Ewon Basic Remote Access Instructions. This document will guide you through a step-by-step set-up to provide a basic, secure VPN connection using the eWON. The device that will be used is the eWON 4005CD/Ethernet as the VPN client router that will allow remote access of your networked devices; however, this guide can also be applied to the eWON 2005 series.

Step 1a: Download and Install the Talk2M ecatcher software in your computer that will be used to remotely access the Ewon. Link to download the software http://www.talk2m.com/

Step 1b: Click on the free+ account and register for a free Talk2M account. There is also a professional version of the Talk2M that will provide more options and management; however, this guide will focus on the basic remote set-up.

Step 1c: A prompt to register for an account will pop-up. You may have multiple users within one Account name. The first user of the account will have admin rights. The administrator can add/ remove users; since this is a Free+ account, only ONE user can connect to ONE EWON at a time and the user added can see all the eWON devices. You cannot partition each user to specific eWON device in Free+. Note: The Account name, Username and Password are case sensitive.

Step 1d: Once the account is registered, Log in by opening the Talk2M eCatcher software and filling out the Username, Password and Account.

Step 2a: Once logged in. Click on the plus symbol in the eWON list to add an eWON.

Step 2b: Write down a name for the eWON you are planning to connect to and an optional short description. Also, select the connection type the eWON will be sending data through For basic set up, the connection we will establish is LAN/DSL. Choose this option and once finished click Next.

Step 2c: A set of custom fields will appear. Here you can add more notes for the particular eWON you are adding. You can leave this page blank and click Finish.

Step 3c: Once you are in eWON Setup, there are three different types of registration information you can gather. Look at the configure via Activation Key option at the center of the three. The activation key is very long. You can copy this by clicking on the copy icon. After copying, you can either paste the information into a word or notepad. Click on the Back button to revert back to the eWON set-up.

Step 4a: Click the Edit Button. Here you can edit the information of the EWON you are planning to connect to.

Step 4b: Fill Out the information to Identify the Device. You will be using these setting as a reference so that the eWON and eCatcher will connect properly. The eWON name is Case Sensitive. For now, choose the LAN/ADSL option to indicate the connection is through the WAN port. Also, make sure the intended IP address and Network Mask (Subnet Mask) of the eWON is part the Subnet of the Devices on the LAN ports of the eWON. Do not worry about the Serial Number. This should populate on its own once the connection is established. DO NOT FORGET TO HIT SAVE WHEN FINISHED.

Rev 1C

Step 4c: Also, note that the subnet of the eWONs LAN IP should not be the same as the subnet of the LAN of the network you are accessing the eWON from. This can cause IP addressing conflicts and may result in having inability to access the eWON remotely. In this particular case, I changed the subnet to 192.168.99.0/24 where the IP address of the eWON LAN is 192.168.99.150 to reduce the possibility of having ip addressing con-

Step 5.1a: Connect to the LAN side of the eWON and open a web browser, preferably use Internet Explorer to ensure compatibility. Type in the IP address of the eWON and Log-in (Default: 10.0.0.53, username/password: adm/adm). Note: Make sure you are within the same subnet of the eWON. Change your computers IP address to 10.0.0.X and subnet mask 255.255.255.0 where X = 1 to 254 but not 53.

Step 5.1b: Once logged in, click on the the Configuration Box then the Wizard Icon.

Step 5.1c: Click on the Configure Internet Connection Icon. Connect the eWON to the Enterprise Network or Internet Modem via WAN port of the eWON. Choose the Ethernet WAN connection and click on the initialize configuration first box. Then click Next.

Step 5.1d: Depending on how the Network settings of the Enterprise network configure the addressing configuration of the eWON. You do not need to have a static address for the eWON to function. It just has to be coherent with the networking addressing and subnet of the Enterprise Network. You can determine the connection type by finding out how your computer is connected on the network. In this case, it is DHCP, where the router/ switch of the enterprise network assigns the IP address automatically to devices connected to it.

Step 5.2a: Select Modem Connection as the Internet connection type. Wait approximately 1 to 2 minutes to allow the modem to initiate and press next. If there is a notification regarding the modem not being on yet, press back, wait a moment, then press next.

Step 5.2b: Depending on the Cellular provider, fill out the required credentials in order to allow the eWON VPN Router to be part of the network. The credentials should be provided to you by your Cellular Provider.

Step 5.2c: Select how you would like to have the cellular modem to behave. There are three options,: Trigger by outgoing actions will enable the eWON to initiate Cellular connection once a triggered event such as FTP transfer, eMAIL occurs within the eWON, Maintain connection will cause the cellular modem to enable the whole time the eWON is on, Triggered by phone call or outgoing actions, is used

Step 5.2d: Depending on connection type selected, configure the time outs and other time based properties. There are a default setting in place for these timing. You can leave them alone and press next until Test Internet connection.

Step 5.3a: Click on the Test Online address box and test the network. At default settings the eWON will only allow access on the LAN network once the VPN is established except for email and sms protocols.

Step 5.3b: The eWON will undergo some checks to determine if the WAN side of the eWON is configured properly and can attain Internet connection. Once successful click Done. Otherwise you may have to go back and change settings to match the network correctly or check if the internet exist by using your computer to connect directly to the Enterprise network and see if you can go online. (dont forget to change your IP settings back to the Enterprise Network settings.

Step 6a. Once done with the WAN set-up, configure the LAN settings by the IP address you want the eWONs LAN to be set to. This will be your gateway between the LAN and WAN of the E-won. Keep note of it. You will be needing this when configuring other devices on the network. This is also the IP address you assigned in eCather when adding an eWON.

Step6b: Click System Setup on second button on the top left of the web console then Communication. This will lead you to the Communications tabs where you can configure the eWON communication settings for bot WAN, LAN and VPN. Click on the Ethernet Tab then Eth1-LAN tab. From here you can change the IP address of the LAN side of the eWON. Change the IP address to the IP ad-

Step6c: A connection correctly updated message should appear after clicking on update. Reboot to the eWON and go back to the web browser box and type the new address in. The username/ password prompt should appear again (adm/adm is default)

Step 7c: A connection test and registration process will start to run. I have a eWON serial number already defined notification because I had the device set-up already when I ran the test. First time configuration should not have the notification. Click done and restart eWON

Step 7d. Log back into eCatcher and the status of the eWON should change from Offline to Online. Click on the device to select and then click on connect. A VPN process prompt will appear and try to set-up and establish a connection. Once a successful connection is established, the eWON will appear on the active connections list. The eWON is now configured to provide remote access. Use the IP address of the eWON as the Gateway IP address of all the devices on eWONs LAN ports to allow data of those devices to go 17
