Force identification, plus numerous secret pockets. A simple drawstring/elastic-topped trouser is provided. The fabric is silent. Not based on the military-styled smocks, the Avenger is designed to be less aggressive in appearance, and is an economy product that performs very well. The pocket designs are proprietary. Some unauthorised copies of these are in the marketplace. The Grey Avenger is designed to have the weatherproof function of the Black Avenger, but allows for a civilian appearance.

Two jackets that connect together to form a water and WINDPROOF solution to any forces deploying personnel on to the ground for prolonged periods of time. The outer is 50/50 ripstop with a Proline waterproof dropliner. When worn as an inner element, allows the outer clothing or utility vest to get wet in soaking conditions, but the user remains dry because of the Rainshield and has the advantage of being able to use the appointments as planned. Highly breathable, it is comfortable in warm conditions. Packs away effectively and can be used as an outer when necessary. Available in Black and in a high visibility version.

Because it completely cuts out windchill, the Stowaway allows the wearer to remain warm, even if wet. It solves the problem for any failing kit, particularly in cold conditions. It compacts into a fist-sized bag and so can be carried readily. Some users even keep it on their keychains!

Can be used as an interactive garment with our Avenger Jacket or may be used as a stand alone garment ideal for specialist units. How to take care of your professional products
COTTON/POLYESTER RIPSTOP GARMENTS
These items utilise a waterproof/breathable internal dropliner with a water repellent outer fabric. For care, just be sensible. These garments will stand up to the elements, but human ingenuity combined with the chemicals that are used in commercial laundries has been known to do damage. Really heavily crusted dirt can have a wicking effect, and reduce the waterproof performance. You can machine wash these garments safely using light detergents. After a couple of years you can enhance the inner dropliner by ironing the outer garment with a hot iron. You can also restore the water repellency of the outer by using the correct NIKWAX or similar product - spray on applications work best in this regard as wash-in applications can affect the breathable performance. Generally, when drying the garment, remember that the garment is waterproof not flameproof and dont set the dryer on a maximum temperature.

HIGH VISIBILITY MATERIALS

The standards of visibility were designed and developed by a bunch of people who seemingly were not employed to worry about what would happen to the high visibility performance after the garments have been worn in working conditions for months on end. High visibility fabrics - unless heavily coated in a non breathable process - take on dirt very easily. Dirt can be removed by long-cycle washing and the use of a cloth (not too much abrasion). Oil stains require patience, and may need a couple of repeats of the same process. Our fabrics are treated with a process that makes it difficult for the oil to stick to the fabric, but this process does not cover all eventualities. The reflective tapes used on high visibility suffer from abrasion unless coated. We advise that REFLEXITE reflective tape be used, but it does affect the price.

WATERPROOF NYLON GARMENTS

Most technical finishes are achieved by heating processes. Very high temperatures can alter performance. There were some people in a prison laundry who did manage - once - to boil the high level characteristics out of a batch of jackets we had supplied to a team of prison guards, so it is definitely possible to ensure that the warden gets wet! Normal treatment, however, allows for plenty of abuse of these products.

WEBBING MATERIALS
Most of these are supplied in IRR camouflage. Do be aware that the IRR properties are affected as soon as dirt accumulates - because dirt has IR characteristics of its own. If you want to clean your webbing, soapy water and a light scrubbing brush will do the trick.
