ABOUT THE SPEAKERS:

Mark Skogen is the third generation of Skogen grocers. Marks grandfather, Paul Skogen, opened his first grocery store in Onalaska, WI, in 1946. Dave Skogen, Marks father, grew the small chain of IGA stores in the 70s and 80s and then introduced the family business to the large-grocery format of Festival Foods in 1990. Mark joined the company full-time after graduating from Viterbo University in 1992 and became President and CEO in 2006. Through Marks leadership, Skogens Festival Foods has grown to 18 stores statewide and today serves the communities of Green Bay, Bellevue, De Pere, Suamico, Manitowoc, Sheboygan, Kenosha, Appleton (2), Neenah, Oshkosh, Fond du Lac, Marshfield, Eau Claire, La Crosse (2), Holmen, and Onalaska. Mark attributes the companys continued success to the more than 4,500 associates, all of whom are committed to the companys Boomerang Theory which guides everyday business decisions by answering the question Will it bring the customer back?. In addition to leading Festival Foods, Mark serves on several boards of directors, including Green Bay Packers, University of Wisconsin-Green Bay Foundation, Greater Green Bay Community Foundation, and Boys and Girls Club of Green Bay. Kim Reese, MBA joined Festival Foods as the first VP-Human Resources in early 2011. Festival was growing and knew it needed to continue to live and breathe part of the mission statement of developing a team of associates, and part of the vision statement of being the best place to work. They knew the HR department needed strategic leadership, coupled with an external perspective and retail experience, to lead the way on the people side of the business. Through Kims leadership, the Human Resource team has been completely reconstructed to include functional areas of expertise: Employee Relations, Recruiting, Benefits, Compensation, HRIS, Organizational Development, and Training. The department now offers opportunity for both associate development and succession planning. Prior to Festival Foods, Kim led teams in Operations and Human Resources at Caesars Entertainment (previously Harrahs Entertainment), Kohler Company, and Great Wolf Resorts. In addition, Kim was the President and owner of HR Executive Solutions, a US based executive search firm. Kim serves on the Board of Directors for the Girl Scouts of Northwest Great Lakes (GSNWGL), and is involved in the Womens Fund of Greater Green Bay, Servant Leadership Group of Wisconsin, the Economic Empowerment Collaboration (Fox Cities), and various educational development groups.
