General

The external music is a series of assemblies purchased externally which are used to broadcast music, customised announcements, etc. They may be used as music on hold or waiting music on a set and in internal applications such as the automated attendant, routing to guide or A.C.D. There are two technologies according to requirements (length of recordings, whether or not the messages are saved, recording flexibility, etc.): - magnetic musical camp-on (cassettes, magnetic cartridges), - static musical camp-on (static, CMOS or dynamic memories). A customised announcement may be played from the start (the MF Q23 D digit must be entered during the recording and decoded). There are two ways of connecting to the PABX via the main distribution frame: - on the CPU, - on a piece of analogue line equipment belonging to an ACT shelfs analogue interface (a maximum of 10 pieces of equipment may be used to connect external music).

Equipment required

The installation of external music requires: - an announcement broadcast device approved by Alcatel, - a two-pair cable for connecting the power supply and the low frequency, - a free access point (CPU or analog line equipment on an analogue interface board or ELA board behind US), Warning: only power up the external music device after the management has been carried out.

Connection

2.1. To CPU The PABXs CPU board has direct access for External music on hold (TR1 and TR2 wires in positions C9 and A9 respectively on the backpanel connector). The emission level must be adapted (0db gain on high impedance, the coder accepts 7dB dynamic on input (excursion from -2.5V to +2.5V) but only uses 3.14dB (-1.7V to 1.7 V)). The connector on the CPU boards backpanel is connected to the main distribution frame by a type 4 distribution cable. 2.2. To analogue board The connection varies according to the type of equipment. The impedance must be adapted according to each country (600 ohms input for FRANCE). The coder accepts 7dB dynamic on input (excursion from -2.5V to +2.5V) but only uses 3.14dB (-1.7V to 1.7 V) on analogue equipment input. There must also be a current loop on wires a and b (to enable the PABX to detect the presence of the peripheral device) and there must be a sufficient emission level (this varies according to the countries; 0 db for FRANCE). The adaptations are carried out using bridges or resistors. A capacitor may be used in certain cases to insulate the direct component (refer to the specifications on using the music source). The selection of the analog line equipment is left up to the technician. Particular case of tone 2: Tone 2 is reserved for the music on hold. If this tone is to be generated behind an analogue board, the analogue board must be positioned in ACT 0 and the tone will be broadcast in the other ACTs. This applies whatever the type of CPU.

The analogue equipment may be positioned in any ACT for the external music behind analogue interface associated with the other tones (171 to 180).

Edition: 03 This module describes the different parameters which must be set in the PABX management to commission the external music.

1. 1.1.

Waiting tone management (tone 2) Management for direct connection to CPU board

This connection concerns the CPU3, CPU5 step2 and CPU6 boards (no direct access to CPU5 step1). Check that the Waiting tone (tone number 2) has the correct tone generator number. Accessing the application Object name: System > Tone Select tone number 2. Parameters In the "Combined basic tone" heading, check that the values are correct (or modify them) to have: Attributes: Tone No. Tone Duration 1.2. : 31 for the standard tone generator number (which corresponds to the music connected to the CPU). : set the value 0.

Management for connection to analogue board

This connection concerns all the CPU boards: CPU3, CPU5 step 2and CPU 6 and it is vital in the case of the CPU5 step 1. There are 3 steps to be taken when connecting a voice guide as a waiting tone: a) delete tone 2, "System > Tone", b) create voice guide no 2: As of R1.5, the parameters to be managed are: Object name: System > Voice Guide Attributes: Voice Guide No. l Function : Enter 2 (music on hold guide number) : Select "Z Voice Guide".

Voice Guide Start

: Yes: the voice guide plays from the start of the message, No: the voice guide starts anywhere in the message.

Back Up Tone

: Indicate the number of the tone used if the guide does not function (announcement broadcasting device disconnected, for example).

Manage the following parameters in the "Equipment Address" heading: Shelf Board : Enter number 0 which corresponds to ACT 0 (mandatory) : Enter the position of the analogue interface in the ACT shelf: between 0 and 13 or 0 and 27 depending on the capacity of the ACT shelf. : Enter the position of the equipment in the interface: between 0 and 11 or 0 and 23 depending on the capacity of the analogue interface (Z_12 or Z_24).

Managing the music on hold on analogue board (tones 171 to 180)

The physical position of the analogue line equipment which generates the music on hold must be declared in the system. There are 10 guides which are dedicated to the music on hold (171 to 180). These guides may be used as waiting guides (waiting tone in Trunk Group ), greeting guides, ACD messages or guides for automated attendant. As of version 1.5 : Object name: System > Voice Guide Attributes: Voice Guide No. : Enter the guide identification number (171 to 180). Ten tone numbers are reserved for the messages broadcast via the analogue interfaces. : Select Z Voice Guide". : Yes: the voice guide plays from the start of the message, No: the voice guide starts anywhere in the message. Back Up Tone : Indicate the number of the tone used if the guide does not function.

External music on trunk groups

A trunk group may use external music as music on hold (Waiting guide for Call distribution trunk group, for example). As of R1.5, the waiting guide is managed in the entities. You must therefore know the entity number of the trunk group you want to modify. Object name: Entities Select the entity concerned then modify the heading: : Attributes: Waiting Guide : Enter the number of the message to be played back (tone number 171 to 180) which has already been created.

Note: The guide number on flash card may be used as a waiting guide.

CPU board connection

To check the operation of the music on hold: - establish an internal call, - make an enquiry call from one of the two sets, - check the playback of the music on hold on the other set. Readjust the telephones output level if necessary.

2.

Connection to analogue board

To check the operation of the music on hold: - select a trunk group which uses the external music for the playback, - from a set, make an external call on this trunk group to a nearby set, - make an enquiry call, - check the playback of the music on hold. Readjust the telephones output level if necessary. Nota: it is also possible to playback the tones from a set by entering the Tone test prefix (in the Local Facilities).
