DETERMINATION OF DENSITY OF A LIQUID

I.

INTRODUCTION The density of a material is its mass per unit volume. Different materials have different densities. Less dense fluids float above denser fluids if they do not mix. Waters density is 1 g/ml. If a fluids density is lesser than water will float while fluids that have a greater density than water while sink. Density may change if the temperature or pressure of a material will be changed.

DATA ANALYSIS

II.

OBJECTIVES 1. To be able to calculate the density of the given unknown liquids. 2. To identify the unknown liquids by their calculated density.

Table 1 shows the data we have gathered in the laboratory. We have solved the 3 unknown liquids density. In order to do so, we gathered their masses and volumes then solved for their densities by dividing a liquids mass to its volume. Table 2 compares the unknown liquids density that we have solved to its theoretical density and solved for its percentage error. VII. CONCLUSIONS

IV.

METHODOLOGY 1. Weigh the empty Graduated Cylinder. 2. Carefully fill the empty Graduated Cylinder to your desired neck-level with an unknown liquid. 3. Weigh the Graduated Cylinder with the unknown liquid in it. 4. Read and record the Volume of the unknown liquid. 5. Do step 1 to step 4 with the remaining unknown liquids.

We have solved for an unknown liquids density by dividing its mass to its volume. All materials have their own different densities. We also have identified the unknown liquids to be Dishwashing Soap, Glycerin and Motor Oil by comparing their theoretical density to our calculated density. VIII. REFERENCES
