be held liable for any damages that are a direct or indirect result of information contained by this guide. Atrica equipment uses electronic components that are sensitive to static electricity. Electrostatic discharge (ESD) from your clothing or other items around you, even at levels that do not create a spark, can cause damage. You should take all possible precautions to prevent ESD damage when working with printed circuit boards. Keep each board in its protective conductive bay until you are ready to install it. Before you touch a printed circuit board, be sure to put on a grounded antistatic wrist strap and leash to free yourself of static. Then place each printed circuit board on a grounded antistatic mat while config-setting its configuration. If you lack a grounded antistatic wrist strap, leash, and mat, be careful to stand in one place when you work (so you do not generate static electricity by friction), free yourself of static by touching a grounded metal object before handling a printed circuit board, and place the board on its protective conductive bay while you check or config-set its configuration.

There are four possible methods for managing the A-2000 in a network. Each method of management requires you to configure relevant IP parameters of the A-2000 so that it can be managed on the network. These methods are called: 1. Sideband Management 2. Out-band Management 3. In-band Management 4. Console Port Management The first method configures one of the access ports so that management traffic is redirect through this configured port. This method is called: Sideband Management and is not supported in the field by Atrica and will therefore not be used in class. Using the second method you manage a specific A-2000 device through the OutBand port (a.k.a Host Port) located on the front panel. The third management method is called In-band management. Using In-band management, a Loopback address is assigned to the A-2000, and it is managed through the network via its Network ports attached to an IFC port contained within a Core device chassis.

Step 10: After step 9 is executed and the system completes its reset process as evidenced by the sequence of power-up messages appearing on your display. Log back into

the system as <root>. Type the following commands to verify that A-2000 has return to its factory default: < show interface loopback info >. Next physical connect your teams portion the classroom network supplied by your instructor. Normally your instructor will either give you a sheet of paper which containing the classroom network or he/she will draw this network on the classrooms white board and direct your attention to this drawing.

17

LB31008-AE

In the cases of Out-of-Band or Inband management before the A-2000 device can communicate with the external world, hence be managed by ASPEN, the Console port must be used to initially configure the A-2000 with its required IP parameters. The required initial IP parameters that must configured are: 1. IP Address (Host-Port or Loopback) 2. Subnetmask 3. Default_gateway: 4. SNMP Community Strings In this lab we will configure the A-2000 for In-band management, since this is the most common management method used in the field.

LB31008-AE

18

CONFIDENTIAL

Step 11: Look on the network diagram and configure the A-2000 Loopback Address(s) assigned to your lab groups A-2000 devices with the correct (if you are not sure what address have been assigned to your groups devices check with your instructor) IP Address Subnet mask Default gateway Snmp community strings Use the following command line to perform this action: < Config-set interface loopback ip xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx > x=values observed on network diagram Note: The values for the A-2000 s four IP parameters listed in step 11 must be configured the using the config-set command to properly communicate on the network, which you physically setup and cabled during step 10. Your instructor should have given you a network diagram representing the classroom network prior to beginning lab one. The instructor should also have assigned your lab group a specific section of the network to build. Contact your instructor if you did not receive a network diagram.

19

LB31008-AE

LB31008-AE

CONFIDENTIAL

Step 14: < config-set snmp-server contact xxxxxxxxx < config-set snmp-server location xxxxxx xxxxxxxxx = name and location for the contact person and location of the A-2000 device. You should repeat steps 11 14 for every 2000 network device, which has been assigned to your lab group. The ASPEN network management platform can now be used to manage the network. Now we want to make sure that as a technical person who maybe performing OAM&P on the Atrica you will have had the opportunity to analyze the full power up sequence associated with the A-2000. In order to familiarize yourself with this sequence perform the steps beginning on the next page.

Step 16: The ability to add and remove users is an important tool for the NOC center personnel. Some times the various users need to have different levels of access privileges. The commands illustrated in the next few steps will show you how add and remove users with different levels of access. While logged into the CLI as root type the following command: <Config-set username [xxxxxxxx] privilege [read-only/readwrite/admin] password [xxxxxxxx]> Add a new users to your system called TeamX, with a password config-set to TeamX, with a privilege level config-set to admin. (Remember typing a question mark after any command will prompt you, with the next possible command options.) Note: In creating user TeamX; X = your assigned lab group number.

Step 17: Now logout of the system as the root user and login as the user you created. Now that you have been shown an example for adding users try adding users for each member of your lab group. Give one of the users you add an privilege_level of read-only, and create another user with a privilege_level of read-write. Were you successful in adding these users? ____________ Use the show command to verify that you have actual added users. Step 18: Logout out of the A-2000 as administrator. Now log back into the A-2000 as one of your read-only user. After you login try adding an additional users. Were you successful in adding the new users? If you were unsuccessful in adding the new user, why? _______________________________ Step 19: While still logged in as the read-write users created in step 17, type a question mark. Is the available command list different now when compared to when you were logged in as admin? ______________________________________________

Lab Procedure Configure Edge Groups Step 1:

Defining Edge Group Virtual Interfaces Before we can successfully manage rings of A-2000 devices, whether Dual Attached or Dual Homed to A-8X00/4100/A-4000 interfaces, we must define special virtual entities called Edge Groups. Configuring Edge Groups allow A2000 edge devices to: Have their Network ports connected to two different physical interfaces of a Core device. The Core device interfaces will share the same IP address. You will find this type interface connectivity in a Dual Attached topology. Have their Network ports connected to different physical interfaces on different Core devices. The Core device interfaces will have different IP addresses in the same subnet. You will find this type interface connectivity in a Dual Homed topology. Use a special modified RIP packet to help facilitate management traffic flow between A-2000 and A-8X00/4100/A-4000 interfaces during periods of interface or link failure.

To verify and define Edge Groups, enter the following CLI command at the command prompt of the A-8100(s) that attached direct to the A-2000(s) in our network:. Verify whether or not any Edge Groups are currently configured on your lap teams A-8X00/4100/A-4000 by entering the following command at the command prompt: < show interface ethernet XX/* edge-group > < show interface edge-group * ip info > < config-set interface ethernet XX/PP edge-group X XX/PP = IFC Slot/Port; X = Edge Group Number < config-set interface edge-group XX ip address/subnet mask > XX = Edge Group Number The screen capture above depicts an example of using the edge group command.

Add Physical Port to Virtual Edge Groups The command below will be used to assign a specific IFC port to a predefined Edge Group number. Console> < config-set interface ethernet XX/PP edge-group X XX/PP = IFC Slot/Port; X = Edge Group Number At this time look at the network diagram and define the required edge groups interface connection points for your teams A-8100. Introduction To ASPEN
ASPEN consists of a number of components, including the ASPEN Application Server (AS), Backend Server (BES), Database (DB), Element Manager web server (EM), and GUI, as well as the OSS Server and the OSS, CNM, and SPM Northbound clients. Installation of these components depends on the package you have purchased and the configuration of the network management environment. The AS, BES, DB, EM, and OSS Server can only be installed on Solaris machines. The OSS client can only be installed on a Windows computer. The GUI, CNM client, and SPM client can be installed either on a Solaris station or a Windows computer. This chapter provides information about installing and uninstalling ASPEN and its components, and contains the following sections: Contents of the Installation CD-ROMs Installing the ASPEN Engine and GUI on a Solaris Station

Updating ASPEN Network Manager Software Quitting the Installation Process

Solaris Installation General Information

Atrica provides two types of installations for ASPEN: Typical There are two types of typical installations: Full Used when all the ASPEN Network Manager server components are to be installed on a single UNIX station. Engine Used to install the ASPEN database, Backend Server (BES), Application Server (AS), and the Element Managers on a single UNIX station Custom Used when the ASPEN Network Manager software is to be distributed over more than one station. The recommended distribution of ASPEN components for networks with fewer than 1500 devices is: Database, Application, and Backend Servers on one UNIX station, a backup Backend Server on a second UNIX station, and the ASPEN Manager GUI on a Windows 2000/XP computer. Both Full and Custom installation perform the following tasks: Install the selected components into an installation directory Link the installation directory to /opt/atrica Create new ASPEN database files for database installation. Set ASPEN database and Application Server IP addresses, including redundancy settings Initialize the ASPEN environment The complete ASPEN Network Manager can be installed on SUN Solaris 8/9 systems. The ASPEN Network Manager Graphic User Interface (GUI) however, can be installed on either SUN Solaris 8/9 or Windows NT 4/2000/XP. If the Backend Server and the database are installed on the same UNIX station, the Backend Server automatically performs a backup of the database once a day. If the Backend Server and the database are installed on separate UNIX stations, perform the database backup manually.
