Section 11 : Exercises

Section 11 : Exercises

This section has the exercises to complete for assignment 1 (see appendix Section 12). For all exercises you will have to create: -3D model, -2D drawing with all dimension and highlight all detail, work in .drw and .pdf format. For the assignment 1 you will have to create: -On-line diary (see appendix Section 12) -Report (see appendix Section 12) Exercise 1 Draw a 3D model of the mechanical component, shown in figure 11.1.

Figure 11.1 Exercise one

Hints: to sketch the base of the model, you can follow the instructions given in Example 0 in section2, but in this case, you will have to draw three circles rather than two as shown in figure 11.2.

Hint: In the 2D model need to show all dimension of the component with different projection view also with section view if you retain necessary to highlight all dimension and details. Exercise 2 Draw a 3D model of the mechanical component shown in figure 11.4. The dimensions are in millimeters.

Figure 11.4 Part

Draw a sketch of the appropriate surface of the component and then extrude to create most of the 3D model. In the 2D drawing need to highlight dimensions and details of the component.

Figure 11.7 shows the dimensions of the gear tooth.

Figure 11.7 Tooth

When you sketch a tooth, the first step is sketch a centerline, then with the "line" feature draw a isosceles trapezoid, to set the inclination of the sides, use the features Smart dimension, click two sides the inclined line and horizontal line, it will obtain the angle between two lines. Use Linear pattern/ Circular Pattern to create all gear teeth from one single tooth. To do this select the cylinder face, input 360 for the angle, set the pattern number to pattern 22, and under features to pattern, select the tooth, as shown in figure 11.8.

Exercise 4

Draw the component shown in figure 11.9.

For the holes, use the feature Hole Wizard, analysed in the section 6. Screws properties are: Hole type: Counterbore Standard: Ansi Metric Type: Hex Bolt and ANSI B18.2.3 5M Size: M4 Fit: Normal Dimensions are in millimeters and are shown in figure 11.10.

To insert an inclination plane, follow instructions in section 3, sub-section 3.5. In this model you can use the feature Ribs. First insert a working plane in the middle of model, then draw two lines, as shown in figure 11.11, and use the feature Ribs.

Figure 11.14 Dimension

The first step is to sketch a circle in the frontal plane, with dimension 76.2 mm. Following this, extrude for 2.032 mm, then sketch another circle with radius 7.62 mm, then extrude for 38.1 mm. Sketch a profile of the blade by sketching two circles whose centre coordinates and diameters are shown in figure 11.15-16.

Figure 11.20 Sketch

Remember that a sketch must be closes to be extruded. Then use the feature Loft, explained in section 7, and select the two sketches that you designed. Now use the feature Circular Pattern, the axis is the cylinder with radius 7.62 mm, with angle 360 , and set the number of patterns to 12. Then extrude the shaft for 2 mm, and use the features to create a 2 mm fillet.

Hint: The figure 11.14 does not show a complete 2D drawing to submit in the assignment, remember to use the feature section view and highlight detail.
