The Syngenta and ADP relationship has allowed the Syngenta organization to realize benefits in the areas of standardisation of processes and reporting, scalability, speed, enhanced global policy, efficiency, streamlining and visibility. Syngenta has now achieved a single point of truth and HR platform worldwide with ADP providing global, standardized and scalable payroll solutions in 45 countries to 25,000 employees. ADP brought discipline to the HR transformation project that was launched along with the creation of SBS, points out Mark Brinkler. ADP and Syngenta have established a global strategic partnership, which is something we have done with a few providers only. ADP had the global footprint, standardized processes and single platform we were looking for. This partnership has contributed to the development of more integrated ways to work, giving us a competitive advantage. . At least three significant problems or issues that the buyer and provider together overcame G in the course of delivering service and the methods or practices used: Syngenta AG is one of the worlds leading companies in biotechnology with more than 28,000 employees in some 90 countries dedicated to one purpose: bringing plant potential to life. Based in Basel Switzerland, Syngenta was formed in 2000. Since its formation, growth has been enhanced by a number of acquisitions which has led to increased complexity. The existing infrastructure and ways of working led to: significant duplication of effort and cost difficulty in working across business and functional silos difficulty to quickly and fully integrate new companies difficulty in supporting the growing number of business services Addressing these issues was fundamental to future growth. In 2009, Syngenta established the Syngenta Business Services (SBS) to integrate and standardize its transactional services across the organization. In two years it has rolled out its service model across 62 countries. 1,900 SBS people are now delivering business services in

finance, procurement, information systems and human resources all based on common, scalable tools and processes. SBS with its global HR service component is key to enable the Syngenta growth aspirations and the ability to respond with greater agility to changing market and economic conditions. The implementation of SBS was a cultural shift for Syngenta. The company grew by acquisitions and, 10 years after its creation, the group was compelled to consolidate its various businesses to stay ahead of the competition.From an HR perspective the objective was to transition 50+ HR platforms to a plug & play approach. The readiness strategy included a single HR information system and methodologies to integrate new activities seamlessly. The implementation of the SBS organization got us started, says Mark Brinkler, Head of HR Syngenta Business Services. It provided momentum but was only one aspect of the overall HR transformation project we had to complete. Syngenta needed to: Develop standardized processes and platforms utilizing technology Develop scalable solutions through strategic partnerships Develop more integrated ways of working . Develop new capabilities to support our strategy get ready Since October 2010, the Syngenta Business Services Group has implemented: A worldwide HR strategic partner footprint Created a new global service management organization Achieved a single point of truth and HR platform worldwide Full organizational integration Worldwide policies These initiatives have led to benefits in the areas of standardisation of processes and reporting, scalability, speed, enhanced global policy, efficiency, streamlining and visibility. The approaches and/or programs initiated through the relationship and how results were measured: As of today, SBS key achievements include the world wide implementation of ADP GlobalViewand Streamline services. ADP was chosen in 2009 to provide a global, standardized and scalable payroll solution. Three years after the projects kick-off, ADP delivers payroll in 45 countries to 25,000 employees who make up 89% of Syngentas workforce.

When asked what qualities a provider should have to be selected by Syngenta, Mark couldnt be more clear: We need to work with providers who understand that driving change goes beyond just cost. The service they provide has to be aligned with our strategy. The capacity to manage a project from dual perspectives, global and local, is also very important. Last but not least, we need to work with providers that are in it for the long haul, so they have to be committed, keen to learn, innovative and financially stable. How the relationship has contributed to advancing the practice of HR transformation and/or HRO: The relationship between ADP and Syngenta has been the fundamental basis for the execution of a successful payroll transformation project. Very open communication was key during challenging times and together, ADP and Syngenta worked out solutions which fitted into both standard approaches and guaranteed global consistency. The strategic partner program which Syngenta has setup to manage their most important partners is consistent with the governance approach of ADP, so were working towards the same objectives. Syngenta is an important member of the ADP Client Advisory Board and is providing very valid input to ADP which is . beneficial for all our clients.
