Exploring Indonesias Museums

Indonesia has a vast collection kept in Museums located in various areas of the archipelago. These museums provide a unique experience of getting up close to things we usually see only in books or television. Seeing the original Indonesian Declaration of Independence, for instance, is a totally different experience compared to seeing one of its many copies. Museums can be an extremely valuable source of creativity and an important instrument to research programs in Indonesia. For many people undertaking research, museums provide information and resources as well as access to archives. Museums also provide the ideal learning environment, active hands-on participation or passive observation. More importantly, museums are the source of living history and perhaps an insight to the world that lies before us. Well-maintained museums are able to display historical records and bring out the beauty in them. In this book, you can easily explore the museums in Indonesia and learn about the nations complex history. Discover a new way of looking at Indonesia. Experience it for yourself.

Linggarjati Roundtable Building

THIS PLACE HAS A LONG HISTORY that extends far beyond its inaguration as the Linggarjati Roundtable Building in 1985. This is where the Indonesian and Dutch Governments conducted the Linggarjati Roundtable discussion (from November 11-12, 1946) during the nations struggle for independence. This Dutch home had actually been used a base for the Japanese military. It was also, at one point, a Linggarjati State Elementary School. Now, the atmosphere of the building has been made so that it reects the atmosphere of the Roundtable discussion. The living room displays the feel of heavy political maneuvering. There are also many pictures from the Dutch that documents the roundtable proceedings.
