APPENDIX B PARAMETRIC CATALOGUE OF EARTHQUAKES

B.1. Notes on Parametri Ta!"e The catalogue lists all selected earthquakes in our region from the beginning of instrumental recording in 18 8 to the end of 1 !" In general the focal #arameters are gi$en %ith a #recision that reflects the qualit& of their determination" These notes should be read carefull& before consulting the catalogue" B.1.1. Origin 'ollo%ing the date( the origin time of each e$ent is gi$en in )ni$ersal Time to an a##ro#riate #recision( in hours( minutes and seconds" 'or some earl& e$ents( #articularl& those determined from felt information onl&( the time is gi$en onl& to the nearest minute( hour or e$en da&" 'or man& recent earthquakes agencies re#ort origin times to a decimal of a second" These ha$e been rounded" An asterisk follo%ing the date signifies that the e$ent is a foreshock or aftershock" The e#icentre is gi$en in degrees of north latitude and %est longitude" *ost e#icentres are gi$en %ith a #recision of +"1,( but for better determined e$ents a #recision of +"+1, is gi$en" In the middle and earl& #eriods this is usuall& reser$ed for e#icentres that are e-ce#tionall& %ell determined b& closel& s#aced isoseismals" At the other e-treme( some #oorl& determined e#icentres are listed onl& to the nearest degree" No figures are gi$en that are not considered significant" A consequence of this is that #ositions gi$en in original sources as ., or /, are rounded to "0, or "8, res#ecti$el&" De#ths gi$en as close to the standard default $alue of 00 km( or for %hich there is no s#ecific information( are listed as n" If there is definite indication of u##er crustal or shallo%er de#th( the designation is s" )ns#ecified or #oorl& determined subcrustal and intermediate de#ths are gi$en as n+ and i, res#ecti$el&1 s usuall& signifies a de#th less than 12 km( n+ a de#th bet%een 3! and 2+ km( and i one of more than 2+ km" 4tandard default de#ths 5such as "+16 or 2 km used b& I447 are rounded to the nearest ! or 1+ km" De#ths found b& modern com#uter relocations to be greater than normal ma& be gi$en to the nearest kilometre( as determined" B.1.#.
