Montage
Description:
Im really big on spending time with family because Im a college student and im busy all the time. Its important to me to love the moments with my family. I wanted to incorporate that into the image; the quote just brings it all together. I feel like its a hopeful image because of the sun, its a bright light and hope fills a person up like light illuminates everything.

Programs/Tools Objectives:

I used Photoshop and the internet for my pictures.

Learn to manage Photoshop layers. Learn to blend images together smoothly, using masks. (Two or more images) Use filters. (Apply at least one) Apply appropriate typography. Choosing good quality images. (Note background should be at least 16501275 pixels) Apply typography principles (titles, quotes, events or scripturesyour choice) Unifying a piece with a consistent theme

Process:

I actually went through Google and found most of my pictures through Google; theyre all high quality. After I got the images, I started with the sunset and placed the heart above the sun. At first, I was going to use the hands, that cupped the heart, but I realized, they added a nice natural glow to the heart. I made the heart more opaque and blended it in with the sun. Then I placed in the family. The family was hard because I had to use the Lasso tool to take them out of the orginal picture but the outlines from the lasso tool showed a lot. I beveled and embossed the family. It really helped get rid of the harsh lines as well as added a nice glow from the sun. I wanted something more natural instead of a cheesy glow from the editing tools. After the family, I worked on my placement of text and the typography I wanted to use. My last bit was including the filter. All the filters I felt were really cheesy until I found the oil painting and it made the image way more authentic. After playing around a bit with the filter, I got what I wanted and this is the image you see before you.

Programs/Tools Objectives:

Digital camera and Photoshop

wwLearn basic photography skills. Use a digital camera to take a quality image, then download it. Size and crop the image. 6x6 resolution 150 Adjust image brightness, contrast, hue and saturation levels. Use a selection tool to isolate a portion of the image. Desaturate the selected portion of the image. Use a filter or colorize a portion of the image. Document needs to be 8.511 150 resolution. Margins: top 2, sides 1.25 and bottom 3

Process:

I took my daughter outside of the Spori building and let her do her own thing. She chased me around and I got quite a few good shots. This was one of them. I took the picture then I uploaded it into photo shop and played with the Saturation, contrast, and filters; I used Dark Stroke for my filter. I also desaturated some of the color out of the ever green tree behind my daughter so that the tall grass in front of my daughter really popped. I also cropped just a tiny bit. I also have the general idea of how to use layering in photo shop, but I think itll take a little bit more practice. Once I was happy with the results, I re-sized it to the specifications given and uploaded it for you guys to view at your discretion.

Microsoft word A Escon Scanner website resources for the benefactor and beneficiary. printer

Objectives:

Find, scan and import a high-quality image. Create a full-bleed design Use text boxes for layout in Word. Insert and edit images in Word.

Process:

I found my bat picture from National Geographic and I thought about what I could do. Since Halloween is coming up, I decided to do an imaginary event, a carnival. I wanted it to benefit someone, so I did some light research on a couple of websites that produce a lot of funds for these children as well as help by providing a donation area to make donations to. I had some problems along the way on figuring out how the design is going to be layed out and what would look alright. I actually came across this lay out by accident while trying to figure out how to make the text pop without using filled in boxes. Once I got this design, I just added the bat picture with a cool frame, the moon shape and rectangles to emphasize the important parts of my flyer.

Event Flyer
Description
I created a flyer that would demonstrate the hard working ethics of Vouant Communications as well as show a simplistic, sophisticated, layout of when the Leadership Conference will be held.

InDesign

Objectives:

Apply the design principles and use appropriate typography. Incorporate basic InDesign skills to improve basic flier layout. Retrieve image and logo from links on this page. Create a project folder with image, logo and InDesign document to keep links intact.

Process:

I used the program InDesign to create this flyer. The flyer has a circular flow starting from the title ending with the picture as well as it conveys the professionalism of Vouant Communications. Everything is aligned with something and it is appealing to the eye. I made sure the title contrasts nicely with the body type. I also highlighted the D-T-P so that potential customers will be able to locate when the conference will be held.

Stationary
Description Date:
Hohman Floral needed a stationary page. I designed these things based on their floral shop in Indiana. November 08, 2013

Course Instructor:
Julie Peterson COMM130 Section 05

Programs/Tools Objectives:

Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Indesign

Use The basic tools of Illustrator & InDesign. Create a new logo to fit a company or personal image. Do not imitate existing logos or use your previous designs. Design consistent layouts for a business card and letterhead. Use your new logo to design two stationery items with consistent design. Letterhead: 8.5 x 11 (full-bleed optional, but trim only .125) Business card: 3.5 x 2 (print above center on a vertical page) Apply typography rules keeping small copy. Learning to keep thing simple by having watermarks and drop shadows light and white space. Applying contact information: Include name, address, phone, and email on each piece. Use periods, bullets, or spaces in phone #; No parentheses/ hyphens.

Process:

I wanted a base line to work with before I created my business card. I started by creating my logo and working with how its going to sit on the page. After I got that taken care of, I felt like the stationary needed a watermark. So I worked with the opacity on my flower and created one. When I had those two things done, I still felt like the page was incomplete and I needed to tie in my information some how; I played with the shapes and used the hexagons. Just having the Hexagons bold though didnt really add an appeal so I reduced the opacity by ten after each 3rd hexagon. Some of them are reduced to five percent to, but it just adds a nice fading effect. I liked the contrast and I stuck to it. I held option and dragged down the design and placed it on the bottom so I wouldnt have to spend a lot of time on replicating the exact same design. Then I added the contact information and made the font blue to match the blue in the flower.

Process:

I set my rulers first so I would have the right measurements. I had my logo prepped so I placed it on. I did have to replicate the hexagon design so that took some time and then I added the contact information and made it the same blue as the blue in the flower to correlate it. On the back, I just placed the flower on the back and adjusted the size of it.

Objectives:

Size (300 500 pixels ) and optimize an original logo as a .png for a web page. Write content to describe the process of creating your logo and how it appeals to a target audience. Design a web page using HTML to display the logo and content. (Use TextWrangler or NotePad++ Acquire a working knowledge of HTML. (Must include all required tags (Doctype), html, head, title, meta charset, & body. As well as tag that links to external style sheet. With in the body include h1, h2, p, ol or ul, img, hr, and a tags. Rcquire a working knowledge of CSS. Identify hex colors for web design.

Process:

I edited my logo so that it was the appropriate size in Photoshop. Then I worked on editing my HTML code to create a draft for my website and worked on the text for my site. I then found a CSS code and linked the HTML code with the CSS so all I had to do was correct what I wanted in CSS. I changed the colors and changed the fonts in CSS and even added a small touch and centered the logo in my CSS. I figured out the colors by going into photo shop and using the eye-dropper tool to get the exact colors I wanted. I came up with the color scheme that is appealing to the eye and called it done and took a screenshot to submit.

Brochure
Description:
I wanted to make a brochure that would apply to my major, which is Sociology. I got to thinking and there wasnt really a Family Crisis Center in Atlanta that I was aware of. So I decided to create one based on the LDS principles of family. This was the result of the brochure. The gray guys linking hands is helping the black sheep or the guy with the black head.

Programs/Tools Objectives:

InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator and Microsoft word

Set up and align a two-sided, folded document. Create an original company logo and use it in a brochure. Incorporate quality images. Write at least 250 words of original copy with at least three paragraphs. Trim for a full bleed and print in duplex (two-sided) color.

Process:

I wanted to incorporate unity and friendliness and the way that these guys stick together represent that unity well. When it came to color, I wanted something that would signify strength with each other. So I Googled and found Green was the color I needed. Gray also has some of the components I was looking for to so thats how I came across my color scheme. My Logo is a five pointed star because there are a lot of families of five. So to add the same idea of family, I created the star Logo. Everyone in the pictures are clasping hands because in a Crisis, you need to stick together. The whole process began on how I wanted the brochure to be set up. What could I do to incorperate unity even in the design of it? A tutor suggested the guys holding hands, like the string of guys and I thought it was a brilliant idea. So I found the guys I wanted and used the lasso tool in Indesign and got them cut out midway; I decided against keeping the legs because I wouldnt have any room to post pictures or body copy. Then I proceeded to work with the colors and find pictures. I found the pictures I wanted and created the design I have today. The last thing I worked on was what color the font needed to be. It needed to pop so I utilized my eye-dropper tool and grabbed the lightest gray from the middle star in my logo.

Logo
Description
As I was browsing the site for Hohman Floral, I noticed they didnt have a logo. I decided to create some simple choice logos for their company.

Programs/Tools Objectives:

Adobe Illustrator and the internet to find the company I wanted to create a logo for.

Create a variety of logos to fit a company or personal image Do not imitate existing logos or use your previous designs. Use only the tools of Illustrator. Setting up a professional display for the company. Arrange three logos on an 8.5 x 11 vertical page / .5 margins and add the company name in simple type at the top of page.

Process:

I used Adobe Illustrator to create the logos. First I made sure that the document was the right size before I got started and then I proceeded to brainstorm some ideas. The first logo I wanted to keep simple and clean so that it is easy for customers to read. I drew the flowers around the Os in Hohman and Floral and I connected the flowers with a green vine. The second logo, I wanted to shoot for a trademark logo. Something simple but something that contrasts so it attracts customers eyes. I used the shape tool and drew a circle then I used a paintbrush tool to create the flowers and the vines. The third logo wound up being fancier than the other two because I wanted to demonstrate that I can create a more complex idea. I created the bouquet first and then added the company name. I tried to add contrast so that it would be easier to read from farther away.
