1. The building which resembles the Royal Palace of Amsterdam was once a Stadhuis or City Council, built in 1707-1710 under the command of Governor General Johan Van Hoorn. 2. Ofcially named as The National Museum of Indonesia since 1979, the museum which hosts ancient objects from all over the archipelago is more popular as Elephant Museum, thanks to its symbol, the copper elephant statue which was given by Chulalongkorn from Thailand in 1871.

3. Submarine Monument (Monumen Kapal Selam or Monkasel) is a submarine museum located in Surabaya. The monument is built out of KRI Pasopati 410 Submarine, which was once used in the Battle of Aru to free West Irian from Dutch colonialism. 4. The museum which was named after the painter Adrien Jean Le Mayeur de Merpres hosts more than 88 paintings.

5. Proclamation Monument, which is also known as Lightning Monument (Tugu Petir) is located at Jl. Proklamasi, which was once named Jl. Pegangsaan Timur No. 56. 6. The Kite Museum which was located in South Jakarta has a collection of more than 350 from Indonesia and other countries. It was ofcially opened in 2003. Its founder, M U S E U M i n I N D O N E S I A Endang Poespoyo, has been active in various kite communities since 1989.

Aceh Tsunami Museum

THIS MUSEUM was built in memory of the 2004 tsunami that devastated Aceh. The concept of the building combines the styles of the Aceh Platform House, the waves of the sea and the Saman Dance on its relief. It was launched by Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono on February 23, 2008. There, visitors can nd the tsunami hallway, which depicts the coming of the tsunami and the Praying Well, which is inscribed with the names of the victims. The next oor has several visual depiction of the Aceh Tsunami incident. This include photographies, dioramas, remnants and thematic exhibit chambers that have been lined up based on chronological order. There is a library on the top most oor, a demonstration tool of earthquake resistent building and an earthquake simulation chamber. There is also a 4D dimensional theater that shows a lm on Tsunami, complete with real special effects.

Museum Negeri Aceh

THIS MUSEUM is actually a 1914 Aceh home (Rumoh in Acehnese) that was built for an exhibit in Semarang. The Rumoh was taken back to its province and was turned into a museum by then Aceh Dutch Governor H.N.A Swart (Belanda) on July 31, 1915. It has an eclectic collection. From household appliances, ceramics, traditional weapons, traditional clothing to old manuscripts. Its most interesting item is a giant bell called Cakra Donyai, which is a gift from a Chinese maharaja for the Sultan Aceh and delivered by Admiral Cheng Ho in 1414. In this complex, visitors can also nd the cemeteries of Aceh Sultans in the past and their descendants, including the grave of Sultan Iskandar Muda, the most well-known Aceh Sultan in Indonesia.

Museum Malikussaleh
THIS MUSEUM takes its name from Sultan Samudera Pasai the rst, Sultan Malikussaleh. It is located in Lhokseumawe, North Aceh, which is believed to be the center of the kingdoms government. The museums oldest item in collection are ceramic plates and bowls found at the Samudera Pasai pre-historic site. There is also a collection of dirham currency, money that are made out of gold and were used as a currency at that time. Furthermore, the museum has a collection of 1,05 books and 50 scriptures, like the Arab Jawou scripture that was written by Tengku Chik Awe Geutah, a great spiritual leader from Bireuen. It also houses the 20 stories of Sabil War, which is lled with enlifting tales of Jihad of the people of this veranda to Mecca in their ght against the Dutch.

THIS MUSEUM was launched by then Minister of Education and Culture, Dr. Daoed Yoesoef in 1982. It contains more than 6,000 items of historical items, which was spread into several categories that include geology, archeology, ethnography, biology and art. These items are from prehistoric times, the Hindu-Buddha era to the Struggle for Independence. One of its more special items was left here by national hero Sisingamaraja XII, which a scarf weaved by Miriam (his wife). This building stands on a one hectare land and is split into several exhibition chambers, an audio visual room, a library and a computer room. Architecturally, this museum utilizes the North Sumatra Traditional home that has been adorned with a roof that is ornamented by all the motifs of the ethnic tribes in the province.

Batak Museum (TB Silalahi Center)

THIS MUSEUM was built as an information center on the largest Batak ethnic population in the world. It stores all the relics that the Batak people have created over the last thousands of years: From artistic tools, household appliances to religious items. Other facilities in this three-storied is a laboratory, a service room, an audio-visual room, an education room and several exhibition chambers such as the permanent exhibition chamber, a temporary exhibiation chamber and a special collection exhibition room. The museum stands on top of a 180 square meter land on the edge of Toba Lake, making this a popular tourism attraction and not just a cultural center. Adityawarman State Museum

THIS MUSEUM was launched on March 16, 1977 by then Minister of Education and Culture, Dr. Syarif Thayeb. This 3,493 square meter building stands on top of a 2.6 hectare land. Its main construct is shaped in the form of a Gadang Home that bears the Gajah Maharam style combined with a granary, a miniature gharry and a world war II ghter plane. This museum has a collection of precious sones, jewelries, prehistoric human skeletons, ceramics, china and traditional tools. There is a collection of items that pertains to organizations, gures, states, currency and old scripts. One special item is a silver chest plate adorned with 17.5 grams of gold and a shiny white pearl in its center.

Tridaya Eka Dharma Struggle Museum

STRAIGHT IN FRONT of the Japanese Cave museum in Bukittinggi is a museum that houses the history of the physical struggles in West Sumatra from the era of kings to the struggle of independence. Launched by the proclaimer of Indonesias independence, Dr. H. Mohammad Hatta on August 16, 1973, the name Tridaya Eka Dharma Struggle Museum means the three Elements of the force of loyalty. It houses hundreds of collection that include traditional weapons, pistols, rearms, machine guns, grenade launchers, mortars and cannons. There is also an AT-16 Hervard B 419 ghter plane used to combat the PRRI 1958 group in West Sumatra. It also houses the YBJ-6 broadcast tower, which is an important tool for the Indonesian Republic Emergency Government (PDRI).

Museum Rumah Kelahiran Bung Hatta

THIS HOUSE is where Bung Hatta, the proclaimer of Indonesias independence, was born and where he spent his childhood until he was 11 years old. The real building, which was built in the 1860s, had arleady felll in shambles in the 1960s. It was rebuilt and then turned into a Museum on Agusut 12, 1995, whch is the same date as Bung Hattas birthday. This house was built based on the original form, as illustrated by Bung Hatta and depicted by his family pictures. Its furnitures, trinkets and location was made to look as close as possible to the original construct. The building is made of wood with walls that are made of boards and a oor of bamboo and rattan webbing. This house is made up of a main building, a pavillion, a granary, a kitchen and a stable.

Tanjung Pandan Museum

THIS MUSEUM was built by a Belgian Geologist named Dr. Osberger in 1963. Back then, Dr. Osberger was working in a lead mining unit. It is no wonder then that this museum contains many ornaments and rocks and stone formations found by PT Timah. There are also old machine that the Dutch had used to mine lead. But this museum is not all about lead. There are also relics from the Belitung Sultanate, including kris and other heirlooms. Here youll nd ancient traditional clothing, old metal coins and ceramics from Middle Ages-China, which has quite an inuence during that time.

Badau Kingdom Museum

IT IS SAID that during the 15th century, Ronggo Udo or Datuk Mayang Gresik from java came to Belitung and became the rst king of Badau. This museum preserved the historic remnants of the six century-old Badau Kingdom Relics contained in the museum include kris, swords, gongs and kelinang (a small gong). On the other hand, its most famous exhibit item is the Bamboo Spear. This hundreds of years old spear hails from the Majapahit Kingdom and is believed to contain magical powers, as is the Garu Rasuki, which is made from Gaharu wood. Remnants of the Badau Kingdom are also found at the Badau King Tomb located on Lilangan Mountain.

Buding Museum
BUNDING MUSEUM keeps historical relics and remnants from the Bunding and Balok kingdoms, both of which were once rulers of Belitung. Those who want to know about these kingdoms can ask their heirs who live around the museum. It is located about 50 kilometers away from Tanjung Pandan City, which had the museum one of East Belitungs best tourism attractions. The museum includes a collection of historic weapons such as kris and swords. There are also exhibits of traditional artistic instruments. The collection, aside from being found from both kingdoms archeological sites, were also obtained from the local people who simply wanted to have a place for their heirlooms.

Bengkulu Province State Museum

THIS MUSEUM has two chambers for its main exhibits: the Permanent Exhibition chamber and the Temporary Exhibition Chamber. Here, visitor can check out over 3,660 collections within the categories of biology, archeology, history, numismatic/heraldic, philology and ceramicology. The ethnography category includes prehistoric items obtained from the many tribes still living in Bengkulu. Some of the Museums special collection includes hundreds of ancient texts whose author has remained anonymous. As of today, only ten of these texts have been successfully translated. It is lled with poems, history and commandments that are hundreds of years old. Moreover, there is a Drukkey printing machine with the brand Golden Press. This American machine used to be used to print Oeang Republik Indonesia (ORI or The Money of the Republic of Indonesia).

Fort Marlborough Museum

FORT MALBOROUGH was erected by the East India Company (EIC) that had, between 1713 and 1719, served as the British defense fort under the leadership of Governor Joseph Callet. It is located on top of a hill facing Bengkulu with its back facing the Indian Ocean. As soon as one enters the building, one is surrounded by prison cells. Its ghostly faade separated with tourists by mere imsy bars. Meanwhile, on the right side of the fort, is the dilapidated and steamy barracks. The top-most oor of the fort allows a clear view of the Indian Ocean. Furthermore, each corner of the top-most part of the fort lays several ancient cannons that face the ocean and Bengkulu City.

Riau State Sang Nila Utama Museum

THIS MUSEUM was rst built with the name Riau State Museum. It switched its name to the Sang Nila Utama, which is taken from the name of a Bintan King who reigned as king of Bintan in the 13th century. The development of the museum started some time between 1984 and 1985. It was launched on July 1994 by the Director General of Culture, Prof. Edi Sedyawati. This museum supplies complete information on Riau and its culture, even presenting this information in miniature form. There is even information about the oil well technology. The museum has 4,298 items in collections that comprises of items in the categories of geology, biology, ethnography, history, philology, ceramics and art. the Riau Administration has been gathering the items periodically since 1977/1978.

Asserayah Hasyimiyah (Siak) Palace Museum

SIAK KINGDOM was the largest Islamic Melayu Kingdom in Riau who reigned from the 16th century to the 20th century. The Siak Kingdom complex was built by Sultan Assyaidis Syarif Hasyim Abdul Jalil Syaifuddin and gave it the name Assirayatul Hasyimiah in 1889. The German-born architect mixed European, Middle-East and Melayu styles for the museum. At present, everybody is welcome to look at the kingdoms collectibles such as the gold-padded throne, a duplicate of the royal crown, umbrella, spear and the royal cannon. There are also souvenirs from the previous kingdom and other items such as Chinese and European ceramics, a pearl-laden mirror and a diamond-studded marble statue. The museum also stores a meteorite.

Sultan Sulaiman Badrul Alamsyah Museum

THE SULTAN SULAIMAN BADRUL ALAMSYAH MUSEM takes the spot of the former Hollandsch-Inlandsche School (HIS) that was built in 1918. It is there where all high-valued cultural and historical assets are gathered and displayed by the Tanjung Pinang city administration. Kandil Riau Museum

R. A. RAZAK himself built this museum. He was feeling bothered with the cultural remnants of his home town. The historic priceless treasures in Penyengat island and Daik island has been left unaccounted for. Luckily, the man has a penchant for collecting old relics, especially those that has something to do with his ancestors. Ever since it was launched as a local museum on August 29, 1972, Kandil Riau museum has a collection of over 700 ancient relics. Some of which are hundreds of years old. The old Riau Melayu Kingdom include the Sultans praying cap, eating utensils, and several items that are related to the Melayu Sultans daily lives.

Jambi State Museum

MUSEUM HAD ACTUALLY been built by 1981 but was only launched by then Minister of Education and Culture, Prof. Dr. Fuad Hasan on June 6, 1988. The building bears Jambi traditional architecture of the Kajang Lako home on the main building and auditorium and a Larik home architecture on the administrative building and warehouse. The museums collection is divided into several main categories, including ethnography, which display tools and ornament pertinent to the daily culture in Jambi; archeology, which are mostly prehistoric relics and remnants of foreign inuence in Jambi; and ceramicology, which are ceramics from many nations around the world. There are also the biology and geology category, which is a collection of plant and animal fossils along with rocks and mineral.

Jambi Museum of Struggle

THIS MUSEUM was built under the initiative of the Daily Regional Council of the Service of 45 and the Jambi administration. The setting of the rst stone was done by the Chief of Indonesian Legion of Veterans, Lt. Gen. Achmad Thahir (ret) on June 6, 1993, and was subsequently launched by then President Soeharto on July 10, 1997. This museum was then turned into a Regional Technical Implementor Unity of the Jambi Culture and Tourism Agency. The museums collection shows the struggle of the Jambi people during the ght for independence, as illustrated by the majestic copy of the Catalina RI 005 aircraft and assorted traditional and conventional weapons used to ght the Dutch. There are also reliefs and dioramas that depicts the history of Jambi, including a bust and a painting of Sultan Thaha Saifuddin.

Balaputera Dewa South Sumatra State Museum

THIS MUSEUM was built on 1978 and was launched on November 5, 1984. It tooks its name from the Sriwijaya King who ruled the land during the 9th century. The Balaputradewa Museum was built using a Palembang traditoinal architecture on 23,395 square meter area. The collection that came from the prehistoric period are mysterious stone statues from the Pasemah high ground, estimated to be between 1,500 and 2,000 years old. The most famous one is the Gajah stone, which depicts a warrior carrying drums and riding an elephant. There is also a collection of prehistoric remnants from the Sriwijaya kingdom, Palembang traditional items and several miniatures of traditional homes. The total amount of item is about 2,000. This include an ofset of animals from many regions in Sumatra.

(Monpera) Civil Struggle Monument Museum

THIS MONUMENT is built to commemorate the struggle of the South Sumatra People in the Five Days Five Nights battle of 1947 against the Dutch, which is located exactly within the museums grounds. Built in 1975, the monument was launched on February 23, 1988, but then Coordinating Minister of Public Welfare Alamsyah Ratu Prawira Negara. Inside is a relief that depict the battles, weapons that were used and war documents. There is also a special collection from six important South Sumatra war heroes. The collection include pictures, statue replicas of the heroes and a collection of their work, civil and even military suits.

Museum Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin II

THIS MUSEUM stores a very long and historical tale. At the beginning, the building was the old Kuto Fort during the reign of Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin Javo Wikramo and Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin (1724-1758). The fort was destroyed by the Dutch Army in 1823 and it was rebuilt in 1825 to be the Dutch Gubernatorial Secretariat building and the residence of the Dutch Governor, I. L. Van Seven House, giving the structure a Melayu traditional and Duch Colonial style. After the independence of Indonesia, the building was changed into a military command area (kodam) II/Sriwijaya. The museums historic collection include old statues like the Ganesha Amarawati and Buddha from the Sriwijaya Kingdom era.

Lampung Province Ruwa Jurai Museum

RUWA (TWO) DAN JURAI (DESCENDANT) memiliki means that the Lampung people comes from two descendants: those practice the Saibatin culture and those that practice the Pepadun culture. The idea for the pioneered in 1975/1976 and it was subsequently launched on September 24, 1988, by Education and Culture Minister Prof. Fuad Hassan. The museum has collected 2,893 items comprising of relics in the categories of geology, biology, archeology, history, numismatics, philology, ceramics, art and technology. Some of the items include artistic ceramics from the Kingdom of Siam and the Ming Dynasty. The museum also houses old stamps and currency from the Dutch colonialism era. The collection that relates to the Lampung culture comprises of tools used to create and wear certain ethnic items.

National Transmigration Museum

THIS MUSEUM, which was built in 2005, was created in the purpose of managing data, information and other items of historical value that are related to the transmigration program from the colonial times until present day. It is also a social laboratory and an educational tool for people involved in the transmigration program. The museums location is the location where the transmigration program was rst held by the Dutch Government in 1905. The program reinforced Lampungs position as the rst location for the Indonesian Government rst location for its subsequent transmigration program. THE MUSEUM is Southeast Asias rst and largest museum. It was launched by the former colonial government in 1868 under the moniker Musuem Royal Batavian Society of Arts and Science Batavia. It is renamed into the Elephant Museum when King Chulalongkorn of Thailand gifted a copper elephant statue to the Museum in 1871. Jakarta History Museum

THIS MUSEUM was formerly the city hall of the VOC colonial government of Batavia in 1626. Over time, its function and its use has continued to change. It has been a courthose, a civil records ofce and even a military base. In 1985, the building was given to the Jakarta City Administration, which had since turned it into a museum on March 30, 1974. This museum is closely related to the Oud Batavia museum, which was created by the Dutch in 1919 to commemorate the 300th birthday of Batavia city. Its collection mostly espouses remnants of the Dutch governance during the 16th Century. This include old Dutch furnitures, ceramics, maps, books and weapons. When Indonesia gained its independence The Oud Batavia Museum was turned into the Djakarta Lama museum and its whole collection was moved to the Jakarta History Museum.

THIS MUSEUM hosts remnants of Indonesias struggle for independence, particularly the history of the struggle of the Indonesian Armed Forces (TNI) in reclaiming, defending and substantiating the nations independence. The museum contains many diorama that depicts the birth of the armed forces and its more famous battles. It also contains numerous texts in its library. Many historic items from 1945 to present day are housed there. This include several heavy and light weaponry, attributes of armed forces, signs and symbols of the armed forces, war vehicles such as tanks, the panzer and even plane ghters from the past. Banten Lama Prehistoric Site Museum

THE BANTEN LAMA Prehistoric Site Museum was launched at July 15, 1985, by the Director General of Cultural Affairs Prof. Dr. Haryati Subadio. The 1 hectare area contains a 778 meter square museum. Collection found within the Banten Lama Archeological Site include ceramics, urns, currency and metal found in the Banten Archeological Site. The items are believed to be part of a society in Banten that lived between 16 and 19 A.D. One interesting collection is the Ki Amuk cannon, which is located in front of the museum, the cannon contains three circle shaped stone tablets inscribed with arabic characters and words. The cannon is made out of copper and is 2.5 meter long. It, apparently, stolen from the portugese army in a battle.

Banten Mosque History Musem

THE GREAT MOSQUE OF BANTEN is Banten Sultanate historic remnant built by Sultan Maulana Hasanuddin, son of Sunan Gunung Jati from the year 1552 AD 1570 AD. This Mosque has a unique architecture that blend styles from Hindu Java, China and Europe. This is visible from the mosques ve tiered roof, not unlike a Chinese Pagoda. It is said that this mosque was designed and constructed by Raden Sepat, a Majapahit expert architect who also built Demak Mosque and Cirebon Mosque. On the left of the Mosque is the tomb of Sultan Maulana Hasanuddin and his wife and Sultan Ageng Tirt. The left veranda contains the tomb of Sultan Maulana Muhammad and several leaders of the Banten Sultanate and their families.

Geology Museum
THIS MUSEUM was built by the Dutch-East Indies administration to document the many rocks, minerals and fossils collected from numerous regions in the Dutch-East Indies region. The launching was done on May 16, 1929 under the name Geologisch Laboratorium, otherwise known as Geologisch Museum. The museums main exhibition hall is divided into three section. The rst is called the History of Life, which depicts the history behind the formation of earth up to the dinosaur age. The second section is called the Geology of Indonesia, which depicts the formation of the Indonesian landmass. The third is Geology in Human Life, which depicts the uses of rocks, minerals, exploration and explorations attempts that had been done in the course of human history.

West Java Sri Baduga State Museum

THIS MUSEUM, which was launched on June 5, 1980, was formerly a Kawedanan Tegallega building. The stage housestyled building sports a saddle like roof that is combined with modern architectural styles. The name Sri Baduga was added in 1990 after a Pajajaran King who ruled the area in 1481-1521 AD. The Sri Baduga museum display a collection of items despicts the geographical and cultural development of West Java. This development can be viewed in any of the museums three main permanent exhibit halls. It has 6,600 items categorized into 10 clasications, namely geology, biology, ethnography, archeology, history, numismatics/ heraldics, philology, arts, ceramicology and technology.

Linggarjati Roundtable Building

THIS PLACE HAS A LONG HISTORY that extends far beyond its inaguration as the Linggarjati Roundtable Building in 1985. This is where the Indonesian and Dutch Governments conducted the Linggarjati Roundtable discussion (from November 11-12, 1946) during the nations struggle for independence. This Dutch home had actually been used a base for the Japanese military. It was also, at one point, a Linggarjati State Elementary School. Now, the atmosphere of the building has been made so that it reects the atmosphere of the Roundtable discussion. The living room displays the feel of heavy political maneuvering. There are also many pictures from the Dutch that documents the roundtable proceedings.

Karmawibhangga Museum
KARMAWIBHANGGA MUSEUM is located within the Borobudur park area. The temple has been World Cultural Heritage no. 592 since 1991, as stipulated by the UNESCO. All this time, we may only have been looking at the grandeur of Borobudur Temple without really knowing the story laid upon its reliefs, especially the reliefs hidden on the bottom end of the temple, otherwise known as the Karmawibhangga relief. In this museum are 160 hidden panels that tells the complete story of Borobudur, a story that symbolizer the ressurection and the journey to enlightment of the human named Sudhana. It is a story of a person in his journey to achieve perfect selessness and wisdom, all revealed through a set of reliefs and statues.

Radyapustaka Museum
RADYA PUSTAKA MUSEUM is located inside the Sriwedari Park, which was built on October 28, 1890, by Kanjeng Adipati Sosrodiningrat IV, an interior minister of the Pakubuwono IX and Pakubuwono X administration. This museum contains a collection of ancient artifacts that have historical values, among which are stone and bronze statues from the Hindu and Buddha. There is also a collection of ancient kris and several traditional weapons, a set of gamelan, leather shadow puppets (wayang) and wayang beber and a collection of ceramics. Radya Pustaka museum also has a library that contains many books on culture and history, arts and tradition and old javanese and Dutch literature.

Central Java Ronggowarsito State Museum

RONGGOWARSITO MUSEUM is the largest museum in Central Java, with a collection of over 50,000 items. The 8,438 square meter museum stand above a land more than two hectares wide. The museums surroundings include a veranda, a convention building, permanent exhibit buildings, a library, a laboratory, an ofce complex and an exhibit warehouse, all of which stands above an area more than two hectares wide. There are four permanent exhibit buildings, each comprising of two oors and one gold collection room. Nine of of the galleries include a geology gallery, a paleontology gallery that displays fossils, a gallery for Hindu-Buddha relics, a gallery for relics from numerous ages, a gallery for the armed struggle for independence and a gallery for technological displays and traditional handicrafts.

Sonobudoyo Yogyakarta Museum

SONOBUDOYO STATE MUSEUM is the Regional Tehcnial Implementor of the Yogyakarta Cultural Agency. Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono VIII granted the land the museum is built on. The Sultan also launched the opening of the museum on November 1935. Mesum is equipped with a library in which most of the books and scriptures bear witness to the Indonesian culture. There is also a conservation laboratory, which functions to preserve the museums collection. In front of the musem is the Kyai Mega Mendung Gamelan, which originated from 19th century Cirebon and is adorned with the Mega Mendung motif. There is also the Kyai and Nyai Ririrs Manis gamelan, which is distinctively Yogyakarta with Slendro and Pelog notes.

Perjuangan Yogyakarta Museum

THIS MUSEUM is build in memory to the Half-a-Century National Awakening of Yogyakarta and in memory of the Struggle for the Independence of Indonesia. The buildings have a unique style called Ronde Tampel, which is an ancient eastern roman architecture style. Around the walls of the museum are ten busts of indonesian national heroes and 37 reliefs that depicts the history behind the struggle for independence from the national movement to the restoration of independence in 1950. The museum has a collection of 200 historic war of independence items. In the building are three dioramas that takes visitors back to the days of the struggle.

Dewantara Kirti Griya Museum

IT HAS ALWAYS been the wish of Ki Hajar Dewantara himself to have his home at Jl. Tamansiswa to be made a museum. The Great Teachers dreams was immediately fullled after his passing. On May 2, 1970, the Tamansiswa museum was opened for public by Nyi Hajar Dewantara. The museum was then called the Dewantara Kirti Griya and it functions specically as a memorial. The Dewantara Kirti Griya stores around 3,000 items that have had an effect of the life of Ki Hajar Dewantara. The items owned by Ki and Nyi Hajar Dewantara include their bed, their clothes, their ceramics, a typewriter, pictures of Ki Hajar and his family, a video clip of the speech that Ki Hajar made at the rst Tamansiswa Congress, books and a collection of Ki Hajars writings.
