Often referred to as The Bards Play or The Scottish Play in theater communities, the superstitions range from bad luck to uncanny accidents. As I was heading to the University plaza, I was literally "taken up" by a mass of revolting people mainly in their twenties. I never imagined that events that were about to come and change the political map of Europe, and my part of the world. In December 1989, I was one of the many active participants in the bloodiest Romanian Revolution that lead to the removal of the Dictator Nicolae Ceausescu. I would like to present you aspects of life behind the Iron Curtain from the inside and give you a better understanding how an oppressive political regime can't overcome dreams, hope, and ideals. Today, Romania, as part of the EU, is trying to find its way to a democratic system, but post- communist legacy, such as corruption and cronyism, are making this transition difficult. Hoping for a brighter future, I wish to see my native country taking its proper steps toward a legal system in which Europe and the World can have more confidence.
