felt sick before taking a big test? Have you ever lost sleep at night because you were worrying about something? Have you ever had so much school work that it gave you a head ache? 3. I will explain to the students that if they answered yes to these questions then you know what stress feels like. I will go on to state that we very often hear adults complain about stress, but that kids can be stressed too. Being stressed is what you feel when you are worried or uncomfortable. All the worrying can make your body feel bad. You might lose sleep, not want to eat, and have aches in your muscles. 4. Next I will explain that there is good stress and bad stress. Good stress is the feeling you get before answering a question in front of the class. Its good because it will make you feel the pressure to answer correctly. Bad stress is a bad feeling that last over time and makes you upset often; parents fighting. 5. I will then ask the students if any of them has something to share with the group that causes stress on them. 6. Next I will read the book Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good Very Bad Day by Judith Viorist and illustrated by Ray Cruz. This story is about a boy going through a very stressful day, involving siblings and school, which most students can relate to. 7. Once I finish reading the book to the group I will I will continue to talk about stress and ways to help reduce its effects. I will tell the students that there are different ways to relieve stress; talking about your feelings with an adult, trying to find a solution to solve what is causing the stress, and physical exercise. You can also practice a relaxation exercise by inhaling and exhaling deeply and slowly. 8. Now is when I will introduce the main activity by telling the class that we are going to learn how to do a stress relieving exercise that will relax both our body and mind. 9. I will ask the class who has ever heard of yoga, which I will ask for a response by thumbs-up if they have. 10. I will explain to the group that yoga is an exercise that focuses on making your body and mind relax together at the same time. The word yoga means union which is another word for together; body and mind calm together. 11. I will ask the students to grab a lesson rug and spread out around the room so they have personal space and can still see me. I will place my yoga mat down in the front of the classroom and explain to the class that yoga requires silence and concentration to make your body and mind relax to relieve stress. 12. I will then teach the secret yoga word Namaste (nah-ma-stay) and the motioning that corresponds; hands placed together in front of chest and a small bow. Namaste means I bow to you showing respect of you as a person. I will ask students to mirror me and explain this is how we will start the yoga exercise all together. 13. Next I will demonstrate 5 yoga poses: Praying Mantis, Stretching Dog, Cobra Snake, Snail Shell, and Upside down Turtle. After explaining and showing each poses I will ask the students to try them. 14. Once I feel as though the students have mastered the poses I will explain to the class that I am going to lead out yoga exercise by saying the pose name and depicting it. I will turn on the Relaxation music station on my phone that will be streamed through my Vivo speaker box located in the middle of the room. I will again remind students the purpose of the exercise and my expectations for behavior during the activity. I will ask that during the exercise the students only open their eyes to reference me as to what pose to do and that they focus on their breathing and staying calm. 15. I will then give the students a small slip of paper and a pencil to place next to their yoga rugs. We will refer to the slip of paper as the Stress Slip. The students are to think of a way they can prevent or reduce stress in their lives and write it down on the slip of paper at the conclusion of the lesson. The slip over paper is what I will use to assess the students understanding of stress. 16. For the next 8-10 minutes I will lead the group through a yoga pose routine using the ones just taught.

17. I will close the lesson by having the students stand and say the secret yoga word and action to one another in unison. 18. The students will then bring their Stress Slip to me, roll up their rugs turn them and sit on the carpet in the middle of the room to wait silently for further instruction. Activity Analysis:
The first activity that will be done in the lesson will be reading the book, Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day. This story will give the students a character to relate to that is having a very stressful day. The second activity that the students will participate in is the learning and mirroring the five yoga poses I will demonstrate and explain. This activity is done to teach the students how they can relieve stress and keep calm when worried or uncomfortable in a situation. This a great way to make students aware of health risk caused by stress. The class as a whole tends to be loud and overactive. This lesson will allow students the opportunity to self reflect and relax, hopefully resulting in the students acting calmer after the activity. The only implementation of technology in the lesson that I will use is the Vivo stereo speakers and Pandora radio station app. on my phone to play relaxing music during the yoga activity. This is the only form of technology that will be used because this lesson is about relaxing the body and mind together, not over stimulating it.
