The medium for this source is a magazine article. The author uses real life experiences, from popular artist to teenagers who struggled to overcome eating disorders. Prah also incorporates early centurys beliefs and rituals to elaborate on eating disorders. The intended audience is to those are not aware of eating disorders, risks and the process of how disorders work. The audience would be convinced with the medical information, and real life experiences the author provides. The overall purpose is to set awareness and have people aware of disorders that could happen to anyone. 4. This text comes from a Press. Knowing that this source comes from a Press, and media has a reputation of manipulating information and at times not presenting the correct or valid information correctly makes me doubt if all the information presented in valid. Yes, the source is published by a reputable source. The source came from a Congressional division, which is a reliable source. 5. Moreover, contrary to the old stereotype, overachieving white girls from affluent families are not the only victims(Prah, CQ Researchers, page 121, paragraph 1). I found this quote interesting for its meaning. Despite stereotypes an eating disorder could occur to any one at any point in life. And physicians say eating disorders are appearing in younger and younger patients (Prah, CQ Researchers, page 123, paragraph 1). I found this quote interesting because throughout time we can see that the disorders are affecting younger people, therefore awareness of these types of disorders need to be introduced at a young age for prevention. But experts say eating disorders are caused by a complex mix of biological, psychological, and social factors, such as the brain chemistry, metabolism, coping skills and personality-along with a culture that promotes thinness(Prah, CQ Researchers, page 124, paragraph1)I found this quote interesting because it lists the known causes of eating disorders. The quote goes in depth with what health factors are being affected.

6. The author uses real life examples, such as the death of Karen Carpenter, twins from Australia who have been fighting anorexia for twenty years and the list goes on and on. Prah presents information from professionals to support her arguments for causes of eating disorders. Statistics are also presented in the form of graphs to group the categories of the disorders and those who suffer from an illness. The information presented seems to be credible. Providing information from cases with diagnosed eating disorders provides strong validation and reassurance. 7. Through this magazine article I agree with the author in expanding awareness and having people know about eating disorders, symptoms, and causes.

National Institute of Mental Health

1. "Eating Disorders." NIMH RSS. N.p., n.d. Web. 27 Oct. 2013. 2. In the booklet Eating Disorders (2013), the National Institute of Mental Health provides an overview of what eating disorders are and the distinctive types of eating disorders. In the booklet, information of how eating disorders are treated and research that is being done to better understand and treat eating disorders is also presented in the booklet. 3. The medium used for this source is a booklet. The author uses medical research information to support the argument. The intended audiences to this source are readers who are interested in learning about the illnesses. The source gives a descriptive structure of how each illness is detected to possible treatments to overcoming the disorder. The overall purpose of this source is to have readers informed of eating disorders that can he cause serious disturbances to an everyday diet. The authors goal is to engage readers into becoming aware of the distinctive eating disorders that can affect anyone in any age group, ethnicity or gender, and improve public health. 4. This text came from The National Institute of Mental Health. Knowing that the reading came from the National Institute of Mental Health, makes the source a reputable reading. The source is linked to data bases in Medicine Clinical Trials and National Libraries which makes the source a strong reliable source. 5. Eating disorders are real, treatable medical illnesses. They frequently coexist with other illnesses such as depression, substance abuse, or anxiety disorders (NIMMH, Eating Disorders, page1, paragraph 5). I found this quote interesting because it states how eating disorders can not only be an illness affecting one but, also coexist within other illnesses and can become life-threatening. It is not clear whether antidepressants can prevent some weight-restored patients with anorexia nervosa from relapsing (NIMH, Eating Disorders, page 5, paragraph 1). I found this source interesting for its explanation that not all medications are proven to cure an illness, or worse can lead a patient to relapse. Like females who have eating disorders, males also have a distorted sense of body image. For some, their symptoms are similar to those seen in females. Others may have

muscle dysmorphia, a type of disorder that is characterized by an extreme concern with becoming more muscular (Eating Disorders, NIMH, page 6, paragraph 5). I found this quote to be engaging due to the fact that many believe eating disorders only affect females. Both males and females are at risk of developing such illness, symptoms may be similar, except males are concerned in becoming muscular. This reinforces the idea of eating disorders affecting any age group, ethnicity or gender. 6. The author uses information from one source the National Institute of Mental Health. Within the institute there are is an immense number of resources that were used to compose and bring together this booklet. Yes, the information presented seems to be creditable and reliable when all the contributed information is government material that cant be missed used or publications cant be altered. 7. I would consider this source valuable and reliable and one of my most referred sources when conducting a research paper. The booklet gives detailed and descriptive structure as to the structure and process of each eating disorder. When looking for valuable sources we look for sources that contain information we understand, and creditable information.

Addressing Eating Disorders in Middle and High Schools

1. Articles for Feast: Addressing Eating Disorders in Middle and High Schools, Lauren Muhlheim, Feb.2012) 2. In the article Addressing Eating Disorders in Middle and High School (2012), Lauren Muhlheim discusses briefly what different types of eating disorders and how they are depicted. Muhlheim also emphasizes the importance of a schools preparation when dealing with a mental illness. 3. The medium for this source is an article. The author uses evidence-based treatments that including cognitive behavioral therapy and family therapy to reinforce her arguments. The intended audience is middle and high schools. Yes, .the audience would be convinced given that the author is a clinical psychologist. Her experience and expertise is the kind of source you would need to be convinced and have valid information. The overall purpose of the article is to spread public health awareness among schools and know appropriate approaches when encounter with a student who demonstrates a mental disorder. The author is trying to persuade schools into taking actions and becoming involved in such situations that can be deadly if not treated. 4. This source came from F.E.A.S.T (Families Empowered and Supporting Treatment of Eating Disorders). Knowing that the source comes from a non-profit organization makes me believe that the article is being used to promote awareness and not for profit. 5. Middle schools and High schools have an obligation to provide resources to support children with eating disorders as well as aid in their prevention (Muhlheim, Addressing Eating Disorders in Middle and High School, paragraph 2). I found this source interesting and beneficial to the purpose of this source. The author argues the importance for schools to implement aid and resources students could seek when in need. This quote summarizes the overall argument the author tries to convey.

Unlike people with anorexia who usually bear the obvious physical marks of their disorder, people with bulimia can have weight within the normal range for their height and age. For this reason, bulimia nervosa in student populations is often under-reported and under-diagnosed (Muhlheim, Addressing Eating Disorders in Middle and High School, paragraph 4). I find this quote interesting because it describes when a disorder is present yet symptoms are difficult to distinct. Bulimia nervosa patients can have a normal weight for height and age, making the disorder difficult to diagnose. Faculty should receive training in identifying eating disorders and early intervention. Staff should receive training in sensitively addressing students showing signs of eating disorders (Muhlheim, Addressing Eating Disorders in Middle and High Schools, paragraph 18). This quote also reinforces the authors main argument and purpose. This quote serves as an explanation why it is important to understand and know how to proceed with an eating disorder and be able to intervene before the disorder escalates and symptoms worsen. 6. The author uses the effects and prevention aid to portray concern in readers. Muhlheim uses this technique to have readers become active and become involved in situations when dealing with eating disorders. The evidence presented is creditable because the information is true and reliable although the author uses the information to worry readers. 7. I agree with the author in promoting awareness and preventing illnesses from being devastating consequences in schools. Many schools concern is the academic standing of the school forgetting the wellness of the students. Student spend much of their time in school, making school like a second home, therefore students should have a place where they can seek for help and the school should be able to present help aid to a student.

National Poll on Childrens Health Report

1. School Obesity Programs May Promote Worrisome Eating Behaviors and Physical Activity in Kids: C.S. Mott Childrens Health, Volume 14 Issue2, January 24, 2012. 2. In the report School Obesity Programs May Promote Worrisome Eating Behaviors and Physical Activity in Kids (2012), C.S. Mott Childrens Health presents worrisome behaviors that many children and pre-teens may face during school. The author also includes statistics based on parents point of view in child obesity. 3. The medium of the source itself is a report. The author uses statistics, and graphs to back the argument. The intended audiences are parents of children and pre-teens. The author sets out different point to parents, so they can become aware and become alert of changes in their children that could resemble an eating disorder. The overall purpose of the report is to send public health awareness in children and pre-teens. The source is presented for parents and schools to understand and know when a student/ child seem to attribute symptoms of an eating disorder. The author is trying to set awareness among the public to reduce child obesity. 4. This text came from the C.S. Mott Childrens Hospital, the University Of Michigan Department Of Pediatrics and Communicate Diseases, and the University of Michigan

Child Health Evaluation and Research Unit. The given source is a source that derives from research and from a hospital makes the source reputable. Research and information from experts is reliable information that comes from those who practice and have dealt with such illness. 5. In recent years, childhood obesity has consistently ranked among the top concerns that parents and the public have regarding the health of children in the U.S.(C.S. Mott, School Obesity Programs May Promote Worrisome Eating Behaviors and Physical Activity in Kids, page 1, paragraph 1) I found this source interesting because in all of the U.S. child obesity is the highest ranked with, yet there is nothing being done to reduce this illness. Residents should become aware and know the risk factors of such disorder that can be deadly if not treated. In addition, 7%of parents say that their children have been made fell bad at school about what or how much they were eating (C.S. Mott, School Obesity Programs May Promote Worrisome Eating Behaviors and Physical Activity in Kids, page 1, paragraph 6). I found this quote interesting for its effects of eating disorders in children. Parents have openly confessed that their children have been made to feel bad about their eating habits. Yet, nothing was done to prevent such bullying or aggression. The level of worrisome eating and activity behaviors in this Poll (nearly 1 of every households with kids) underscore important it is for parents to be aware of and discuss nutrition messages presented to their children( C.S. Mott, School Obesity Programs May Promote Worrisome Eating Behaviors and Physical Activity in Kids, page 2, paragraph 4). I found this quote interesting because it informs about parents and its importance to discuss nutrition messages to their children to prevent or be able to teat an eating disorder at an early stage where it can be treated and recovery can be faster. 6. The author uses statistics, and worrisome behaviors children may portray. The author also includes bar graphs to explain the distribution of parent worrisome behavior in their children. Yes, the source seems to be credible because of the survey that was conducted. 7. I agree with the author and the argument. Child obesity should be a concern and we need to take action to help and prevent from many lifes to be taken away for lack of knowledge and aid.
