FINDING G PENDULUM
Aim: to determine gravity using a pendulum as well as if the mass of the pendulum effects gravity. Hypothesis: it is hypothesised that mass will have no effect on the duration of the pendulums swing. Materials: - 6 washers - Piece of string (fishing line 42.5 cm) - Scissors - Stopwatch - Measuring tape - Tree branch Method: 1. Gather washers 2. Measure the appropriate length of string (42.5 cm) 3. Tie the string to an anchor point where it can swing without interruptions 4. Record the time it takes for a whole swing (21 swings) Results: 3 WASHERS TRY 1 TRY 2 TRY 3 TRY 4 TRY 5 TRY 6 TRY 7 TRY 8 TRY 9 TRY 10 TRY 11 TRY 12 TRY 13 TRY 14 TRY 15 TRY 16 TRY 17 TRY 18 TRY 19 TRY 20 TRY 21 TOTAL 6 WASHERS TIME 1.2 s 1.5 s 1.4 s 1.3 s 1.3 s 1.3 s 1.5 s 1.3 s 1.4 s 1.4 s 1.3 s 1.4 s 1.3 s 1.3 s 1.3 s 1.3 s 1.4 s 1.3 s 1.3 s 1.3 s 1.3 s 28.1 s TIME

This experiment was tested to find the periodicity of gravity by using a pendulum with 3-6 washers. Because we wanted the results to be as accurate as possible, we had to make sure the height we dropped the pendulum weight from was kept the same as well as keeping the same angle it was dropped from. All though it was a windy day, the strength of the fishing line and numerous heavy washers restricted the effects of air resistance but there were still a few interferences. Parts of the data might be inaccurate or misleading depending on the weather (in this case windy), the length of the string or any other disruptions because our pendulum was a tree branch, the washers or the fishing line may have been caught on another branch. If these occurrences didnt happen, the information we recorded could have been more precise. Conclusion: My hypothesis was slightly close to being correct, showing that three washers have longer oscillations compared to six washers though not by much. As stated earlier, this could be because of the variables. Furthermore, gravity is not effected by the mass of the pendulum.
