Vision: Prepare life-long learners, leaders, and global citizens
Major Concepts/Content: Digital Media prepares students for careers in the IT industry. The course sequence focuses on duties and tasks performed by professionals developing interactive multimedia as well as pre-employment and employment skills. Major Concepts/Content: Digital Media Creation (DMC) provides students with the opportunity to develop professional-level skills in multimedia using Adobe Flash. This product-oriented course introduces the student to interactive multimedia presentations. Hands-on activities are used as students develop skills, master techniques, and prepare products for a client-based environment. Students learn to create professional digital media creations using animation, sound, and videos. The course also introduces students to document construction for publishing on the World Wide Web using authoring software. Units of instruction include design and layout, font selection, image editing, and digital cameras and images. Internet research and copyright laws are emphasized. Major Instructional Activities: Individualized instruction and online resources will be provided in a lab environment. Students successfully completing this course may be eligible to take the Adobe associate level certification exam. Major Evaluative Techniques: Assessment will include checking on-going student work to ensure students adhere to course timelines and assignment completion. In addition, assessment may include tests, projects or other means deemed appropriate.

DoDEA Grading Scale: Grading Policy: Students grades are computed on a total points basis. All assignments are added together and the total points available are divided by the total points earned to receive a percentage value. The worth of any assignment can be determined by the number of points it is worth. 90 100 = A 80 89 = B 70 79 = C 60 69 = D 59 or Below = F

Students EARN grades in this class; they are not given to you. Assignment Policy: Students are responsible for completing their assignments on time. 1. All assignments must be labeled with the students full name, class period, and class 2. NO LATE WORK IS ACCEPTED! Exceptions can be made, but students must: a. Meet with me at least 1 day prior to the due date of the assignment. b. Present a plan in writing to make up the late work. c. Both of us have to sign and agree to the plan. d. Signed plan must be turned in with the late work. e. Reasonable attempt to complete the assignment must have been made. f. No long term projects will be given an extension. 3. Students will be given two late passes per quarter. These passes must be attached to the assignment that they are turning in late. If a student is using a pass, they are still required to turn in the plan on turning in their assignment with the assignment. These passes may not be used on major assignments.

4. If your grade drops to a C, I will send an email note to your parents/sponsor. If you choose to not complete your work, I will work with your parents/sponsor to find a system to ensure they are informed about your progress. 5. Open Lab Wednesdays, the computer lab will be open for make-up time and using the computers for class work from 2:45 5:00 pm. Students need to inform me of their need to stay after so I dont make other plans. If students are not here by 2:45 I cannot guarantee that I will stay. 6. Tutoring I am available by appointment before school, during lunch, and after school to provide help. Please take advantage of my help. Ms. Lewiss Class Web Sites I maintain a classroom web site, http://lewis.sigmhs.mdso.eportalnow.net/ , and the password is jaguars. Through this web site students and parents have the ability to download a calendar of major assignments, PowerPoints, Assignments on Google Docs, worksheets given during class, and other helpful information. Students will need to familiarize themselves with the web site, as they will be required: visit the site; review readings, power points, and videos; turn in assignments through my web site; and participate in class blogs/forums. Students can use the school computers in the library, during after school study hall, during open lab time on Wednesday and during seminar time. Absences: Students are responsible for completing absent work within the same number of days they were absent. Assignments not completed in this time will result in a zero. Students must make arrangements with the teacher to take tests and quizzes missed within 1 day of returning to school. Pre-Arranged Absences - The following steps must be completed at least three school days prior to departure: o Step 1: Student obtains assignments and signatures from their teachers for the period of their absence. o Step 2: Student and sponsor/parent sign the pre-arranged absence form indicating they are aware of teacher comments and the work that must be completed. o Step 3: Pre-arranged absence form must be taken to the main office for administrator approval. The student retains the assignment section of the form page two. o Step 4: Student should submit completed work as agreed with teachers.

It is the students responsibility to make arrangements for makeup work. It is not acceptable to ask another student what you have missed while absent.
Extra Credit: Extra assignments to get extra credit will not be given. Students may earn extra credit by doing current assignments beyond the standard. Vision: Prepare life-long learners, leaders, and global citizens Plagiarism/Cheating Plagiarism or cheating in any form (copy and paste from the internet, copying another students work, etc.) will result in a zero on the particular assignment for ALL PARTIES INVOLVED, a phone call home with the student either during lunch or after school, and the student to make up the assignment with no credit being given after school on Wednesdays. Ms. Lewis Class Procedures A. Note from the Instructor As a teacher, I will have an efficient and smooth running classroom. To achieve this I have established a few simple procedures. As a student, it is your responsibility to learn and perform these procedures. Through these procedures, I promise to you a more organized and effective learning experience. B. Most Common Procedures 1. Entering the Classroom You will enter the classroom in an orderly fashion. Upon entering, you should complete any tasks you need to around the room immediately (sharpen pencil, staple papers, get tissue, etc.). Once seated, check the front board for the day's bell work. All students are expected to be in their assigned seats and working on the bell work within a minute of entering the classroom. 2. Coming to Attention When I need the classs attention, I will raise my hand and count from five to one on my hand. When you see this you are expected to stop your conversation, look at me, and raise your hand before I reach one. This is only complete when all hands are up, all eyes are on me, and the class is quiet. 3. Multiple Classes One Classroom During every class period I have more than one class going on. It is expected that all students remain silent while directions are given to each class. 4. Digital Portfolio Students will maintain a digital portfolio for this class through Weebly. Students will have access to computers in class, during seminar, through the library, and during open lab time on Wednesday. 5. Food and Drinks All food and drinks must be left outside the classroom or within a students backpack. No food or drink should be open in the classroom once the student has come in the class. 6. Correcting Assignments Any assignment, project and test a student earns a 60% or less on may be corrected for a higher grade. All corrections are due the Friday after it is returned and MUST include a two paragraph essay explaining what the student could have done to improve their grade and an action plan for how the student will avoid this problem on future assignments. Assignments that can be corrected will have Please Correct and Return date stamped on them by the teacher.

7. Group Work You will participate in many group activities and work with many different people in this class. The group procedures are: a. You are responsible for the results of the group and your own participation. b. If you have a question, try to find the answer by reading through your project description or asking anther group before asking the teacher for help. c. You will be responsible for honestly evaluating how everyone in your group performed, including yourself. d. Any group issues must be brought to the teachers attention at least two class periods before the project is due, so a resolution can be reached. e. It is possible to be removed from a group if you are not completing your parts. f. If a student is not helping in an equitable manner while working with a group or partner the student will not receive the same credit. 8. Bathroom/Water Breaks Students are provided with breaks throughout the day for using the restroom and getting water, please use these times wisely. Students may use their 2 passes to leave class and visit the restroom. Please wait until the time is appropriate to ask to leave the room, which would be when the teacher has finished a discussion. Students must sign out and take a pass when leaving the room for any reason. 9. Leaving the Classroom I dismiss the class. I will tell you when it is time to clean and pack up. Once you have finished cleaning up, please stay seated until I dismiss you to your next class.

School Electronic Device Policy Cell Phones, iPODS, Headphones and other Electronic Devices: These devices must be turned off and secured out of view unless being used for educational work under the direction of a teacher. Otherwise, they must remain secured (put away and out of view) and turned off. The school is not responsible for lost or stolen devices. Minimum Verbal corrections by staff to put the item away. Maximum Item will be confiscated and held by the administration for parent pickup. Referral for detention and/or other disciplinary consequences for repeat offenses. Ms. Lewiss Electronic Device Policy Class procedures for electronic devices:

Students are not permitted to have any personal technology out from the moment they walk in the room until they leave the room. The only exceptions will be headphones when classes are working on projects that require sound or if a student is having a difficult time getting files to move to our server and they need my help to do so. When asked to put electronic devices away, students are expected to follow the directions immediately. The school and teacher are not responsible for lost, stolen or damage to the electronic devices. Students are responsible for understanding the school and class policy for electronic devices and following the policy outside of this class (i.e. students may not take out their electronic device in other classes or the hallway).

Leave all book bags outside of the classroom either in the hallway or in the lockers. Push chair in, throw away all garbage, put equipment away properly, and leave in an orderly manner. Sign out all equipment and get permission prior to using anything. Never enter the television studio area without permission from the teacher.
